About

I have run my holiday cottage for over 10 years now and enjoy providing guests with the little extras that ensure they have a great holiday. I live next door to The Croft so am on hand if guests need any help but the cottage is very private with its own terrace and garden.

The house is a beautiful home from home in a great area with easy access to the national park as well as the coast. We had a wonderful time, the garden was completely dog friendly and the welcome pack was a lovely touch.

The welcome could not have been warmer nor the house more comfortable or better appointed. This was not our first visit nor our last.

A lovely place to stay with fabulous views and a friendly and helpful owner living next door. Well equipped , warm and a true home from home. I almost hesitated to give 5 stars as selfishly I don't want everyone to be booking this wonderful holiday home! Some people might find the steep drive a challenge but we both had good sized cars and managed fine, although I wouldn't want to do it in icey conditions.. I'd leave the car at the top! We will definitely return.

Glad you enjoyed your stay at The Croft. We always keep an eye out for the weather in winter and park in the space at the top of the drive if it looks as if it might snow. Luckily the trees protect the drive and the sun quickly melts any ice. It is only if it snows significantly that the drive is out of use for a day or two.

We had a fabulous few days at the Croft. An elegant property with plenty of space, elevated views, comfortable beds, everything you need. We were sad to leave and hope to return again one day!

The Croft is a wonderful house to stay in - a real home from home. Very comfortable and perfect as our base for our St Owalds Way walking holiday. Cathy, the owner, who lives next door welcomed us on the first day and told us lots about the building and the area. A lovely welcome pack of goodies was most appreciated. The home is well equipped and even comes with a piano in the dining room. The lounge is a good size and comfortably accommodated four adults. The kitchen was compact but very practical and had all the equipment we needed. The entrance lobby and utility room off it was great for our walking equipment. Both double beds were comfortable and each had its own bathroom, albeit neither are en-suite. Fabulous views across Rothbury and the hillside opposite make this an idyllic place to stay. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can return.

Great that The Croft was well positioned for walking St Oswald’s Way and that your non walking companions found so much of interest to do in Northumberland.

Property had old world charm with modern every day facilities. The properties location with it's splendid views was an added bonus and we were sorry to say goodbye to. Rothbury shops etc are within walking distance, although the walk back up the hill would not suit everyone, however, there is always parking spaces in the town. The fish & chip shop and the La Mensa Italian restaurant are highly recommended. Cragside is a must do as is Belsay House, Wallington and Howick House/garden. Our host was very informative and our welcome pack was much appreciated. Thus in conclusion, we would definitely recommend this property.

We had a lovely two week stay at The Croft in Rothbury. This was our third stay at the cottage, but at a different time of year. The house has so much history and we love the big rooms and beautiful views from every window. The house is very homely and the bed is so comfortable. There is a piano and plenty of sheet music should you wish to play. Cathy made sure we had everything we needed. She is a lovely lady and and provided a delicious welcome pack which contained homemade jam and marmalade. Cathy lives next door but you would never know as she is not intrusive. The cottage garden is beautiful and a haven for wildlife. the scent of the flowers is beautiful when you sit on the terrace in the evening with a glass of wine. We were so lucky with the weather. Our two dogs loved the garden as it is secure. We could just let them out to play. There are walks from the door in all directions and Cragside is a very short drive away (or walk if you are feeling brave). There is a good circular route downhill to the main street in Rothbury and back for any shopping needs or to visit a local café or pub. The cottage provided a good base for visiting plenty of places. Alnwick is 30 minutes away for bigger shops and superstores. There is also Barter Books which is a famous bookshop set in an old railway station and Alnwick Castle which is used as a filming location. We also visited Edlingham, Craster, Lindisfarne, Seahouses. Beadnell, Boulmer and Alnmouth have small but free car parks right next to the beach. Amble is a lovely and has the best fish and chip shop we have ever been to. We also visited lots of other villages and locations where Geocaching took us. Northumberland is very dog friendly and we love the ruggedness of the area. It is a beautiful county. Thank you so much Cathy for our stay. We hope to be back in the future.

Thank you so much for your informative review. You certainly packed a lot into your stay. We are fortunate in Rothbury as we are in the middle of this lovely county so it is easy to get to the coast and castles, to the east, the Roman wall, Hexham and Corbridge to the south, the Cheviots and National Park to the West and the Scottish Borders and the ancient Abbeys to the North with lots of gardens, nature reserves and historic houses and churches in between.

We had a lovely stay at the Croft. The house is very comfortable, warm and homely with everything you need. The beds have good quality mattresses which, along with the peace and quiet made for an excellent nights sleep. The views from the front of the cottage are stunning with an accessible garden. The drive to the property is a little steep with just enough room to turn at the bottom but we didn't encounter any problems. Rothbury is a nice little town with pubs and places to eat out. Had a lovely meal at La Mensa. Rothbury is a good base for sightseeing around Northumberland. We were able to visit Cragside, Chillingham castle, Morpeth, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Amble, Alnwick and thanks to Cathy the owners recommendation the lovely area of Etal and Ford. Cathy is a good host, friendly and helpful and available if needed. Thank you Cathy for the loan of your beautiful house.
