Situated in the province of Girona, Blanes is a resort town of true Catalonian beauty. Known as the gateway to the Costa Brava, this unspoiled side of Spain boasts beautiful botanical gardens, stretches of golden sand and an old quarter with authentic tapas restaurants and atmospheric winding streets. A favourite with Catalans, its pristine beaches and coves, relaxed way of life and picturesque landscape that stretches all the way to the French border makes it the perfect destination for a family holiday. As the first town along the Costa Brava, Blanes has charm and character in abundance, from its whitewashed houses to the traditional fishing boats along the harbour.

Stroll along Passeig de Carles Faust and discover the exotic gardens of Marimurtra, attracting over 300,000 visitors each year who come to see the beautiful display of over 4000 species of plant life. Take a trip to the old town with its Gothic architecture and working fishing port. In the evening, sample the catch of the day with a traditional alfresco dinner. Kids will love Blanes for its family-friendly beaches, festivals, water parks and the fabulous world of Gnomo Park in Lloret de Mar, just a 7-minute drive from Blanes. For a change of scenery Barcelona is only an hour away by car, with a scenic drive along the coast, or why not make the most of the sparkling Mediterranean with a scuba diving and snorkeling boat excursion for all the family.

Blanes' coastline with its mountain backdrop, is its main attraction, varying from quiet coves to large stretches of sand perfect for enjoying water sports. Drive towards Lloret de Mar, just before Blanes' exit sign and follow the sign 'Urbanització Cala Sant Francesc' f Sant Francesc, until you reach Sant Francesc with its gentler sloping sands and snack bars. After a dip in the sea, explore San Juan Castle and watchtower at the top of the hill, once used for pirate sightings. From here, take in glorious views across Blanes and the Mediterranean Sea. Blanes' promenade, Passeig de Cortils i Vieta, stretches along each beach, with cycle lanes, plenty of restaurants, shops and bars; there's even a scattering of rides to keep the kids entertained. The surrounding natural landscape is an outdoor playground, perfect for golf, horse riding and scenic bike rides.
