Updated 8 February 2017 | by Sophie Spiers

Where can you go in 2017 that won't break the bank?

The Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer by the Post Office monitors eight common tourist items in 44 resorts and cities to see where your holiday money will stretch the furthest.

The items include such everyday things such as a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, sun cream and insect repellent.  Nine of the top 10 cheapest places are in Europe, but number eight may surprise you!

2. Sunny Beach, Bulgaria

3. Costa del Sol, Spain

A very good value destination, although the average price of a meal for two here is more than in the Algarve or Sunny Beach – but this could reflect the very high quality restaurants that can be found here, particularly in the Malaga area.

9. Sliema, Malta

Beer and wine are both cheap here, and it’s really just the average cost of a restaurant meal that pushes this up. Perhaps self-catering is the answer?

10. Corfu, Greece

The closest of the Greek Islands to the UK, Corfu comes in at the number 10 cheapest destination.
