La Capanna is part of a small farm complex consisting of farm house and renovated barn, the barn 'La Capanna' has a large double bedroom, open plan kitchen/livingroom with double sofa bed and two single folding beds in the, modern bathroom, satelilite tv, outside eating place, garden, . The farm has a large swimming pool (22mx8m) a rather delapedted tennis court, functional however, barbeque, lots of land, olive grove, orchard and woods and spectacular veiws of Chianti hills and mountains, guests are welcome to use our farm produce, olive oil, vegetables fruit, poultry produce and local wine. The farm is within easy walking distance of trattorie, pizzerie and shops. There are many historical villages, churches and lovely countryside nearby. There are also 'Outlets' selling Gucci, Armani, Prada produce within easy driving distance. Florence, Arezzo and Siena can be easily reached by car or train, and for longer visits to Florence we can usualy provide accomadiation. It is a good idea to have car, but there is public transport (bus) , though not frequent, the station is a 15 minute drive away. with frequent trains to Florence, Arezzo; Rome and the other famous Italian cities. The area is famous as the birthplace of the Italian renassance as Massacio was born nearby, and the local Romanic churches /Pievi) are very beautiful. On the mountain behind us and in the valley the other sied are some famous monasteries founded by Saint Frances of Assisi, the monks planted a forest on the mountain many hundreds of years ago and it is still the place where Florentines go to keep cool in the summer. There is a street market in one of the local towns every day of the week, and there are many local 'feste' in the summer.
I can give you all the artistic and historic information you need having studied fine arts in Florence. I can provide meals if you want - especially if you arrive late! and and we will provide the basics for breakfast.

We had a great time in Tuscany, and Joanna helped to make our stay memorable. Nothing was too much trouble and to be invited to dinner on arrival was a lovely touch. The location is a little way out of town but is easily accessible and has enough shops and pizzerias locally. Overall an area that is very welcoming and the hospitality shown will encourage us to return in the not too distant future.
We've just spent 5 AMAZING weeks here and it felt completely like home! The house was superb for what we needed (me + 4 young kids). Joanna the owner was WONDERFUL - just the kindest person who was always around to give help or advice, nothing was too much bother ever! The pool was DIVINE and we spent many happy hours splashing around. The kids adored the animals and exploring the orchard for unusual fruit - many hours of entertainment. The villa is perfectly located to explore Tuscany and we ventured as far as Pisa, Rome, Siena, Montepulciano and the Chianti countryside. 5 very happy blissful weeks - we are just sad it had to end but WE WILL BE BACK ;)!
Joanna was the consummate host. She really did go beyond our expectations.
We were tired from the drive there and on the first evening, she bought groceries for us which saved us having to get in the car again :)
She and her family were all so lovely and welcoming. The animals were so sweet too, it was really nice to have them dotted around, really added to the stay.
We had a couple of day trips to Florence and Pisa and Joanna dropped/collected us to/from the train station for one of these and she was available via text when we needed her (and I admit once we really did....oh foreign transport systems! haha)
The location is just so beautiful and Joanna told us where we could go and see the fireflies (just a small walk away), which was really spectacular.
It was also really nice having a pool to use on those hot Tuscan afternoons and the pictures don't do it justice, you just have to be there and SEE that view.
A lovely experience.
Where to begin, Joanna could not have been a better host for our holiday/honeymoon. I was not able to drive during our stay but Joanna picked us up at the train station and drove us to the villa, she also took us to the local supermarket so we could buy groceries, and during our stay brought us in and out to Florence so that we could catch the train to Venice (you will need a car as the villa is not close to the city). She also brought us on a mini tour of the Tuscan countryside which was lovely. From start to finish we were made to feel as we were part of the family and not just guests renting her house. Just to be aware, as stated in the description of the villa there are animals, dogs, cats, chickens etc.. but if you love animals then there should be no problem and nowhere better to go. Overall we could not recommend this villa or its owners more highly. Really made our honeymoon special.
Having just returned from our holiday in Tuscany, I am writing to wholeheartedly recommend this location to anyone looking for a tranquil and relaxing place to base your trip. Joanna and her husband could not have done more to make us feel welcome. The property is both spacious and light and is equipped with everything you could possibly need. The swimming pool is immense and very private and is set in large grounds of fruit and olive trees. The villa has dogs, cats, geese and chickens so if you like animals, this is the place.
With Joannas advice, we were able to find some great places to visit and restaurants to eat in. The location is ideal for visiting Florence, Siena, Arezzo, San Gimignano. Greve in Chianti is also worth a mention with its wonderful butchers shop and café.
Once you have found this villa (some work needed on directions Villarenters), you instantly begin to unwind into the Italian rustic way of life. We noted that many of Joannas guests return time after time to the villa and it is easy to see why. Thanks once again Joanna.

The pool and surrounding area are very large. We suggest that the property is suitable for a family with children as there is only one bathroom, we can offer seperate bedrooms in the farmhouse for extra adults.
