The villa is impressive at first glance, with a classic white exterior and huge floor-to-ceiling glass doors that flood the home with light.
The villa is spread across one level, making it a good choice for families with young children or those with limited mobility. There is a contemporary style open-concept living space consisting of a lounge area, dining space and a kitchen, featuring cosy sofas and high-end soft furnishings and decor, wall-mounted flatscreen TV, and a solidly crafted dining table - perfect for entertaining and relaxing. The kitchen is beautifully appointed and well-equipped, with ample food preparation space, top-quality appliances, and all of the utensils and cookware you’ll need to cater for you and your guests during your stay.
Casa Perigao carries this clean, contemporary look through into the bedrooms; two doubles and a twin, all of which feature a fresh, light decor with pops of colour provided by the quality soft furnishings. Wherever you are in the villa, you’ll be able to enjoy breathtaking views of the island and the ocean beyond, and the move from indoor to outdoor living is seamless, with guests being able to step straight out onto the terrace from both the bedrooms and the common areas.
Outside, guests can enjoy a stunning private infinity pool, as well as a furnished outdoor lounge area - the perfect spot for enjoying a morning cuppa or relaxing with a good book. Preparing alfresco meals during your stay will be a breeze, thanks to an outdoor kitchen/dining area and built-in barbecue, all of which lend themselves perfectly to raising a glass and enjoying good food and good company on this beautiful island.
Casa Perigao is located in a quiet neighbourhood in the idyllic seaside town of Calheta, one of the island’s most historic locations. Famous for its banana and sugar cane plantations and its vineyards, as well as for having one of the only golden sandy beaches on the island - Calheta is a go-to place for tourists. One of the town’s most popular attractions is its modern marina - where you’ll find some wonderful seafood eateries - and is also a hotspot for those who love hiking, biking, surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, scuba diving and paragliding. Calheta is one of the most fantastic spots on the island for whale and dolphin-spotting, and you’ll find plenty of places offering whale-watching tours, fishing tours and boat trips along the marina.Contemporary art lovers will enjoy a visit to the town’s Mudas Museum - and even those who aren’t will enjoy the views from the museum’s high cliff-top location. Here you’ll find a collection of contemporary Portuguese art dating from the 1960s to the present, although it’s worth knowing before you make the trip that the museum is only open Tuesday to Sunday. Another small yet interesting museum that is well worth a visit when you visit Calheta is the Sugar Cane Mill and museum - especially as entry is free! The museum houses machinery that was once used to process sugar cane, as well as a working mill which is still used to produce sugar cane honey today. Once you’ve taken in some of the island’s history at this fascinating attraction, be sure to visit the museum’s cafe, where you can try what claims to be the best honey cake in Madeira.
Those who appreciate fine architecture will enjoy visiting the town’s parish church. Dating back to 1430, this beautiful structure is most notable for the richly-decorated wooden knot-work ceiling above the altar and the 16th-century ebony and silver tabernacle, which was donated by King Manuel I.
Once you’ve had your fill of beaches and sightseeing, head to one of the town’s unique bars or cafes, which include Pukiki Bar, the very instagrammable Sem Idade Cafe - famous for its rooftop pool, and Maktub Pub, which features a relaxed atmosphere, well-priced and delicious cocktails, and a beautiful sunset view.
