Turkey has been growing in popularity with holidaymakers over recent years, with the Turkish Aegean coast being the most popular destination for couples, families or groups of friends. Many visit the country for its excellent low cost food, scorching sun and beautiful beaches, although there’s still much more that this diverse country has to offer. Whether you enjoy discovering ruins of ancient cities or landscapes of breathtaking natural beauty, Turkey offers it all.
The stunning beaches that this area offers are definitely one of the major attractions, the beautiful turquoise lagoon and perfect white sands at Olu Deniz are a must for all beach lovers. There’s also Calis beach, well-known for its beautiful sunsets, which offers a wide variety of water sports for the whole family.
One thing that makes Turkey so special is its ability to fuse traditional culture with modern attractions. Izmir, the country’s third largest city, offers both with its excellent shops and restaurants as well as archaeological remains dating back to 3000BC and a traditional Turkish bazaar. The yachting port of Bodrum also makes for an excellent day out, whilst its energetic nightlife is an unmissable experience for the young at heart, with rows of intriguing bars, clubs and live music events stretching throughout the city.
If you want to visit somewhere away from the crowds take a trip to the Turkish resort of Alacati, something of a secret to tourists. The small town is popular with Turkish families and devoted windsurfers, so is the perfect place to soak up traditional Turkey. Other attractions of the Turkish Aegean coast are the birth places of Greek and Roman legends Troy and Aphrodite, which make for an interesting day trip. The remains of the ancient city of Troy can be visited at Truva, the site of The Trojan War, whilst Aphrodisias has the Temple of Aphrodite, Greek goddess of Love.
