A one bedroomed property with en suite bathroom, kitchenette, aircon and WiFi. Only two minutes' walk from the beach.
Ideal for couples or those with a baby or young child.
Saman Siri Cottage has one double bedroom, en suite bathroom with hot water shower, a fully equipped kitchenette and a spacious veranda with banquette seating which serves as a sitting cum dining room.
It is situated in the grounds of a Sri Lankan family home in Narigama at the south end of Hikkaduwa.
Close enough to walk to the beach, restaurants and shops, but tucked away amidst 'real' Sri Lankan life, Saman Siri Cottage offers the best of both worlds. The well-tended tropical garden offers a tranquil refuge from the buzz of Hikkaduwa's lively social scene.
The bedroom has a double bed with sprung mattress, mosquito net, air conditioning, two clothes hanging rails with coat hangers, a shelf unit, a writing table and chair and a mini safe. Bed linen and towels are provided (but not beach towels).
A cot bed suitable for a baby or toddler is available on request. A folding bed suitable for a child up to the age of 12 is available on request. Both have a mosquito net. Please note that only two adults and one child under the age of 12 can be accommodated.
The bathroom has a hot water shower, toilet with bidet shower and sink.
The kitchenette has a top loading fully automatic washing machine, a full size fridge with freezer compartment, kettle, toaster and a two-ring gas cooker. Crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking utensils and cooking gas are provided.
THERE IS NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR ELECTRICITY OR WIFI INTERNET ACCESS.
LOCATION OF PROPERTY
The cottage is situated halfway between Narigama and Thiranagama Junctions, close to Sumanarama Buddhist Temple (Thiranagama) and about 30 metres behind the railway line.
The houses are not numbered and there are no street names making the place difficult to find on the first visit. We always meet guests on the main road and guide them to the property.
It's easy to hire a motorbike or bicycle. Tuktuks (three wheeler taxis) are readily available. Public buses are also plentiful. Hikkaduwa main bus and train stations are 2km away.
Narigama beach is a two minute walk away with its numerous restaurants, bars and surf points.
A wide range of sporting and sightseeing activities can be arranged including:
Surfing, snorkelling, PADI scuba diving, sea fishing trips, dolphin and whale watching, lagoon trips and water sports
Bicycle rides through the paddy fields
Day trips to a low country tea plantation, a cinnamon plantation, a turtle hatchery
Turtle feeding on Hikkaduwa beach
Local and island round tours
The historic town of Galle - a UNESCO World Heritage site - with its 16th century Dutch Fort and international cricket ground is only 15km away. Look out for Galle’s international literary, arts and film festivals.
You should apply for a visa to enter Sri Lanka before travelling. This can be done online at: http://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa/visainfo/center.jsp.
You will need to provide the address of the accommodation which is: Wedage Watta, Narigama, Hikkaduwa.

We stayed here for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The family is very friendly and helpful. They provided a crib with mosquito net for our 9 month old and the kitchen is adequately supplied. The property is just over the railway tracks in a tropical garden next to a Buddhist temple. Its very quiet except for the occasional train that goes rumbling by. Its a five minute walk to the fabulous Narigama beach. The outdoor area is great to hang out in though our little boy kept wanting to explore the mud and pot plants! Great for a family with a small child.

We rented a cottage Samana Siri in December 2012. Mr. Saman very friendly and caring host. On the first day of arrival showed us shops, beach, recommended us a restaurant with good food. Cottage is not very big, is set back from the road so noise is not audible. In general, all fits the description. Many thanks to Samana and his son for the attention!

My wife and I stayed here for 5 weeks Feb 2011.
For what you pay, this place has to be the bargain of all time. Compared with other villas close to where it is at, this place has got what it takes at a price that has to be seen to be beat. Close to the northern end of Hikk, and a number of quality restaurants as well as access to the beach. The truth is that whilst the bungalow offers you all the facilities you need, whilst there is a well stocked kitchen, aside from a kettle you dont need anything else. Food out is cheap enough not to worry how to stretch your budget, we ate out every night and still took money home at the end of the stay (breakfast as well). What it does offer is a washing machine, which when you consider our stay was 5 weeks was something we couldnt do without.
The family Saman, are a very nice typical Sri Lankan family, and with a brother with his own taxi, making trips out all the more easier to sort out, not that you really want to leave the area anyway.
Hikk itself has everything you need with a marvellous market down by the Railway Station, as well as a meat, fish and veg market (if you do want to cook). Plenty of 5* PADI diving to be had, as well as a number of other resort entertainment. They also have a music festival although I cant remember what time of year it is held.
Things to do, use the local trains to visit Columbo, Candy and Gauli, take a river trip and visit one of the national parks. Or simply relax, sit back and read a book (although with a Kindle you can read a UK newspaper daily if you want) or two or three.
I could wax lyrical for ever and a day, but the truth is that even if you only do the usual 2 weeks, including the cost of Air Fair, Sri Lanka is very very doable and compares favourable with any Costa in Spain.

A great little find on the jungle side of Hikkaduwa. Saman Siri Cottage has some of the mod cons you wouldnt except in properties in this price bracket, such as a safe, hot water & air con. We didnt use the kitchenette but that would be great for people who plan to stay in Hikkaduwa for any length of time and are on a budget. My main worry about being on the jungle side was the mosquitos but we didnt have a problem with them at all and it was interesting to experience the sights and sounds of the jungle when in previous stays in Sri Lanka weve always stayed in beach side guest houses. Thumbs up!

This is an amazing place to stay. It's not on the beach but it is tucked back in the jungle. The beach is a short walk away. The amenities are awesome, especially for someone like me who has been traveling for a few weeks. There is a kitchen, hot shower, wifi, air conditioning, and best of all, a laundry machine! The hosts are really wonderful there to answer any questions yet very respectful of your space. It was truly a wonderful way to experience Hikkaduwa.

Great place for a relaxing holiday. A cozy cottage is fully equipped for a comfortable stay. Lakshan and his family are very friendly and attentive people. We had help in everything! A small but very nice garden. Ocean in a 5-minute slow walk. Near Thiranagama station small fruit and vegetable market. Rarely a passing train hoot at night, we did not care. There are much cheaper options. But if I'm in Hikkaduwa again, I stopped with Lakshan!

The host Lakshan was very friendly and speaks good english. He met me from the town so no problems finding the cottage. It is in a lovely big tropical garden (lots of coconut trees) near to the family house, but separate in its own space with outside verandah. Very comfortable sleeping with aircon & fan with large bed under a mosquito net. There is also a separate little kitchen and good bathroom with shower. It is all very clean with nice towels & linen. Lakshan also took me to the local Hikkaduwa markets & then the family cooked and shared an evening fish barbecue in the gardens. The cottage is very close (walking distance) to the ocean with its beautiful long beach, nearby are little shops and bakery. The host and his family are always helpful and on hand if needed but not intrusive. The cottage is ideal for solo travellers and couples looking for a hideaway that's great value for money. It's a relaxing place to stay & easy to get to the beach & town when you want and lovely people who look after you.

The guesthouse is really comforteble and clean. We stayed there for 5 days. To the beach is just a few meters walking. Saman and his family are friendy, and the respect our privacy. There is only one guesthouse, so there is no contact with others. The house is in a garden. We stayed there only for the nights becourse there is no internet, and therefore we went to the beach. In fact we found it a lonely place, others will love it. You can here the birds and in the morning apes are running over the roof.

We stayed in Saman's holiday home this September for 15 days in total. The room was wonderful, bright and cooling and the kitchen worked perfectly! If any of us were planning to go back to Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa, we would most definitely stay there again!Thank you Saman for your kindness in our stay.Sofia, Lucy and Kate, UK
Having stayed at Saman’s place in July 2010 I can recommend this as an excellent place to spend your holiday.Nestled in lush Sri Lankan jungle and only 2 minutes’ walk from Narigama beach, the bungalow includes everything you could want with a self-sufficient kitchen, a washing machine and a breezy outdoor area where you can sit and while away the time or entertain friends. Waking up in the morning you can have your breakfast whilst gazing at the lush tropical garden, watching out for local birds and if you're lucky, glimpsing a bit of wildlife such as monkeys or monitor lizards.Close enough to walk to restaurants, shops and the beach but tucked away amidst 'real' Sri Lankan life Saman's gives you the best of both worlds. It offers outstanding value for money and will make sure you get the most out of your Sri Lanka holiday.Emily MAfghanistan
