At the gateway to the rolling landscapes of the Luberon, Mas Cyprès captures the enduring character of Provence.
At the gateway to the rolling landscapes of the Luberon, Mas Cyprès captures the enduring character of Provence. This beautifully restored 18th century stone mas lies within one hectare of landscaped grounds, where cypress trees, sculpted hedges and Mediterranean planting frame far reaching views. Just a short drive from Gordes, it offers families and groups an atmospheric base for discovering one of southern France’s most celebrated regions.
Inside, generous proportions meet calm, considered interiors. Two reception rooms flow into one another, their exposed beams, tiled floors and stone details recalling the heritage of the house, while comfortable furnishings create spaces made for gathering. French doors and large windows draw in the Provençal light and lead naturally towards the terraces and gardens. A separate TV lounge offers a quieter retreat, while the dining area and fully equipped kitchen make shared meals effortless. Seven air conditioned bedrooms accommodate up to 14 guests, including a spacious master bedroom and a combination of double and twin rooms, many with their own shower rooms.
Life at Mas Cyprès is perhaps best enjoyed outdoors. Long lunches can unfold beneath the shade of the south facing terrace before afternoons beside the heated swimming pool and stone pool house. The gardens provide plenty of room to spread out, while a private tennis court hidden discreetly behind tall hedges invites friendly matches. A cypress lined allée leading towards a stone water feature adds another distinctive touch to these beautifully maintained grounds.
The location places the treasures of the Luberon within easy reach. Coustellet, 3.5km away, offers supermarkets and a popular Sunday farmers’ market, whilst the iconic hilltop village of Gordes is around a 10 minute drive away. Ménerbes, Bonnieux and ochre coloured Roussillon make rewarding excursions, alongside vineyards, walking trails and cycling routes. L'Isle sur la Sorgue, famed for its waterways and antiques, is only 14km away, with Avignon and Saint-Rémy tempting guests further afield.
For leisurely days with family and friends, Mas Cyprès offers space, Provençal character and gardens designed to be enjoyed from morning until evening.
Mas Cyprès enjoys an idyllic setting in the Luberon region of France, surrounded by the quintessential landscapes of Provence and just a 10-minute drive from the iconic village of Gordes.
Despite its rural atmosphere, everyday essentials are conveniently close by in Coustellet (3.5km), with supermarkets and shops alongside its popular Sunday morning farmers’ market, a wonderful place to browse seasonal produce and Provençal specialities. Further hypermarkets and useful amenities can be found in and around Cavaillon (12km).
Coustellet is also home to the Musée de la Lavande Luberon, devoted to Provence’s emblematic fine lavender and its traditional production, while the Musée de l'Huile d'Olive offers another insight into one of the region’s celebrated products; both are within a 5 to 10-minute drive.
Meanwhile, the hilltop village of Gordes makes an enchanting outing. Wander through the historic centre to discover inviting cafés terraces and galleries tucked amongst the old stone buildings. On Tuesday mornings, the village comes alive for its weekly Provençal market, when stalls fill the streets and squares with local produce, cheeses, charcuterie, crafts, lavender and other regional specialities. Take time to admire the imposing Renaissance château at the heart of the village and pause at one of the viewpoints for sweeping vistas across the surrounding landscape.
More captivating villages await close by. Explore the historic streets of Ménerbes (6km), continue to Bonnieux (14km), dramatically positioned above the surrounding countryside, or admire the ochre-hued beauty of Roussillon (16km). Between these villages, the Luberon countryside invites days spent hiking and cycling through beautiful rural scenery or discovering local vineyards and wines.
Another Provençal highlight is L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (14km), renowned for its waterways, culture, antiques and Sunday morning brocante. Venture west to the Alpilles for Eygalières (27km), a gorgeous stone village backed by limestone hills, vineyards and olive groves, or lively Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (32km).
For a longer day out, the historic streets and remarkable heritage of Avignon are within reach, while Aix-en-Provence offers elegant boulevards, fountains and a vibrant Provençal atmosphere – rewarding additions to a stay immersed in the landscapes and villages of southern France.
