Apartment overview - owner's description

Visit Northumberland and discover the best Northumberland has to offer. Whatever your interest Northumberland can accommodate; this historic county has amazing castles such as Bamburgh, Walkworth, Alnwick and Dunstanburgh to name a few; country houses such as Cragside, Wallington and Belsay offer fantastic insight into the great industrial revolutionists of the area , such as Lord Armstrong.
Rothbury is situated adjacent to Cragside House which was the home of Lord Armstrong and was the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. Currently owned by the National Trust there is plenty to do for everyone. With one of the largest rock gardens in Europe Cragside House has an iron bridge, formal gardens, lakeside walks, adventure play area and labyrinth especially for the children.
Other National Trust properties in the area include Wallington, Dunstanburgh Castle, the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island.
A short journey from Rothbury you can find Alnwick Gardens and Alnwick Castle. The Castle is still the home of the Duke of Northumberland and has been used as a film location for films such as Harry Potter, Blackadder and Elizabeth.
The Northumberland coastline offers some fantastic sandy beaches such as Embleton and Alnmouth to either spend the day or simply have a leisurely walk along. Bamburgh Castle located near Seahouses offers a great insight into the turbulent history of Northumbria from medieval times to more recent history with Lord Armstrong's family.
Rothbury is situated on the outskirts of the Northumberland National Park and offers an excellent base in which to explore the beauty of the park. The National Park offers something for everyone whatever your interest. Walkers love this area because of the spectacular trails throughout the area.
Kielder Water is less than 30 miles away and has a range of activities including; walking trails, mountain biking trails, fishing, horse riding, water activities, wildlife and adventure activities. Whatever your preference Kielder is an ideal location for a daily excursion.

A relaxing week with the family. Walking, eating, playing games, it was great!

Nice clean and comfortable cottage in an excellent location. Not really an outlook from inside the cottage but when you step outside onto the cottage grounds you get wonderful views. Good response from owner to any communications we made.

First impressions on arrival were very positive: lovely, quiet location in private grounds.
Unfortunately, after unpacking we noticed that there were several issues that we felt needed addressing mainly concerning the cleanliness of this "luxury" cottage.
En-suite bedroom: light fitting is covered in thick dust and doesn't appear to have been cleaned for some time;
bottom drawer to chest of drawers collapsed on opening and all drawers were unusable as needed cleaning inside
(dust & hairs etc)

En-suite bathroom: large patch of black mould surrounding extractor fan and pull cord very dirty;
black mould to grouting and wall tiles and paint peeling off wall and ceiling. (black mould was cleaned but should
have been sorted prior to our arrival)
radiator not working.
Main bathroom: black mould to wall tiles and grouting, also grouting missing in places.

Twin bedroom: all drawers smelt musty and needed a clean and good airing (unusable).

Vacuum cleaner: Stinks ! Needs a good clean.

The above issues did spoil our stay somewhat, but if all these are attended to we would possibly consider returning.

While I'm very pleased to hear you enjoyed the location and the grounds I'm disappointed after meeting you to read your review. I apologised for the areas of grout in the bathroom that were discoloured and I scrubbed them clean as soon as the issue was brought up. The chest of drawers did not collapse on opening, the front of the bottom drawer was loose and I offered to fix this to which you replied that you didn't intend to use it so it didn't matter, so it was fixed at the next changeover. The remaining issues you did not raise with me while I was at the cottage or through the remaining part of your stay. The radiator you mention was not turned on. The drawers do not smell musty, they have a small drawer freshener in each one, perhaps you didn't like the smell. I always encourage guests to let me know if there's any issues I can attend to during their stay and I'm more than happy to do so.

Our 3rd time at Bluebell and still perfect even with an extra little one this time! Plenty of space, lots of storage for all those bits and pieces, extremely clean with clear covid instructions and stunning location. So much to do in the area too, we love it!

Stayed in Bluebell Cottage for a week with a couple of friends. The cottage was very comfy in a lovely peaceful setting. Plenty hot water, great kitchen, good wifi, Plenty parking, everything you need really. The cottage is furnished well, with comfy beds, a bit dated in certain areas but we didn't mind. The main bonus is that it was dog friendly and we don't expect spick and span with a dog so all in all it was excellent. Rothbury and Bluebell cottage was a great place to explore the surrounding areas, there are some lovely paths right from the door! There was no chopping board in the kitchen and the clocks needed new batteries but that's all I could fault it for. We will definitely look at booking again. All in all for the price a solid 8/10 from us all.
