Sept Fonts priory with private pool and lakes, set on 3 acres, sleeps up to 10, south west France
Sept Fonts is a magical place, where you can come and cut off from the world. It is a 3 acre site, with lakes and vestiges of an ancient priory that dates back to the 1600’s.
You can sit by the lakes and watch the kingfishers and Copyu, take a walk or bike ride in the surrounding countryside, swim in the huge pool, chill in the jacuzzi, create a family barbecue and much more. The place is steeped in history – King Louis 13th slept here – there is a stone plaque to prove it!
The house has large rooms with hand built furniture, 4 bedrooms, two with ensuite bathrooms, and plenty of outside places for eating and chilling. The pool area with the 6 x 12 meter pool, raised deck and jacuzzi is our favourite place to be on hot summer days where we can have temperatures up to 30, or even 40 degrees. (It is rare for it to stay this hot for weeks though, mostly it will be in the comfortable mid to high 20’s range).
An easy walk, bike ride or drive brings you the 2km to Aulnay, a market town set on the Santiago de Compostela route, which has regular markets, festivals, shops, bars and restaurants. A 20 minutes drive will bring you to the spa town of Saint Jean D’Angely which is a great place to visit with a lake, river and many historic buildings. You can sample the drink Cognac in the town of Cognac 40 minutes away. Just over an hour and you can spend the day on one of the many stunning golden Charente Maritime beaches or explore La Rochelle. There’s so much to do in this area and as it’s the second sunniest area after the Mediterranean, you are nearly guaranteed to be able to do it in the sunshine.
