Couple from High Wycombe , United Kingdom August 2016

The apartment is on the very South of Essaouira, near to several cafés and the Carrefour. The area is relatively new and there was quite a lot of building work going on, but not heavy construction. The area is definitely up and coming. The apartment was lovely, the staff were very helpful and speak great English and French. If you like a good walk, town is not that far, but the little blue taxis are cheap (8 dh) from the main road to Bab Sba (Medina entrance). Plenty of restaurants catering for all budgets, friendly people and amazingly hassle free. The Alizé (wind) provides a welcome relief from the heat, but does occasionally have the ability to move furniture, crockery and glasses. But the apartment provides some shelter on the days when it gets really strong. The beach is perfect for kite surfing or windsurfing, when there's a wind (most days), it has a gentle slope and the waves during our visit were tiny, so safe for family beach fun. And it is a couple of miles long, so finding space would not be an issue. ATMs can be found all over town, but none that local to the apartment. Credit cards are accepted by Carrefour and most cafés and restaurants, but you will need cash for taxis, Medina shopping and the such. Free WiFi is available from the various cafés (you will need to ask for the code when you stop in for coffee) near the apartment, but not in the apartment. There's a TV and DVD player, but no aerial or satellite, there is however a selection of films on DVD. There is a decent stereo, which takes SD cards, USB, Aux (RCA lead needed), tape, CD and radio. We really enjoyed our visit, it was very relaxing. Many thanks!

Couple from Hedge End, United Kingdom July 2015

Great apartment, very comfortable and private. If you like to cook as we do then the kitchen is reasonably well equipped though the cooker is in need of an update. Great to have a daily cleaner too. Overall a great choice.

Family from Worcester, United Kingdom July 2014

We are a family of 5 with chikdren aged 12, 10 and 8 years and were absolutely thrilled to have found such a well presented apartment in easy walking distance of the beach. Lovely roof terrace and extremely helpful manager and cleaner. Couldnt fault anything, am sure we will return.

Meriel from London, United Kingdom April 2013

I stayed at Dar Nicola in April with my 24 yr old daughter. This property is accurately described and did not disappoint. It has been charmingly decorated and felt loved. Said was very helpful and the taxi pickup arranged from Marrakech all went very smoothly. we loved being right in the middle of the old city and all the major features of Essaouira are within a few minutes walk. There are excellent restaurants nearby and helpful commentary from previous occupants in notebooks left in the house. the steep stairs would not be suitable for anyone with walking/climbing difficulties. sadly while we were there a seagull had decided to nest on the roof terrace so we were unable to get to the highest point for the views. nevertheless we had breakfast on the terrace each day. Its a beautiful place and the locals are very friendly. we had good weather but some strong cold winds meant lying on the beach was out of the question. but my daughter did a kite surfing course. all in all Id thoroughly recommend this property and Essaouira.

When tourists think of Morocco, they generally think of Marrakech. But there are so many more exciting holiday destinations in Morocco to consider. Essaouira - with its beautiful fortified walls, fishing harbour and Medina full of winding alleyways - is a coastal town not to be missed. It was designed by a Frenchman, and there is definitely a french feel to the fortress, but it's also quintessentially Moroccan. There are lots of things to do in Essaouira, so move on over Marrakech, you've had your time in the limelight...
