The best way to explore this beautiful neighbourhood is by renting a boat, while the cool and dry northeasterly wind provides a welcome relief from the midday heat. Renting a bicycle is another great way to get around, with plenty of routes to choose from. In the centre of town discover upmarket shops and boutiques in the main boulevard Carrer Port Salins. For a change of scenery, Aiguamolls de l'empordà wetland reserve is home to over 300 species of bird, with its exotic flora and fauna and local wildlife, from herds of deer to beautiful white horses. Unlike Emuriabrava which is one of the youngest resorts in the Costa Brava, Castello d’Empúries is steeped in history. Basílica de Santa Maria de Castelló d'Empúries is the second largest building in the Costa Brava and a must see for its elaborate Gothic architecture. Learn about one of Spain's most influential painters in Figueres, just 12km away, where Salvador Dalí was born and now lies the Dalí Theatre and Museum. Or why not take a day trip to Girona, about an hour's drive from Empuriabrava. For families, little ones will enjoy learning about the local wildlife at Butterfly Park, or practicing their swing at Minigolf Carmansó, before the adults have a go at Golf Castello.
