The Region: (Costa Blanca, Alicante)
You will find Gran Alacant in the Costa Blanca region. The ‘White Coast’ as it is translated is distinguished by its’ great white sandy beaches and lively resorts, running along the coast from Denia way up in the north passing through Alicante and continuing south to Torrevieja and beyond… Centrally located, it is an ideal place from which to explore the wide-ranging Valencian region. With Alicante as your closest city, other surrounding well known towns are Benidorm and Calpe to the north, and La Marina and Torrevieja to the south. The nearest local town to Gran Alacant is Santa Pola.
Alicante boasts some of the best beaches on the Costa Blanca. Official sources have declared Spanish beaches as the most environmentally healthy in Europe. With an impressive array of Blue Flag Awards under its belt, it is not difficult to see why Spain and most notably the Costa Blanca have been voted the “best of the best”. Amidst some of the services like parasols for hire, life saving, first aid facilities and toilets, you will also find that the majority of these beaches are wheelchair accessible.
Bang on the centre of the city at the end of Alicante’s famous promenade you will find the ‘playa del Postiguet, or better still - the locals beach resort. Conveniently close to the marina and the centre, it is not surprising that this beach is very popular in spite of the always hectic parking facilities. Just a little north and considered one of Alicante’s best beaches is ‘la playa de San Juan’. Bordered by a long promenade leading to Campello and lined with bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours as far as the eye can see, this vast, soft white sandy beach runs into yet another one of Alicante great beaches - Platja Muchavista.
If snorkeling is your thing, then Cabo de la Huerta is the beach for you! You are not however limited to this one beach. Traveling south away from Alicante in the direction of Gran Alacant is Platja de Babel - an equally good beach to snorkel in and fish from its’ shore.
A mere 5 miles from Alicante centre and one of the closest beaches to Gran Alacant (2min drive) is Los Arenales Del Sol. ‘Our photos don’t do it justice’ is the usual commentary of our guests. This typical Spanish seaside resort is the summer home of locals from nearby inland towns like Elche. Beach shops, bars and restaurants boasting stunning sea views line the recently extended promenade. This lovely beach runs into the gorgeous, dune backed Carabasi beach. And if you consider ‘white bits’ unflattering, then ‘bare all’ right here as part of the beach here is a nudist beach! On the other hand, I guess I can only say – ‘You’ve been warned!’ Further south and approaching the near by town of Santa Pola from the East, you will find further wonderful beaches and all within an easy and flat walk away from the shops, bars and restaurants.
Gran Alacant can offer you the best of both worlds. Those looking for a relaxing holiday lounging by the pool, a bit of tennis for exercise and a quiet meal in the near by restaurant are well catered for. There is however plenty to do for those looking for something a bit more active or fun. The excellent motorway network ensures that near by surrounding areas and attractions are not sorrowfully missed. There is so much to do! A nifty 40 minutes away by car (just outside of Benidorm) is Terra Mitica, a theme park to be enjoyed by both adults and kids alike. In Benidorm, nestling in one of its hills is the superb fun packed water park Aqualandia which is next to Mundomar the sea life centre.
Although nightlife in Gran Alacant is quite low key, it is by no means lifeless. Numerous bars and restaurants (and more on the way) constantly entertain those who are quite happy to enjoy good food and a great bottle of wine. And for variety you may want to try some ‘tapas’ or even dinning at one of Santa Pola’s best restaurants – Moniatos and Polamar. On the other hand, the near by city of Alicante (15 mins) has a bustling night life catering for every taste.
Amidst all the facilities and services in the area you will find supermarkets, banks (with cash dispensers), Video/DVD rental, car rental, petrol station and even a local street market. And although we hope you will not need them, you will find doctors surgery, pharmacy and opticians.
A stones’ throw from Gran Alacant, less than a mile down the hill, is the above mentioned Los Arenales del Sol beach. The beach is never empty. Even in the ‘our’ winter you find people running or walking by the shore. And although the beach is prepared for the Easter Break it is in the height of summer that all types of water sports become available. If your priority is a healthy tan, then a few trips to Los Arenales beach is definitely a must!
Lastly, although worthy of mention is the fact that the short distance to the airport makes Gran Alacant a specifically good holiday base. You can be in your holiday rental accommodation in less than 15 mins from landing! And I hear you say – “Aircraft noise?” – “No problemo – Gran Alacant is not on the flight path!
We have just returned from Gran Vista after a 10 day visit. The trip was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 4 teenagers.
The villa is located in a lovely area and the grounds and pool areas were well looked after. We also made good use of the tennis courts. The accommodation was very well looked after and met our needs perfectly with enough room inside and a nice terrace outside.
We also loved our daily trip to Carabassi beach where there was every option from lounging quietly in the sun to a wide range of water sport activity. The walk to the beach was a 20 minute stroll down quite a steep hill, no problem for us but if you had small children you might want to take the road train that went past us every day.
Communication from the owners was very good and helpful throughout. Highly recommended

5 adults and two 15 month toddlers stayed here for 2 weeks in September and we had a great time. The villa is very well located in the complex halfway between the pool (1 minute walk) and the main entrance (1 minute walk). There is a well stocked shop 30 second walk from the villa and several small supermarkets 5 minute walk including a British supermarket where we purchased fresh milk for our babies as most milk in Spain is UHT. The villa is child safe (after we moved a few ornaments out of reach) including a stairgate, high chair and cot. All floors and walls are tiled so spills and damage is not possible. The beach is possible to walk down to but is very steep and I wouldnt recommend the walk back, so a car would be useful and is also necessary to visit the big supermarkets, 5 minute drive. Alicante is a 20 minute drive and I would recommend the restaurants along the esplanade as being both good and value for money. Maria, the owner, is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble, so just ask if you need anything. We would definitely return.

Firstly, Maria the owner is brilliant. I would recommend booking this property on that fact alone! So helpful and extremely friendly - nothing is too much trouble. The welcome pack touch in the kitchen was much appreciated.
The property lived up to expectations - very spacious. Sofas were comfortable and plenty of space to lounge around. Well stocked kitchen with utensils, etc. Free wifi and use of Internet was an unexpected bonus as were flat screen tvs in lounge and two main bedrooms! Just a note for the Brits who are used to American style mattresses the beds are typically hard! The 2 main bedrooms are spacious - the bunk bed room is small but an adult 53 and a very tall 15 yr old slept in here with no problems (in fact these mattresses are softer than the rest!).
The property is situated in a lovely area - very short walk to the pools and shop/cafe where hot bread can be purchased each morning. The grounds are beautiful - well tended and great to relax in. In fact the whole complex is beautiful.
Gran Alacant is just 10 mins away from the airport but its not on the flight path so no aircraft noise. Its so easy to get to places to visit from this base.
Would we return to this property - absolutely! I have no hesitation in recommending this to family and friends.

We enjoyed our stay at the nice property in Alicante Spain. The property was very well furnished with everything you may need during a vacation. The special welcome start package with fruit, coffee, tea, buscuits and breakfast cereal was very nice and made us feel welcome.
At this particular apartment the outdoor area was not as nice as the neighbours, and I would suggest the owners to upgrade an area at the back with tiles etc. to make it more nice to stay outside for barbecue etc.
The owners and Marie was very service minded and helpful. It was 10 minutes to walk to the beach, but it was steep slope to follow and a bit of a struggle to walk back from the beach. We found hiring a car to be useful in this area.

We needed a break and a little sun, so we went to Spain! Even after reading their great reviews, we had reservations... you never know... but I must say we were all pleasantly surprised! We were all very happy to find such well equipped home being used as a rental property - computer, wifi connection, plenty of english speaking channels, BBC, ITV etc, a home from home! The property location within the complex has no direct sea views (but cant fault the current garden views, trees and green lawn!) although the views from the complex grounds are absolutely breathtaking! We explored the nearby Spanish mountain villages of Algar, Guadalest... and the lovely sandy beaches in front of the complex. In the evenings we ate out in the terrace and relaxed. We cant wait to go back!
