My wife & I booked a week at Pink Shack Studio Cottage in Five Islands Village in Antigua at relatively short notice. We were in contact with owner, Sonja from the start. On arrival Sonja gave us a great informative 30 minute tour of the local sites and beaches on the Five Islands peninsula to orientate us, which was a big help as the area does not appear very well described in guide books on Antigua. And although we were staying just a 10 minute drive from the capital St. Johns, the Five Islands area is very unspoilt and relatively cut off from other more tourist areas. The accommodation was self-contained and any requests to Sonja were happily granted, making our stay a wonderful experience. We decided the best and quietest beaches were the small secluded cove in front of Georgio Armani's private house and the first & third of the four consecutive Hawksbill beaches. A vehicle is not 100% necessary, but is recommended to get to see the many beautiful beaches and sites that Antigua has to offer. Finding somewhere to eat in the Five Villages area was more difficult as the several 'all inclusive' hotels in the area made buying a day pass or bookings in advance a necessity, however we usually had lunch at the Hawksbill Beach Hotel which charged us a reasonable price for what we ate. Other times we ate in at the Pink Shack after shopping in St Johns, also in restaurants in St Johns or elsewhere on the island. The only small gripes we had with the accommodation were the intermittent internet access, out of Sonja's control, a problem with the internet provider and occasionally a dog barking next door early in the morning (Sonja's small toy breed dogs never were a problem). All in all we had a fantastic stay here and would happily recommend it to anyone else wanting to book a small cottage away from the packaged holiday crowds.

We stayed at Pink Shack Cottage for the week of September 20-27, 2014. We had such an amazing time here in Antigua! Sonja, the owner of the property, is the nicest person and is so accommodating. She is extremely friendly and cheerful and was very welcoming to us on our arrival and throughout the entire week. She took us on a tour around to the various beaches near the cottage. She recommended various restaurants and gave wonderful directions when we needed them. The cottage itself is so cute and cozy. It is impeccably clean and tidy. The porch has seats and a table great for having coffee in the morning and listening to the birds chirp and the tropical greenery and palm trees sway with the breeze. Within 5 minutes driving time are many gorgeous beaches that are easily accessible to get to. These are: Hawksbill Beaches (4), Galley Bay, Armani Beach, Hideaway Bay, and Deep Bay. There is Fort Barrington at Deep Bay that you can hike up to for the most spectacular view of the bays and the mountains, as well as seeing the old fort and walking through it. Close by is also a great panoramic view of the Five Islands community that you can drive to most of the way and then walk the rest of the way up. The port city and capital of St. John is about 10 minutes away by car and that is where you can get groceries and supplies at the market, fresh fruits and vegetables, and where we ate most dinners. I highly recommend C&C Wine Bar, Big Banana Pizzas in Paradise, and Freds Belgium waffles and ice cream. They are all in Redcliffe Quay. I would recommend renting an SUV of some sort to have access to the other parts of the island. Some other beaches and places of interest are: Jolly Harbor area, Valley Church Beach The Nest Beach Bar, Ffrye Beach, Darkwood Beach, Turner Beach, Hermitage Beach, Shirley Heights, Devils Bridge. We had such an amazing time here and did not want to leave. I have already recommended this cottage to multiple people we met on the trip who stayed in secluded resorts. They were quite jealous when we told them about Pink Shack Cottage, the beautiful area of Five Islands, and what other parts of the island we were able to see with a rental car. I will also be recommending this cottage to my other friends where we live in Texas. We cant wait to go back and visit again! We already miss Sonja and her cute little dogs!

The Pink Shack is a hidden gem we stayed for six weeks starting in April and ending in June. The cottage was as described and the Five Islands village was rural ethnic Caribbean with the people so friendly. Beautiful beaches within walking distance and the capital St Johns a short bus ride away or a forty minute walk. The capital is a busy vibrant town where you can try almost any type of cuisine and any drink.! Sonja the owner was so helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble, she took us on a tour of the area to show where all the beaches were she supplied us with a cool box and lightweight sun beds. The village BBQ on Thursdays and Saturdays were great fun with good food and cold beers! We will certainly go back again and would recommend the cottage to anyone who wants a tranquil getaway in a quaint cottage in a tropical garden. Perfect!!

We have just returned from spending 8 wonderful days at the Pinkshack Cottage. The property is well furnished to a high standard, everything you need is provided, the cottage is spotless. Sonja, the owner, is a charming hostess and every day she makes you feel special with nice details such as giving you fruit from a lovely tropical garden, we even had a guided tour highlighting the various plants, shrubs and trees. Sonja gave us helpful information about the area. Her little dogs are very friendly and well behaved About the village, we strongly recommend the chicken and fresh fish barbecue which you takes place every Thursday and Saturday, near the hairdresser. The small village store/pub provides basic provisions such as bread, local fresh eggs...The closest beach (10 mn walk) is one of the most beautiful beaches. We also took the buses from Five Islands village to St. Johns, very typical and good service.

From 15 January 14 we spent five weeks bathing in the warmth from the beating heart of the Caribbean. We had such a holiday as never before and have already booked to come back for longer, next January. This is NOT offered as a Budget holiday, but at a very attractive price. As promised, Sonja collected us from the airport. We felt like we were the only people waiting to be so warmly welcomed. She took us first to the supermarket. Later her tour, those little extras and much local knowledge, made settling-in easy. Inside Pinkshack was as we had expected. Practical use of space: it had everything we needed and was easy to clean and maintain. Bottled water is so commonplace these days understanding the local water supply, you might crave a filter jug, but we happily cooked and made tea with it. Since these photos, the garden has become a full jungle of exotic fruits and flowers with Green Hummingbirds very special amongst the many that feed there. You wil be amongst caring, rural people, with homegrown customs of farm animal husbandry. Expect these to come moo-ing, quacking and crowing right to the fence. Pretty much everyone has a couple of dogs. Sonjas large flock of sweet little individuals, flowing like a wake from her heels, are each infinitely better cared for than those in neighbouring gardens. Their chorussed accompaniment to any movement is an abiding memory. Their gentle nature a testament to the love surrounding them. The new building advanced significantly while we were there. We spent long days out walked the village a lot, and bussed into town, made friends with many from Five Islands and in St Johns.... they make it SO easy. Cant wait to be back home next year!

From the start of our two week holiday Sonja the owner could not have been more helpful. We were given a welcome pack of various biscuits and nibbles, fruit and water in the fridge along with cold soft drinks and beer. We had visited a supermarket en route to the Pinkshack so had also bought basics for our first night. The shack is as described, small but clean, comfortable and has everything you need for a good holiday. We used the outside balcony to eat our meals and read books and even in the tropical rain you are covered by the overhanging roof. The garden is beautiful, and a riot of colour, full of tropical plants and fruit trees bringing humming birds right to your front door. When we were there in Jan 14 the garden was not really available to use since Sonja was building a second cottage, but she is going to fence off the two cottages to give more privacy and prevent her large collection of small dogs from using that part of the garden. If you like dogs youre in for a treat. The area is pretty rural and in our opinion you will need a car. You can certainly walk to the nearby beach in about 10 minutes but for the supermarket shopping you will need transport. Everything you need is only a short drive away. We had a perfect holiday and couldnt have asked for more help from Sonja, she even took us on a guided tour of the local beaches which you definitely need since finding them on your own would prove tricky. We would thoroughly recommend this holiday to anyone and are already looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed at the Pink cottage for 2 weeks in August, we had a great time Sonya the owner is on site and is both friendly and helpful she helped us arrange a 2 night stay on the island of Montserrat, which is worth visiting to see the active volcano. When we first arrived Sonya drove us around the nearby beaches as some are a little difficult to find initially, we loved deep bay. The cottage is clean and well kept with everything you need in a pretty garden which Sonya is adding more plants to. The seating area outside the cottage is ideal for reading a book and drinking a glass or two of wine, beware of the mossies and wear spray they come out at dusk! Sonya has a separate garden area for her toy dogs which whilst we were there had had puppies they were very cute and we were more than happy to have cuddles and have them on our balcony and in our garden area, if you dont like dogs I believe she is more than happy to keep them in the separate garden. As a dog lover we enjoyed the company and I think they enjoyed our bacon bits at breakfast time. Overall excellent value for money near the beaches 5-10 mins by car, 2 supermarkets 5-10 mins by car, St Johns again 5-10 mins drive Jolly harbour 10 minutes. Great to hire a car and drive around the island, we did this at the airport, but had additional CDW charges added although it was supposedly included, Sonya can arrange collection from the airport and local car hire this may be a better option as the roads arent very well signposted especially after a long flight. If you are looking to chill relax read and do a little sunbathing on a budget this is the place for you

Well what can I say. Firstly Sonja the owner is a very helpful and kind person who is just willing to help in every way possible, from the time I booked she went above and beyond to accommodate all my needs. The accommodation is very bright, clean, fully equip and very comfortable with plenty of long traditional windows, all which can be opened according to your desire, allowing the nice constant breeze that blows off the sea and through the beautiful picturesque valley and surrounding hills to help keep you cool whether your inside or outside sitting on the veranda. I personally cant think of anything more that anyone would want from holiday accommodation. You can walk to a beach within about 10 mins and there is a bus that stops at the end of the road. Although I would recommend hiring a car to get around because the buses dont come every 10mins. 5mins by car to the nearest supermarket which caters for all your food needs and then all the rest of the traditional stalls and shops continue on through out st Johns. There is a ferry that can be taken over to Barbuda and if you desire you can even get on a lait plane and visit the surrounding islands like Montserrat or Barbados. I would recommend this holiday cottage to everyone. its in a great place, beautiful area, great views, great beaches with a kind and caring host and the place it self is great. I stayed there for a month and enjoyed every second of every day and would stay there again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three weeks at the PinkHouse. Sonja was an exceptional hostess, being very accommodating and helpful. We especially appreciated the little touches, like leaving a loaf of Antiguan bread on Sunday mornings, bananas off her tree and mangos. I liked to sit outside on the porch and read and Sonja noticed and brought me over some cushions. A daily trip to one beach or another was assisted by the beach chairs supplied and she brought us over a cooler to take snacks in. I very much enjoyed my morning chats with Sonja, trading stories. The cottage is cozy, but still has all the amenities one needs. The beautiful trees and flowers give a real sense of serenity and I relished in the rest and relaxation the garden afforded. We absolutely would stay here again.
We had a wonderful holiday staying at the Pink Cottage. Sonja was really helpful and we loved the dogs..all so cute! The cottage was small but very well equipped. We would recommend a car as then it gives you freedom to explore the amazing Island of Antigua and explore the 356 beaches. We a brilliant holiday and really cant find fault with anything. Would recommend a trip to English Harbour and Shirley Heights.
My significant other and I stayed at this location over the Christmas holidays and into January 2013. We showed up to the location before check-in time and were feeling worried about inconveniencing the owner by doing so. Instead, Sonja greeted us with a very warm welcome, drinks, and stories while we moved our stuff into the cottage. The cottage is small but has everything you could ever need and is SPOTLESSLY clean. Every detail is accounted for and if theres something you need, Sonja is always very accommodating. We even had a cute little supply of welcome goodies to keep us going until we got to the store. The property is beautiful with blooming flower plants all around the cottage. Its great if you like dogs as she has several small breed dogs at the property who are always very excited to welcome guests "home." Sonja organized a horseback tour through the village for us and had tons of recommendations about where we should visit (and they always turned out to be good ones). We had a lovely time and cant wait to come back again in the future. If youre looking for a place with a sweet, down-to-earth owner, a quiet and pretty atmosphere, a place that is affordable, comfortable, and well-kept, this is it! Thank you for the hospitality and stress-free stay! J&M
We spent 5 weeks in Sonjas lovely little Pinkshack Cottage. Although small, it was very comfortable and had everything you need for a basic outdoorsy sort of holiday in Antigua. Sonja, the owner was so attentive and always ready to provide anything we wanted and wasnt already in the cottage. We managed for 2 weeks without a car, it was great to walk to the local beaches and only a short busride to St Johns, the nearest supermarket is only a few minutes away. We especially loved eating on the balcony in the mornings and evenings, and looked forward to coming home and having a lovely welcome from all Sonjas little dogs who became real friends. We would recommend this place to anyone who wants a simple uncomplicated holiday in Antigua
We totally loved this little place - its got everything you need and is kept immacuately. The bathroom is a little small, but its certainly not a complaint. Everything was of a very high standard - even the towels looked brand new. I would 100% stay here again and would recommend it to anyone. It is only a 3/4 minute drive from St Johns. So sorry we didnt get to say goodbye to the owner Sonya but we cant thank her enough and we would definitely stay here again. Sonya - thanks so much - its such a darling little place! We called it our little love nest! Hope to see you again - many thanks - Hilary & Adrian.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Pinkshack end May/beginning of June and had an amazing time! The place is really lovely, set back in a green garden in the country side of Antigua. This place is for relaxing and just enjoying life. The little house is surrendered by exotic trees and plants. It was really relaxing coming home from the beach and spend the evenings on the porch watching the humming birds. The are many beaches you can walk to from the place, within 15 minutes you can pretty much end up having your own beach. The owner Sonja is great! She helped us with everything/anything. We rented a car for two days and travelled around the island. Really recommend it since it was a lot of nice places to see. I would recommend this place to anyone, its amazing and absolutely perfect! x Linda and Dave
Well what can we say... Sonja the owner of the Pink Shack was so very helpful form the moment we made our booking and gave us lots of advise before we had even departed the UK. On arrival Sonja was there to pick us up which was great at the end of a long flight and arriving in a new country. Sonja made sure we popped by a supermarket to pick us the necessary supplies for our first night, gave us the number to arrange car hire which we must say worked out far more reasonable than pre booking from home. The Pink Shack was superbly presented and very quaint with everything one would need for a stay in Antigua. It was very welcoming and made us feel at home as soon as we got there. The property is set in a well maintained tropical garden in a secluded part of the island which had easy access to the capital and routes to the rest of the island. Sonja was full of useful information and would always go to extra lengths to provide us with what we needed or point us in the right direction to make our stay all we wanted. If there was something Sonja did not know the answer to, a couple of calls later, hay presto, there was the answer! All in all our stay was superb and we would not hesitate to recommend Sonja and the Pink Shack to anyone looking for a vacation in Antigua. We will always remember our stay and when we travel back to the Island we would not choose anywhere else but the Pink Shack. A must for all. Richard and Kate 4th – 16th June 2013
My wife Angela and I stayed at The Pink Shack in Antigua, and it was probably the best vacation weve had yet. We are both avid travelers, and of all the place weve been, Sonja at the pink shack was by far the most accommodating, and personable. It is a quiet cottage in the five islands, we rented a car and traveled the whole island, and we both agree that five islands is the best. The cottage is clean, homey, and you feel really comfortable as soon as you enter. Has a full kitchen and even a charcoal BBQ if your in the mood for a cook out! There is lots to explore nearby, and saint johns is a 2 minute drive away!! Sonja is really nice and will set up any excursions you may want to do. This was very helpful as there are lots of people that offer you these excursions at jacked up prices or try to rip you off.. Sonja has stayed and lived on the island for years and really knows what shes doing. We both love this woman, and love the pink shack. We will be going back soon and CANT WAIT!!! We recommend this place to EVERYONE
" Thank you for a lovely time at the Pinkshack, we thought the cottage was lovely and very cosy to stay in, we had everything we needed. Even though our two stays were short ones we have recommended you to all of our friends and colleagues who will be passing through Antigua on their way back to Europe... Thank you we have no hesitation in recommending your cottage ... P Hendriksen
