Villa overview

A modern and spacious villa just 10 minutes' walk from Fig Tree Bay and the centre of Protaras, Villa Pistachio lies within seconds of the sea on Cyprus' eastern coast. With an impressive pool and terrace, this villa is also ideally located for local restaurants and amenities.

The large terrace area is one of the highlights of this attractive villa, with an array of sun loungers, an outdoor shower and a lovely dining area surrounding the pool. A covered area provides shade when you want it, and there is direct access from the poolside to the indoor living spaces via patio doors.

The interior is fully air-conditioned and well furnished, with a large open-plan living and dining area. There is a lovely seating area with comfortable sofas, satellite TV and a coffee table and, on the other side of the room, a high-quality kitchen with a dishwasher, large fridge, freezer, microwave and much more. You also have a barbecue right outside.

Four spacious bedrooms can be found on the next level up – two doubles and two twins. All have fitted wardrobes, and some have access to the upper balcony. A family bathroom with bathtub and overhead shower is also found on this floor.

Villa Pistachio's position is ideal for visiting the many beaches that the Protaras area is known for. Nearby Fig Tree Bay is perhaps the most popular of all, and offers great facilities. Others which are quieter and more secluded are well worth seeking out too. The resort offers a wide range of amenities for visitors, including a variety of restaurants and bars. Avoid the tourist traps and head for those run by locals who really know and love Cypriot cuisine – it's a discovery well worth making.

Not too far from Protaras, you have the town of Ayia Napa. Famed for clubbing, it has much more to offer, including some good family attractions, including mini-golf, go-karting, a fun fair and the Thalassa Museum, showcasing a whole other side of the town.

Location

The south-eastern corner of Cyprus has a bit of everything – the beautiful forests of the Cape Greco National Park, the sunny beaches of Protaras, and the full-on nightlife of Ayia Napa. Add in some good family attractions along the way and the scenic stretch of coast snaking east of Larnaca has something for all tastes.

Protaras may not be as famous as its hedonistic neighbour, but what it lacks in nightlife it more than makes up for with its stunning beaches and easy-going character. This visitor-friendly resort still gets plenty of visitors, many of them drawn in by the likes of beautiful Fig Tree Bay, the town's best-known beach. A lovely spot for swimming, sunbathing or water-sports, this Blue Flag beach gets busy, so it's worth knowing about a few of the lesser-known beaches in the area.

Agia Triada is very pleasant golden beach located beside a small fishing harbour, where you can hop on a sun lounger and chill out all day. Quiet spots like Skoutari, Nisia and Pernera will also get you away from the crowds, while Green Bay is a good choice for those learning to dive. There are many more besides – in fact, you may not have time to try them all.

When you're not on the beach, you'll find a wide range of restaurants in Protaras, demonstrating the Cypriot love of good food in some style. Many make the most of their enviable locations, with cool beachfront terraces providing the ideal setting for meze and cocktails.

There is a bit of nightlife in Protaras, mainly catering to tourists, but it's not on the level of Ayia Napa where the more hardcore clubbers can be found. During the day, Ayia Napa has plenty to amuse the whole family, including a water park and adventures like dolphin-spotting boat safaris and open-top bus tours. Later, the foam parties, bar crawls and through-the-night clubbing begin – most clubs not kicking things off until around 1 am.
