Set in a valley with direct views to the river and the local mountains this cabin is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the true Norway. The cabin is situated on a flat rock plateau on the edge of the heather clad pine forest. A short 50 metres walk takes you down to the crystal clear waters of the river. Where you can fish for trout, take a boat trip or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the Norwegian Countryside.

This log cabin in Norway is ideally located within a reasonably short drive from Oslo Torp (Ryanair). There is a large lounge and kitchen with open fire and wood stove. TV with UK Satellite Channels. There are four bedrooms sleeping a total of 9 people. Three of the bedrooms have twin beds that can be put together to form double beds. The fourth bedroom has a “family bed” consisting of a bunk bed with a double under and a single over.

One of the main features of this property is the wonderful and secluded sandy beach with 700 metres of the cabin. The river is closer just 20 meters from the cabin... The beach has a volley ball net... and is ideal for swimming.

The cabin is with 60 metres on one other cabin... but this is only used occasionally by the owners.. so the chances are you will be alone.. The area has walks... and great fishing possibilities. Trout and perch being the main fish caught.

Staying at Norwegian Wood Cabin is a chance to re charge your batteries... Reflect on the things that really matter in life.. and spend quality time with family and friends.

The views to Storefjell (Large Mountain) are amazing at sunrise when the sun changes the colour of the mountain to various shades of purple green and brown. Rising up to about 1000 metres the local glacier carved mountains are not the Alps but have a charm of their own. Locals believe the mountain range is in the shape of a sleeping giant troll…

The cabin is situated on the edge of a pine forest approximately 150 metres from the road. The pine forest is rich in wildlife including Moose (elk), Red Deer, Roe Deer, Red Squirrels, Artic Hares, Badgers and Foxes… There is the occasional wolf in the area, in fact as this is being written August 2007 there is a warning notice about wolves to local sheep farmers. Beavers inhabit the local rivers and evidence of their activity can be seen in the whole area. The bird life also is also in abundance with Black Wood Peckers and many different birds of prey, including golden eagles.

In the right season there is an abundance of berries and mushrooms including blue berries, cranberries and cloud berries (an arctic delicacy).

There are many walks from the cabin. You can walk for as long and where you wish because of Norway’s relaxed “Right to Roam Laws”… The Norwegians believe that the countryside is for the people and “trespassing” is almost unheard of… So walk where you please… no one will bother you. Ordinance survey maps of the area are supplied in the cabin and we have a number of suggested walks.

Ski Centres are withi reach...
There are two alpine skiing centres are with a short drive...

Vradal is... apprx 80 kms away....

We spent two weeks. We found exactly what we were expecting: A very quiet place where you could hear only the sounds of nature. We never saw other people around the house and on the beach a 15 minute walk. The kitchen has many appliances that can cook as if we were in our own home. In short, a perfect place to be in contact with nature, without human presence. A dream home and a dream landscape. Thank you very much Tony.

Lovely cabin in the woods. Warm, comfortable and spacious. We spent a perfect Christmas in this winter wonderland. Excellent communication with Tony. Thank you for this great holiday.

A cabin in a wonderful spot. The family had a wonderful time, as did I, & Tony was extremely helpful to the point of helping us get car hire when all looked lost. It is a beautiful country and I promise you, Norwegian Wood is missed and I waited sometime to ensure a fair and balanced review. The private beach is stunning and the river at the bottom of the property was great fun, how much fun can children have with a hammock, Ill tell you, PLENTY! A great introduction to Norway, unforgettable!

We have an amazing time at the cabin. Tony and Jon were really helpful. The place was beautiful, the hot tub great fun, the view fantastic. The evenings were filled with food, chat, dvds and the great log fire. We walked through the forests, up the mountain in the snow and to the beach, all of which were great. The directions were spot on, 2 of the group went skiing and we all took a trip to Oslo. I would recommend this place to everyone.

We all had a fantastic time at Norwegian Wood. It was a perfect holiday, just what we were looking for. Beautiful setting, large, comfortable lodge and about 4ft of snow! The nearest town of Amli ( about 20 kilometers ) has a small supermarket where you can buy provisions. So stock up and retreat to the peace and quiet of the lodge! it really is in an idyllic setting, with a river about 100 yds from the front door, and surrounded by pine forest. Highly recommended...cant wait to get out there again!

The log cabin is in a beautiful location, wonderfully quiet and peaceful. Although the outside temperature was as low as -10, the cabin was always warm and welcoming inside. There are some lovely walks in the area. The wood fired hot tub is a delight. We were sitting in lovely hot water in the dead of night with an outside temperature of -8, looking up at an impossibly starry sky. A memory that will live with us for a very long time. The owner made us feel very welcome and settled us in when we arrived. This has been a delightful old fashioned Christmas for our family. Long walks in the snow on Christmas day and we never even turned the tv on! Steve Smyth & family

Everything was ready for us & cabin was nice & warm. Views were amazing & it was very peaceful. Loads of snow. Only problem was we couldn't get the fire in the hot tub to stay lit so we gave up with that. Will definately be going back

Had a great holiday this August in Gjovdal. Lovely, cosy, well-equipped cabin - great views and great location. Beautiful surroundings - very peaceful and lots to do if you like hiking, walking, cycling, swimming, messing about in boats. Rained a lot, but it was so warm that we didn't mind and the sun came out at some point on most days. Saw moose and an eagle and deer and fish and the kids (3 & 5 years old) had a great time in the water and in the woods. Thanks too to Norway Direct who were really friendly and helpful and to Ann Elisabeth who took us to the cabin when we arrived.

Well… what can I say… except our stay at the cabin made it a magical mystical Christmas for the whole family. If you haven’t put Norway on your Christmas list then do so now. The very well appointed log cabin is quiet and secluded. Snow and ice abound yet the accommodation is a warm and welcoming sanctuary with real log fires making it a cosy snug retreat. Set in the eternal Norwegian pine forests the cabin is surrounded by small mountains and an abundance of lakes and rivers many of which are frozen at this time of year. There is plenty of scope for those who like winter sports and Gautfall is only a short drive away if you would like to try your hand at skiing and sledging. The daylight here has many moods, with a persistently low sun and misty mornings every day was atmospheric. Halvor, our host could not have been more helpful. He set a Christmas tree in the living room and was most accommodating in every way. Thank you for making our Christmas so memorable. I fell in love with your country and the people could not have been kinder. Ricky, Sheila and Family.

Met Tony on route who was really helpfull and freindly. The Cabin is fantastic, arrived to quite a lot of snow ind icy conditions, cabin was toasting, warm and inviting. Very well equipped, like home from home. The area is outstanding, the people are freindly, warm and very very helpfull. The Hot Tub was brilliant, get the lads to organise it and relax for a few hours while it gets hot, great experience in the freezing cold, was really hot. The guys down at the local shop were really helpfull and even opened up on Sunday for us to get groceries. Lots to explore and visit, some great wild walks, lakes at the top of the mountain are awesome, loads of Beavers, also saw linx prints, but sadly no elk must have been too cold. l will be 100% coming back to experience the summer. Cat, Tim, Mark, and Helen, Wales.
An excellent honeymoon was had at Norwegian Wood. Tony is extremely helpful and answered all our questions and queries. Cabin was basic but well equipped. Went in the hottub every night, warms up quickly and the icing on the cake for the property!
Owner reply:

Thank you for the kind comments... although the cabin has never been referred to as basic before. This is a log cabin... I would use probably use the word "rustic" instead. The cabin has a flat screen and dvds and sattlelite TV. The hot tub also adds the luxury feel.We will be adding a sauna in the very near future and continue to upgrade the facilities. But we must take care not to spoil the rustic charm of the cabin and the location. regards Tony

The most beautiful place I have been to, and we have been to a lot. Children loved it and the local shop keepers were so wonderful. I would have to give it 8 out of 10 always waiting for the 10.
The property was clean, comfortable and had everything that you could need.
Very good spacious cabin, fully equipped and located right next to a trout infested river. it is so quiet day and night that youll have trouble sleeping once you leave. Very good positive experience.
The property and location were absolutely stunning, fantastic opportunites for hiking, swimming (in lakes and rivers), mounaineering, cycling (our lovely host very kindly provided a bicycle!), fishing,...all on on our doorstep!! The locals were all very friendly, lending us fishing gear and hiking guides and maps. It was one of the most peaceful, beautiful places we had ever visited. We also found the property very well equipped-especially enjoyed making waffles in the waffle iron! And eating the delicious rainbow trout caught in the river! For us, the best thing were the views from the mountain tops after exhilarating hikes on freshly marked trails. We did NOT want to go home!
Had the most wonderful, almost dream-like long weekend here at Norwegian Wood. Met Tony & Lisa en-route to the cabin and they explained everything we needed to know. Arrived at the cabin in minus 10 degrees and it was so warm and welcoming. Could not get over the quality of accommodation, all mod cons yet subtly so. They have retained its old-word log cabin feel. Spent 3 days trekking about in the forest and hills in metre thick snow. Heard and then saw a woodpecker in the back garden which was cool. Lots of elk tracks but never an elk, they are quite elusive it seems! Any requirement is catered for. We cooked all our own meals and never wanted for a pot or a pan, a toaster or a microwave. They have loads of English channels on the TV and a DVD player with lots of cool DVDs in the bookshelf in the hall too which came in handy. Theres a proper piano in the living area too which was cool as my boyfriend is learning so that was brilliant. The hot tub as Tony says is certainly a labour of love. I recommend if youre using it in serious minus temps to give yourself lots of time. We started filling it at 4pm and it was warm but not hot enough to sit in at 2am which was disappointing but we cant say we didnt try! Having said that it was minus 9 degrees outside! All in all an absolutely fabulous weekend. We popped into Amli on the sat for provisions and found a lovely quiet village with a very handy mini market. Really nice drive too. Would highly recommend it and hope to visit again in the summer with lots of friends.
We had a fantastic holiday in the norwegian log cabin, the whole experience exceeded our expectations. The scenery from the cabin was breathtaking, snow everywhere. The walk down to the beach was like a winter wonderland. The cabin had everything we needed, loads of timber to keep the log fire going. The highlight of the cabin was the hot tub which we werent expecting to be there. It was a pleasant suprise. It was an amazing experience. sitting in the hot tub in sub zero temperatures looking up at the stars. Overall it was a brilliant holiday, the best so far! We will definetly be back, we would love to see the area in the summertime, it would be fantastic having your own private beach in the sun! Tony the owner was lovely, he met us at the airport and gave us loads of information about the area and places to see. Thanks again Tony! Victoria and Pat
We had a fabulous time, we had hoped for snow but despite there being none the icy stillness of the beautiful forests surrounding the cabin were quite fantastic. We saw elk but no lynx and loved the beach. The owner shopped for us superbly and decorated the cabin for Xmas, even put a tree up and lit the stove before we arrived. Despite sub zero temperatures outside we were really warm and cosy and the owner was welcoming and looked after us very well. We hope to go back. Thanks for a great time.
The cabin was warm, well equipped, larger than we expected and in a wonderful location. Our reception was friendly and very helpful.Gautefall was further away than we anticipated, (journey 1hr 10 mins) but well worth the journey, both from scenery, snow and new ski centre points of view. The views and scenery accessible by cross country skiing were stunning. Unrelated to the property, it would be helpful if Norway Direct could have pointed out that the shops close over Easter from Thursday night through to Tuesday, opening only for a few hours on Saturday. As this was a fairly remote self catering holiday, this information would have been helpful. Luckily for us, we met a student at the airport who warned us, so we did have something to eat, and were able to enjoy the holiday to the full.
The property is in excellent condition, fully equiped, lovely fire place and a great veranda to sit on and have meals. The location itself is beautiful and serene. Village of Gjovdal is about 1km away, also small, pretty and quiet. Overall, great place to go for walks (or biking) especially up small mountains, where there are extraordinary views of lakes. Beautiful forests surround, full of berries and mushrooms. Ideal place to bring children as the location is very safe and the cabin very comfortable. The only problem we identified relates to target shooting. There is a shooting range within maybe 100 m of the property (on the other side of the stream) and people come practically every evening for 2-3 hours and shoot at targtes, which means that animal life is generally disturbed and there is much noise. Despite the above issue, we would definitely recommend to others and would also like to go there again.
Owner reply:

We will talk to the owners... about this. However.. this is not the norm. all year round only in the run up to the hunting season. thank you for bringing it to our attention.
