Live like the lord of the manor at this historic village home deep in the alluring Luberon region of Provence.
Dating back to the early 1700s, with some parts even older, it offers guests charm and authenticity with its wonderfully restored interiors. Previously owned by a lord when it was the most important house in the village, admire the manoir’s original doors, grand fireplaces, 18th century grain jugs and most of all a wonderful terrace with panoramic views of the village rooftops and Provençal countryside beyond.
Kick back in the top-floor lounge with lovely views, prepare good food to enjoy with family or friends in one of the two well-equipped kitchens and dine in style in the grand dining room with its vaulted ceiling and exposed stone walls. The pretty balcony is another gorgeous spot for al-fresco meals under the vine-covered shade whilst stairs lead down to a perfect pool for warm summer days.
Each of the five bedrooms is unique, scattered across three levels from the mid-floor double with its en suite bathroom featuring a claw-foot bath to the top-floor bedroom with a feature 17th century copper bath and an original wooden toilet in its en suite! There are also three pretty singles, allowing up to 7 guests to experience this unique and historic home.
It’s wonderful to be able to stroll around the picturesque hilltop village with its 12th century church, boulangerie, terrace café-restaurant and grocery store. Typically Provençal in style, admire its old stone houses, attractive doorways and pretty little gardens as you wander through its lanes. Also look out for summer festivities and cultural events taking place in the little village.
Explore further afield within the southern Luberon to villages such as La Tour-d'Aigues, Ansouis and Cucuron or discover why Lourmarin, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ was so loved by Albert Camus. Pick up all sorts of Provençal delights at local village markets, visit nearby vineyards and cycle or hike through the undulating landscapes of this glorious region.
Then there’s the idyllic perched villages to the north such as Bonnieux, Gordes and Roussillon or drive south to Cezanne’s beloved Aix-en-Provence with its museums, parks, street-cafes and overall charming atmosphere. That’s if you can leave the beautiful and authentic surroundings of your grand village home.
