Malta has plenty of beaches to enjoy, but skip the rest as these 5 are the best.

1. Golden Bay Beach

Golden Bay Beach in Malta

Mellieha is one of the best places to stay in Malta for beaches. Its own is a scenic beach cove offering a broad stretch of golden sands. Golden Bay Beach attracts the crowds in the summer months, but for good reason. You only need to take one look at that caramel-hued sweep...

2. Mellieha Bay

As we were saying, Mellieha is a must-stay for beaches. Another local offering is the eponymous Mellieha Bay, which has been dubbed as the perfect beach for families. The beach here gradually inclines into waters so it stays shallow until fairly far out making it a safe choice for kiddies.

3. Dwejra Bay

Dwejra Bay's rugged good looks are best shown by its dramatic coastal formations. This beautiful small bay is characterised by its natural pools created by rock erosion. The bay was home to Malta's famous Azure Window, but it sadly collapsed after a heavy storm in 2017. Nowadays, tourists are here for the sun and scuba divers come to see a mysterious underwater window known as the Blue Hole.

4. Gnejna Bay

Gnejna Bay is the quieter neighbour of Golden Bay. While it is still a popular sandy beach, its noticeably less crowded beach and crystal clear waters will provide a particularly serene backdrop for sunbathers. Roll out your beach towel on the sands or the flat bedrock nearby for prime sun time.

5. Ramla Bay

Ramla Bay is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Gozo. This crescent-shaped islet is made up of rust coloured sand and waymarked beach walking paths in both directions. Isn't it nice to find places off the beaten track?
