Adventure Dalmatia

We have had three very happy stays at Villa Dol in the summers of 2010, 2011 and 2012 with our 2 children, now aged 6 and 4. 

The house occupies a really beautiful spot on a raised location overlooking a valley dotted around with vineyards and olive groves, with the delightful old village of Dol a short walk away. It is an immaculately quiet location, and yet close by is the pretty coastal town of Postire (where there is a perfectly decent supermarket and a couple of good bars and restaurants, and from where one can take boat trips all over the island and beyond) and well-located for many of the decent beaches on this side of the island.

The house itself is clean and comfortable and very well-appointed (with a dishwasher and a high quality TV and DVD player), with all three bedrooms of a good size and 2 bathrooms. There are very good facilities for eating outside, with a large 8 person table in the barbecue area and a smaller table in the shade of the trees in front of the house (with that great view) where we would eat all of our lunchtime and evening meals. The pool is small but perfect for small children and some gentle exercise for grown-ups. It is looked after very well and is perfect for a hot summer day, with plenty of sun-loungers and other outdoor furniture. 

We really havent a bad word to say about the house, unsurprising given that we have returned twice more since our first visit. The peace and beauty of the valley within which Dol sits, and its distance and yet closeness to the sea, makes it perfect for young families.

Villa Dol

My husband and I and our three children (10,14,16) spent a very relaxing week at Villa Dol in August this year. The villa is a well restored old house with a great view down a lush valley (lush even during an extremely hot dry August!)
We were greeted with wine, olive oil and fruit when we arrived and found the house very well appointed and characterfully decorated. The downstairs living space is very usable with the kitchen open plan to the dining and seating area. One of the bedrooms and a shower room is downstairs and two more large bedrooms and a large shower room are upstairs. All very well decorated with interesting furniture.
There were books, games and dvds to use.

We are very keen on exploring but found that the villa and the heat tempted us to stay near the pool during the middle of the day! The terraced garden was delightful and we even spotted some beautiful and unusual birds (possibly Hoopoe).
The shaded barbecue area at one end of the house was comfortable and spacious. There was also a table and chairs in the shade of a tree overlooking the view. 
The sea is a mile or so away (visible down the valley) and we visited various local beaches. The little village of Dol is a short walk from the villa and has a couple of excellent local restaurants (Konoba Toni was great). The town has many old stone houses and unusual cave structures in the cliffs. The village has a small supermarket for basics and there are other larger supermarkets within a mile or two. 
We visited the famous beach at Bol (on the southern side of the island) and found that it was well worth getting up early so that we arrived ahead of the August crowds. It was truly idyllic to see it empty and swim in the crystal clear water.

The village of Skrip in the hills nearby is the oldest settlement on the island and is now a quiet village with an interesting Museum (and a wonderfully enthusiastic guide!) We also came across a fascinating old olive oil mill which has been restored and opened as a museum. The owners family had worked there until modern oil making methods had forced its closure in the seventies - he gave us an interesting tour.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay - definitely would recommend!
