A one bedroomed property with en suite bathroom, kitchenette, aircon and WiFi. Just a short walk to the beach.
Ideal for couples or those with a baby or young child.
Rockland Garden (also locally known as Saman Siri Cottage) is situated in a safe and peaceful location within the grounds of a Sri Lankan family home in Narigama at the south end of Hikkaduwa. Close enough to walk to restaurants, shops and the beach, but tucked away amidst 'real' Sri Lankan life, it offers the best of both worlds.
The family garden is well-tended with lots of tropical plants, birds and occasional visiting monkeys.
The bedroom has a double bed with sprung mattress, mosquito net, air conditioning unit, two clothes hanging rails with coat hangers, a shelf unit, a writing table and chair and a mini safe. Bed linen and towels are provided (but not beach towels).
A cot bed suitable for a baby or toddler or a folding bed suitable for a child up to the age of 12 are available at no extra charge. Both have a mattress and mosquito net.
There is no extra charge for electricity or cooking gas.
A microwave can be hired for LKR 500 a day.
LOCATION OF PROPERTY
The cottage is situated halfway between Narigama and Thiranagama Junctions, close to Sumanarama Buddhist Temple and about 30 metres behind the railway line.
The houses are not numbered and there are no street names making the place difficult to find on the first visit. We always meet guests on the main road and guide them to the property.
GETTING AROUND
It's easy to hire a motorbike or bicycle. Tuktuks (three wheeler taxis) are readily available. Public buses are also plentiful. Hikkaduwa main bus and train stations are 2km away.
ACTIVITIES
One of the most beautiful stretches of beach in Hikkaduwa is just a few minutes' walk away and was the location for the British TV programme Good Karma Hospital.
There are lots of things to do in and around Hikkaduwa including:
a visit to working tea plantation (Handunugoda)
local markets
a moonstone mine at Meetiyagoda
an elephant reserve (Udawalawe National Park)
Kottawa forest reserve
lagoon trips at Dodanduwa (by canoe) and Balapitiya (by motor boat)
turtle sanctuaries
feed wild turtles on the beach
surfing
snorkelling
PADI scuba diving
paddle boarding
sea fishing trips
whale watching from Mirissa
water sports

And of course there is the beach to enjoy with lots of different bars and restaurants.
The historic town of Galle - a UNESCO World Heritage site - with its 16th century Dutch Fort and international cricket ground is only 15km away. Look out for Galle's international literary festival held in January each year.
We can also help organise local and island round tours and airport pickup and drops.
