So quintessentially Provençal and only 3km from Saint-Rémy, Villa Olivier is a beautiful 6-bedroom home set in the most wonderful gardens with olive trees, fountains and roses alongside glorious views of Les Alpilles landscapes.
A true haven of calmness, this characterful stone villa masterfully combines rustic charm with contemporary design – six double bedrooms with artwork and splashes of vibrant colour can be found alongside welcoming living spaces, traditional furnishings and a superb semi-professional kitchen. Added features include air-conditioning throughout, home-cinema, a Sonos music system as well as a rather elegant Steinway piano. Furthermore, there are stunning vistas to be enjoyed from two of the upper bedrooms with their balcony and terrace.
The gardens are so incredibly picturesque with trailing roses by the covered dining terrace, cypress trees dotted across the grounds alongside fruit trees, summer lavender, ancient planes and endless olive trees – all the sights and aromas of Provence. There’s the idyllic fishpond, the grand amphitheatre and the Provençal fountain whilst the gorgeous swimming pool is surrounded by a spacious terrace and pretty stone walls. Discover tranquil benches, a bountiful vegetable garden and picture-perfect spots just right for a morning coffee or evening aperitif.
All of this, yet Saint-Rémy is only 3km away, one of the region’s most iconic towns and where Van Gogh once painted ‘Starry Night’. Artists still flock to Saint-Rémy’s studios, art galleries and makers markets, especially in the summer months, whilst food-lovers will appreciate many inviting restaurants and the atmospheric Wednesday morning market.
When not hiking through the undulating landscapes of Les Alpilles Natural Park, with trails starting close to the villa, be amazed by the charm of Les Baux-de-Provence, enjoy the extra virgin olive oil of Maussane-les-Alpilles or look out for discreet celebrities in Eygalières, all within a 15-minute drive.
The perched villages and vineyards of the Luberon also await, as do the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon, the Roman remains of Nîmes and the historic gems of Arles, the gateway to the mesmerising Camargue. In the Bouches-du-Rhone department of Provence, Villa Olivier is surrounded by landscapes of Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park and is only 3km from the market town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
Soak up the charm of Saint-Rémy as you explore its narrow lanes, coming across artist studios, galleries, pretty shops and inviting restaurants. Artists gather on summer Sunday mornings on Route des Artistes whilst throughout the year you can follow the Van Gogh trail and learn about the inspiration behind many of the artist’s most famous paintings. Saint-Rémy’s bustling market on a Wednesday morning attracts visitors from across the region with its many stalls showcasing the best local produce, artisan crafts and other items so typical of Provence.
One of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Les Baux-de-Provence, is under a 20-minute drive away whilst delightful Maussane-les-Alpilles (12km) is such a picturesque spot for lunch in one of its restaurants whether you’re seeking a charming bistro or Michelin starred establishment. Picture-perfect Eygalières (10km) is where a small handful of A-list celebrities have holiday homes or cross over to the Luberon region for idyllic perched villages such as Bonnieux, Lacoste and Ménerbes, each around a 45-minute drive away.
Marked hiking trails can be found across this area with some routes passing close to the villa, whilst horse-riding, mountain biking, cycling and rock-climbing are also popular pursuits across Les Alpilles, the Luberon and beyond.
Heading into the Vaucluse department, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue hosts a wonderful market on a Sunday morning including its famous brocante, whilst any time of the week it’s a delightful place for a spot of lunch by the riverside. The most adventurous of guests can hire canoes or kayaks in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse to sail along the Sorgue or make the most of many beautiful walks around the much-loved town.
The small but lively city of Avignon (23km) is close enough for a fine day out with its atmospheric markets and UNESCO World Heritage site whilst historic Nîmes (48km) is also worth a visit to see its Roman remains and beautiful gardens. Then there’s Van Gogh’s beloved Arles (30km) and the enchanting landscapes of the Camargue with wild horses, pink flamingos and remote nature.Villa Interiors (450m2)
