This region, in southwestern France, is known for its rich cultural and natural heritage, with its towns, its buildings, its castles and spectacular landscapes. These will be a constant source of inspiration during your stay in the region. This region full of character has increased its reputation thanks to its vineyards and gastronomy. Due to its special geographical position, it enjoys an oceanic climate. The climate is mild with plenty of sunshine.

The Dordogne:
With the impressive fortified villages, old castles, charming villages and prehistoric caves, the Dordogne has managed to preserve its heritage well! Here you are also in a region where gastronomy and art of living are central and where wine, foie gras and regional products have a special place!

Bordeaux:
A visit to the city of Bordeaux is of course also very worthwhile. In less than an hour you are in the middle of this beautiful city. Bordeaux is known for its wine museum (Cité du Vin), and its beautiful renovated center with nice shops and restaurants. Bordeaux is easily accessible both by car and by train.

Gastronomy:
The flavors of our region delight the taste buds of all ages! Enjoy its quality products; truffles, oysters, mussels, mushrooms, plums… or the foie gras, the most famous local specialty of the region.
Try a delicious cassoulet, duck confit, almond biscuits and/or the cannelés de Bordeaux. You will always remember these dishes with unique flavors.

Oenology:
Come and discover the secrets of the vineyard and visit the wine during tasting at the numerous wine estates. The famous wine chateaus of St. Emilion and Pomerol are also a stone's throw away.

SAS le Mathelin
We are Bas and Marieke van Osta. In 2004 we moved with our then still young family from the Netherlands to France. In the meantime our children have left the nest and we decided to sell the campsite after 17 years of being the campsite owner. This transfer took place in September 2021, so that we could ‘push’ ourselves on our next adventure. After we settled in our new house in Lamothe-Montravel in the Dordogne we had the opportunity to buy the adjacent gites from our new neighbors. We obviously didn’t want to let this opportunity pass. We are really looking forward to this new challenge and look forward to welcoming you in this beautiful and unique place in France. You can book our Gîtes all year long!
