No disappointment for this rental. A bit dated, a little too much carpet especially for allergies, but very clean with 1 person who comes twice a week to clean and change sheets / towels. Home very nice and with land, what we were looking for to eat outside and barbecues.

Villa Costa is a large, modern, open plan villa, with all the facilities you could want. The bedroom are large and have ample wardrobe space ad extra blankets if required. It is located up a hill in the suburbs of Funchal which means necessitates a lengthy, walk, bus or taxi ride into the centre. We walked down but used taxis to get back. The hills are very steep in places and certainly give your calves a workout, (definitely not for the less mobile). The location would not suit everyone as it is quite far from the main tourist areas and restaurants, but we liked that we were away from the hustle and bustle and it was very quiet at night. We didn't need alarm clocks as the owner's cockerel began calling at 6:45 each morning, but you soon get used to it. Speaking of the owners, they really couldn't have been more helpful. They booked taxis for us to meet us at the airport and take us back on our return, and even took us, in their own car, to the Madeira Shoppong centre. We were there for the flower festival in April and she gave us advice on when and where to go for the best views, which was very helpful. All in all, a very nice place to stay and Madeira is a very nice place to visit. i would recommend that you do the island tours as there are so many beautiful things to see. We did the West tour, the East tour, (by jeep) and the Nun's Valley tour - a bit full on, but that's just us.

it is a really lovely villa in a beautiful location among all those banana trees. I only gave 3* for cleanliness because my wife washed all the floors so that we could walk around barefoot, and they looked a whole lot better. there are a few cosmetic blemishes. but you get with any villa. as for communication or lack of maybe a quick visit a couple of days into the first week just to see that we knew where everything was and to ask if there are any questions. But in conclusion it was a lovely place for two heavenly weeks.

Madeira is without a doubt one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Its carpets of forests, menacing mountains and exotic wildlife is a world away from the islands of Menorca and Majorca that we all know and love, yet its dramatic, unexplored landscapes and year-round, warm climate makes it an enviable holiday destination in Portugal. So this made us think. What do we actually know about the spectacular shores of Madeira?
