What springs to mind when you think of an unspoiled paradise where you can get away from it all and just let your hair down? As you walk along the tranquil golden beaches of your mind, you may be surprised to find that your vision looks a lot like La Graciosa, 2km off the north coast of Lanzarote. La Graciosa’s untouched landscape, vast, wild beaches and beautiful hiking trails make it a perfect destination for adventure-seekers and holidaymakers alike.
This tiny desert island can only be reached via a 30-minute ferry ride from Orzola port in northern Lanzarote. As a volcanic island, La Graciosa is full of natural riches to discover; pristine mountain coastlines, beaches of gold and white sand and of course, the sparkling Atlantic Ocean in the distance. Getting around La Graciosa can be a bit tricky as there are no real roads and only sandy tracks; barefoot is definitely best when it comes to this island of natural beauty! For your own patch of paradise and for the more adventurous of holidaymakers, you can hire a bike and set off along the winding paths which will take you to the most special corners of the island.
No doubt La Graciosa´s beaches are the island's biggest attraction and the answer to the question what to do here is obvious- just let the sun bathe while you forget about the world! The most popular beach on the island is Las Chonchas, a 20-minute walk from the island's capital, the sleepy little village of Caleta del Sebo. Often deserted and with great views of the rest of the Chinijo Archipelago and Lanzarote, this secluded spot is ideal for anyone seeking sunshine, silence and serenity.
Another beautiful spot is La Cocina cove, about an hour’s walk south from La Caleta. Although there's little shade here, let its sparkling blue waters cool you down instead. Or why not try the quiet and pristine Francesca beach; a sheltered lagoon of white sand dunes and clear blue waters perfect for swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing and diving. The rustic and isolated beach of Pedro Barba resort on the island’s east coast is perfect for recharging your batteries.
