My Husband and our 14 year old daughter and her 16 year old friend and I just returned from a blissful week at Casa Salto Del Caballo. We stayed in the Portugal apartment which was fully equipped with all the comforts of home. The kitchen is lovely and new and the bedrooms and bathrooms are fully appointed and more than comfortable. Eva, our host, is absolutely lovely and we took full advantage of her knowledge of the area to enhance our stay. The area itself is perfect, quiet, serene with pleasant people in the village of La Fontanera. We would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone. The pool was welcome refreshment and a relaxing escape at the end of a long day of sightseeing all the beauty this area of Spain/Portugal has to offer and the patio and barbeques are a great place to spend your evening. Thank you so very much Eva, Nigel and Leon for all your hospitality. We hope to see you very soon.

Finca holiday between Extremadura and Alentejo

Perfect Country Hideaway
My husband and I, along with our 2 dogs spent an amazingly relaxing week at Salto de Caballo. Eva was a wonderful host- so knowledgeable about the area, anticipating our needs, and always available should we need anything. The apartment was clean, charmingly decorated, and had everything we needed. There is enough in the area to fill your days with trips and hiking, but to be honest, we were very lazy. The weather was so nice for February that we spent most of our days sitting in in the garden reading and dreaming of what to cook on the wood grill. For city people, the quiet is priceless. We did manage to go to Marvao, the Eagles Castle in Portugal, which is highly impressive. We would definitely come back and have already recommended Salto de Caballo to several friends. Eva, thanks so much for a memorable vacation!

PERFECT
After spending time in Madrid, and a week at a resort in the Algarve, we were ready to get away. This place is the PERFECT get away. This is a quiet, beautiful, well kept, off the beaten path place to go. I wish we have had more time to spend there. The fire place was so nice to have in the evening, and especially on the cool mornings. The pool would be perfect when the weather heats up, to cool down after all the the great hiking trails that areright out your front door. Our hostess, Eva was what made PERFECT, even better. What a great lady.

My husband and myself, along with our son and his wife had a very enjoyable stay at Salto Del Caballo. We felt like we had truly gotten away from it all at this tranquil place. There is no business of any kind in La Fontanera - the closest town with groceries or restaurants is about 10km away. Everyday we enjoyed nice walks through the Spanish or Portugese countryside. The kitchen in our Espana apartment had everything we needed to cook meals and we also did a lot of cooking on the grill outside our door. There is no microwave in the kitchen. Having a washing machine in the apartment was a big plus and there is a nice long line to hang clothes behind the property. The wi-fi at this property is excellent. This property is well-taken care of and it was a true pleasure to sit outside among all the plants. Eva was an excellent hostess full of good information about the surroundings and events in the area. Eva made sure we had clean towels every few days. A visit to Marvao, which is visible on top of big hill in the distance, is a place to definitely visit while staying here. We would definitely come back to Salto del Caballo again! Thank you again, Eva for a wonderful stay!
