Le Grand Platane

Le Grand Platane is a charming villa in Provence offering a relaxing escape for up to 10 guests, ideally located close to the traditional town of Châteaurenard and just a short drive from the historic heart of Avignon. Sleeping up to 10 guests, this 3-bedroom villa balances traditional charm with modern comforts. The ground floor hosts a fully-equipped kitchen with a dining area, ideal for family meals and gatherings, while the expansive living room offers ample space for relaxation.

On the upper floor, guests will find a well-appointed bathroom with a bathtub, a separate WC, and a master bedroom with its own shower room. Two further bedrooms, each furnished with a queen-size bed and a mezzanine level with a standard double bed, provide versatile accommodation for families with older children or groups of friends.

Outside, generous grounds offer plenty of seating with a garden lounge and sun loungers alongside the gorgeous swimming pool that can be heated on request (for a supplement). Enjoy sunny afternoons beneath the shade of the huge plane tree followed by a competitive game on the 22m-long boules court.  

Pass farmland and countryside en route to the Provençal town of Châteaurenard, only 3km by car, with its restaurants, good-sized supermarkets and wonderful weekly market. Heading north instead, the historic city of Avignon awaits just 8km away. Known for its rich history and stunning architecture, visit the UNESCO-listed Palais des Papes and the Pont Saint-Bénézet.

Other highlights of the region include artistic Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the vineyards of the Rhone valley, and the Roman sites of Nimes and Le Pont du Gard, not to mention the mesmerising landscapes of the Luberon and Les Alpilles.

Whether you're seeking relaxation by the pool or adventure in the surrounding Provençal countryside, Le Grand Platane offers an authentic experience for your summer holiday in southern France. Le Grand Platane is situated in typical countryside a short drive from the traditional Provençal town of Châteaurenard. Although rural, you are not too remote with a handful of other houses nearby. Pass farmland and fields, then cross the Durance River before arriving in Avignon, only 8km by car. 

The picturesque town of Châteaurenard (3km) is steeped in history, with its medieval castle ruins standing proudly atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Stroll through the lively weekly market, where fragrant lavender, sun-ripened olives, and artisanal cheeses invite you to indulge in the flavours of the region. The town also boasts several supermarkets to stock up on delicious produce.

A short drive brings you to Avignon (8km), the City of Popes, where the magnificent Palais des Papes dominates the skyline. Wander along the historic bridge of Saint-Bénézet, immortalised in the beloved French song, or lose yourself in the city’s charming streets filled with boutique shops, vibrant markets, excellent restaurants and atmospheric café terraces.

Wine lovers will relish the opportunity to visit the renowned vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape (23km) and the wider Rhône Valley. Savour world-class vintages in historic cellars and enjoy private tastings where the region’s esteemed winemakers share their passion and expertise.

To the south lies Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (15km), a quintessentially Provençal town famed for its links to Vincent van Gogh, art galleries and Wednesday morning market. Further afield, the rugged beauty of Les Alpilles beckons, offering scenic hiking trails and breathtaking views over cypress-studded hills and olive groves.

For a journey through time, head west to the awe-inspiring Pont du Gard (33km), a UNESCO-listed Roman aqueduct that stands as a testament to ancient engineering. Continue to Nîmes, a city famed for its remarkably well-preserved Roman amphitheatre, elegant squares, and vibrant cultural scene.

Security deposit
€2,500 charged to client's credit card as a pre-authorisation at least 2 weeks prior to arrival and refunded two weeks after departure, subject to full inspection.

End of stay cleaning
Extra €150, payable locally. Guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.

Insurance
Guests are required to be in possession of a valid insurance policy, which covers them for cancellations, loss of personal belongings, personal liability and any accidental damage caused during their stay.

Yes, extra €250 per week payable locally. Please note that like all heated pools, pool heating and water temperature are reliant on weather and outside temperatures.
