Stayed Friday 04 April 2014 with Family
We stayed here for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The family is very friendly and helpful. They provided a crib with mosquito net for our 9 month old and the kitchen is adequately supplied. The property is just over the railway tracks in a tropical garden next to a Buddhist temple. Its very quiet except for the occasional train that goes rumbling by. Its a five minute walk to the fabulous Narigama beach. The outdoor area is great to hang out in though our little boy kept wanting to explore the mud and pot plants! Great for a family with a small child.
We rented a cottage Samana Siri in December 2012. Mr. Saman very friendly and caring host. On the first day of arrival showed us shops, beach, recommended us a restaurant with good food. Cottage is not very big, is set back from the road so noise is not audible. In general, all fits the description. Many thanks to Samana and his son for the attention!
My wife and I stayed here for 5 weeks Feb 2011. For what you pay, this place has to be the bargain of all time. Compared with other villas close to where it is at, this place has got what it takes at a price that has to be seen to be beat. Close to the northern end of Hikk, and a number of quality restaurants as well as access to the beach. The truth is that whilst the bungalow offers you all the facilities you need, whilst there is a well stocked kitchen, aside from a kettle you dont need anything else. Food out is cheap enough not to worry how to stretch your budget, we ate out every night and still took money home at the end of the stay (breakfast as well). What it does offer is a washing machine, which when you consider our stay was 5 weeks was something we couldnt do without. The family Saman, are a very nice typical Sri Lankan family, and with a brother with his own taxi, making trips out all the more easier to sort out, not that you really want to leave the area anyway. Hikk itself has everything you need with a marvellous market down by the Railway Station, as well as a meat, fish and veg market (if you do want to cook). Plenty of 5* PADI diving to be had, as well as a number of other resort entertainment. They also have a music festival although I cant remember what time of year it is held. Things to do, use the local trains to visit Columbo, Candy and Gauli, take a river trip and visit one of the national parks. Or simply relax, sit back and read a book (although with a Kindle you can read a UK newspaper daily if you want) or two or three. I could wax lyrical for ever and a day, but the truth is that even if you only do the usual 2 weeks, including the cost of Air Fair, Sri Lanka is very very doable and compares favourable with any Costa in Spain.
A great little find on the jungle side of Hikkaduwa. Saman Siri Cottage has some of the mod cons you wouldnt except in properties in this price bracket, such as a safe, hot water & air con. We didnt use the kitchenette but that would be great for people who plan to stay in Hikkaduwa for any length of time and are on a budget. My main worry about being on the jungle side was the mosquitos but we didnt have a problem with them at all and it was interesting to experience the sights and sounds of the jungle when in previous stays in Sri Lanka weve always stayed in beach side guest houses. Thumbs up!

We stayed in Saman's holiday home this September for 15 days in total. The room was wonderful, bright and cooling and the kitchen worked perfectly! If any of us were planning to go back to Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa, we would most definitely stay there again!Thank you Saman for your kindness in our stay.Sofia, Lucy and Kate, UK
Having stayed at Saman’s place in July 2010 I can recommend this as an excellent place to spend your holiday.Nestled in lush Sri Lankan jungle and only 2 minutes’ walk from Narigama beach, the bungalow includes everything you could want with a self-sufficient kitchen, a washing machine and a breezy outdoor area where you can sit and while away the time or entertain friends. Waking up in the morning you can have your breakfast whilst gazing at the lush tropical garden, watching out for local birds and if you're lucky, glimpsing a bit of wildlife such as monkeys or monitor lizards.Close enough to walk to restaurants, shops and the beach but tucked away amidst 'real' Sri Lankan life Saman's gives you the best of both worlds. It offers outstanding value for money and will make sure you get the most out of your Sri Lanka holiday.Emily MAfghanistan
New York Times ranks Sri Lanka as No. 1 destination to visit in 2010. "The island, with a population of just 20 million, feels like one big tropical zoo: elephants roam freely, water buffaloes idle in paddy fields and monkeys swing from trees. And then there’s the pristine coastline ... miles of sugary white sand flanked by bamboo groves."
