On the southern slopes of Les Alpilles, Mas de Mauron is a sensitively restored 18th-century farmhouse where Provençal heritage meets touches of contemporary comfort. With its thick stone, generous living spaces and terraces shaded by a century-old vine, this characterful home offers a great setting for guests seeking an authentic taste of Provence.
Lovingly renovated to preserve its original character, the farmhouse retains the impressive proportions of its former barns and sheepfolds, alongside beautiful Fontvieille stonework. Inside, up to 10 guests are accommodated across two separate parts of the house, each with its own entrance.
The main house features a good-sized living room alongside an atmospheric vaulted lounge, offering a cool retreat in summer and a welcoming fireside setting in winter. A contemporary Italian kitchen with marble worktops and a central island provides a stylish space for preparing meals. Upstairs, discover three air-conditioned en suite doubles, including a spacious master bedroom.
There are two further bedrooms in the second part of the house, simpler in style but just as charming, alongside a pretty little kitchen. Thoughtful touches can be found across the two parts of the dwelling, from quality bedding to modern bathrooms, ensuring a restful stay for all.
Outside, the Provençal lifestyle takes centre stage. The gardens are filled with mature trees, including a grand plane tree, cypresses, mulberry, chestnut, walnut and oak trees. Gather beneath the ancient vine for long lunches beside the gentle sound of the fountain, or enjoy the saltwater swimming pool with its sun loungers, completing this picturesque outdoor setting.
Just 2km from Maussane-les-Alpilles, Mas de Mauron is perfectly placed for discovering Provence. Browse the village's Thursday market, explore the medieval streets of Les Baux-de-Provence or follow scenic trails through the limestone hills. Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Arles and Avignon also make rewarding excursions.
Whether spending days beside the pool or enjoying an extended stay immersed in village life, Mas de Mauron offers the comfort and unmistakable character of a traditional Provençal home.
In the heart of Les Alpilles, Mas de Mauron enjoys a superb setting in the heart of Provence, where olive groves, limestone hills and picturesque villages create a timeless backdrop. This enchanting corner of southern France is celebrated for its natural beauty, rich heritage and irresistible Provençal way of life, with bustling markets, excellent restaurants and historic treasures waiting to be discovered.
The house is located just off the main road leading to Maussane-les-Alpilles (2km), a charming village offering an authentic taste of Provence, with its pretty square, traditional cafés, restaurants and shops selling local specialities, including the region’s renowned olive oil. Don’t miss the delightful market on a Thursday morning.
Neighbouring Paradou (4km) is another nearby gem, with opportunities to hire bicycles and explore the surrounding countryside at a leisurely pace. Be sure to visit Le Bistrot du Paradou, a much-loved local institution admired by celebrity chef Rick Stein for its traditional Provençal cooking.
One of the area's most spectacular destinations is Les Baux-de-Provence (6.5km), officially recognised as one of France’s Plus Beaux Villages. Perched dramatically on a rocky outcrop, this medieval village enchants visitors with its cobbled lanes, ancient château ruins and breathtaking views across Les Alpilles. The surrounding landscapes are equally enticing, with scenic walking and cycling routes winding through olive groves, pine forests and rugged limestone scenery.
A little further afield, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (11.5km) is a traditional town known for its lively markets and artistic heritage. Follow in the footsteps of Vincent van Gogh, who painted some of his most celebrated works here, or discover the fascinating Roman remains at nearby Glanum.
For memorable day trips, explore Arles (20km), renowned for its magnificent Roman amphitheatre and as a gateway to the wild landscapes of the Camargue. The historic city of Avignon (31km) beckons with its magnificent Palais des Papes, whilst the beautiful hilltop villages of the Luberon, including Gordes and Ménerbes, are both around an hour away by car, offering yet more opportunities to discover Provence at its most enchanting.
