Nicely located in the town of Cantal on a large plot. Nice view from the balcony on the surroundings. With the dog within a few minutes outside the built-up area, and then walk on quiet mountain roads. Very quiet location, very little traffic noise, between 12 and 2 in the afternoon you hear nothing.

A couple and two friends booked this house to stay in for 10 nights as it was central to the Auvergne area which we wanted to explore; we also wanted somewhere calm and peaceful - we weren't disappointed on either requirement. A quiet village, lovely house, not luxurious but very clean and with everything necessary for four people. The owner lives nearby so collecting the key was easy and also useful when we had no hot water one morning - she fetched a local engineer from up the street, a boiler problem was diagnosed and fixed within the hour. Large garden, mainly lawn, set back from the very minor road so the house would be ideal for children. The house is five minutes walk from the village centre which has a grocery shop right in the middle as well as a butcher and a couple of bakers (fresh baguettes!), and two larger supermarkets ten minutes walk/5 mins drive away, plus a proper village market on Thursday mornings. There are two hotels with restaurants and about 6 smaller bistros/restaurants in the village and a large outdoor swimming pool a similar distance away too. However, the local holiday season is July and August, so the pool was closed and only one or two eating places open each evening because we visited in June. That said, the food was good to excellent in all the places we tried and there are perfecly adequate facilities and utensils in the holiday house for cooking 'at home'. The only downsides were that the mattress on the upstairs bed wasn't very supportive and there was no wifi/internet access (though maybe the latter is a bonus!)
