Villa overview

Shell Villa is tucked away inside Turtle Bay on the south coast of Antigua. Enjoy utter privacy and quiet as you sit on its seafront deck and gaze at the spectacular sunsets over gently smoking Montserrat. Surrounded by stunning vistas of ocean and the gentle slopes surrounding Rendezvous Bay, not a single building mars the view - a very private piece of paradise.

Guests will be met at the airport by Valentino, who will drive you to the Villa, or guide you if you hire a car. The property has four double bedrooms, all with air conditioning and ensuite bathrooms. Beds can be made up as king size or full-size twins as preferred. The fifth bedroom has full size bunk beds. Shell Villa has a large kitchen with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and a spacious living/dining area with free high-speed internet. Shell Cottage has a living room with porch and a small kitchenette with half bath. Shell Villa is COVID approved by the Government

It has weekly garden, pool and maid service. The pool and barbeque area and the gardens are planted with gorgeous bougainvillea, hibiscus, and palms. Self sustaining and environmentally friendly, Shell Villa has solar panels with a backup generator and is now connected to mains electricity. Voltage is US style 110/60 cycles. Additionally, its large water cistern enables you to enjoy pure rainwater for drinking, showering etc.

The Villa and the Cottage feature original art works by Jenny Freestone, co-owner with her husband. Jenny is a well-known printmaker whose work is exhibited in a number of art collections in the US, including the Library of Congress.

The gentle lap of waves on the shore lulls you to sleep, and greets you again as you wake to that wonderful Caribbean morning light. A short stroll along Turtle Bay there is a sandy beach with sea shells aplenty.

From 2022 (when it is completed) Shell Cottage will also be available to rent with Shell Villa – it is not rented separately. It has two bedrooms on the second floor with outstanding views across Turtle Bay to Rendezvous. The master bedroom has ensuite access and the second bedroom is a bunk room with two full size single bunks and shared access to the bathroom. On the ground floor there is an airy living room with open porch and sun deck as well as WC and kitchenette with fridge/freezer, microwave and toaster. It is a hop and a skip to the pool and sun deck of the main villa which has a full size well-equipped, chef grade kitchen and dining capacity for 10. The use of Shell Cottage will not be available to parties of six or less without the payment of $150 per night supplement (contact the owners direct)

The Neighbourhood
While the time you spend at the villa ensures quiet seclusion, there is plenty to do in the nearby environment. Falmouth Harbour and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Nelsons Dockyard in English Harbour are a five-minute drive from the villa. They are visited by some of the most fabulous yachts in the world - catch them with binoculars as they majestically sail across the ocean view from Shell Villa. The constant flow of private yachts, their crew and guests, ensure a lively social scene and a plentiful supply of excellent restaurants, cafes and bars in these harbours.

For those who are athletic, more adventurous and energetic, there are some spectacular, well-marked walks along the coast to totally deserted beaches, and wonderful views from some of the historic ruins around English Harbour and Shirley Heights. There are also tennis and squash courts nearby.

There is a wonderful continental bakery, good wine/liquor store and local grocery store within a 5-minute drive from the villa. There is an ATM machine, bank and Post Office in Nelson's Dockyard.

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda charges 14% sales tax on Villa rentals and since Jan 2022 has imposed a head tax of $5 per person per night for all guests over 6 years old.

Beautifully situated with great privacy and location tho' I wish I had taken on board the 4wd advice as the house is 4-5 mins from the main road and parts of the road very bad and the car we had was not entirely suitable! Everything prepared for our arrival with fresh flowers and a starter kit in the fridge. Although we arrived late due to flight...

A beautiful very private quiet villa at the water's edge on a rocky shore just round the corner from Falmouth and English Harbour where there are amazing superyachts and superb restaurants. It feels almost as though you are on a superyacht when you are in the villa (minus the motion of course). The bedrooms are very comfortable and the villa's...

We lived in Antigua during the 1980s and loved it. We have been returning regularly since then and have been looking at property, In 2002 we fell in love with Shell Villa at first sight. It is right on the ocean, with unbelievable views over the undeveloped south of Antigua and across to the neighbouring island of Montserrat - home to an active volcano some 12 miles away. We are far enough away to never feel ill effects but close enough to enjoy the wonderful sunsets it generates. Shell Villa is set in a third of an acre and the garden is one of our joys - allowing us to grow palms and other tropical plants. In our absence the house is looked after by an English couple - Clare and Nathan - who live locally and a team of wonderful helpers - Daphne our Dominican maid and 'Juicy' our Antiguan gardener - sometime winner of Antigua farmer of the year. Shell Villa is literally on the ocean. In 2006 we built a deck which takes us right to the high water line of Turtle Bay - wonderful for sunbathing and also for sipping cocktails and watching the sun set, as well as star gazing after dark. We took advantage of the pandemic to upgrade the kitchen and refurbish the pool. We also built a two storey cottage in the garden to provide two extra bedrooms and a full bathroom. The cottage has its own kitchenette and covered porch. It is available for parties of more than 6 or for those who pay a $150 per nigh summplment. The sound of the waves is always there - soothing and relaxing. They rock you to sleep at night and wake you each morning to a wonderful new day.
