2 bedroom Thirston holiday cottage rental
December 2019

We visited the cottage for a New Year break. My son and his partner joined us on the Monday. The cottage is more than adequate for 4 people. My sister in law and her husband arrived on New Years Eve. The Northumberland Arms were kind enough to allow them to park their motor home in their car park. Lovely cosy cottage with a lot of charm. The welcome pack was exceptional. Great as a base to see Northumberland. Whilst there we visited Holy Island, Alnwick and Druridge Bay Country Park. The Running Fox Cafe on the Felton side of the river, food is amazing as is the Northumberland Arms. We also ate at the Cook & Barker Inn at Newon on the Moore. This was the best restaurant. I would also recommend The Tree House Restaurant at Alnwick Gardens. Will definitely be back. Jackie & Paul Hooks

Had a great week - excellent location with good selection of local stores, bank etc. which was convenient ... along with being a good base for visiting a number of places in Northumberland in all directions. (Coast & inland areas) Quiet with immediate access to riverside walk. Accommodation clean, spacious - very relaxing, equipped with everything you'd need for your stay. Good value, would highly recommend. Thanks

The house was lovely with wonderful views over the Coquet Valley. We received a warm welcome from Cathy the owner and there were some tasty treats in the kitchen for us to enjoy. It was our first visit to the area and we enjoyed it so much we have booked again for next year. Would thoroughly recommend this property.

Travel guide

Holiday cottages in Northumberland

Use your Northumberland holiday cottage as a base to explore the beauty of the 64 miles of coastal path and the vast stretches of uncrowded beaches the county has to offer. Take a boat to the Farne Islands to visit the puffin colonies and on your return to Seahouses and enjoy proper fish and chips on the seafront. Follow in the footsteps of the ancient Romans along the path of Hadrian’s Wall.

Historic Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England – medieval, castellated forts; crumbling ruins; haunted edifices containing 13th century torture chambers, and even Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, otherwise known as Alnwick Castle.

Other sites include the extraordinary country house and 1,000 acres of garden and woodland at Cragside, and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, with its 6th century history. For some city action visit Newcastle with its magnificent architecture, quayside and iconic bridges.
