We have lived full-time here in the Hautes-Alpes since 2018. This part of the Alps is little-known with UK visitors - perhaps it is considered too far to travel - but those who do make the journey soon realise that it is well worth it as the beauty of the area is stunning. We are fortunate to benefit from a mediterranean climate - we have hot summers (though never too hot) and cold winters. That said, in winter we more often than not have bright blue skies and sunny days. Our house faces due south and soaks up the sunshine.
