House overview - owner's description
Priory House is a very unique country house. The imposing façade of this Grade II listed Georgian house conceals a fascinating interior filled with light, colour and exotic eccentricities. The creation of the owners, a sculptor and a fashion designer, combines their passions to create a truly visual experience. There are two beautiful en-suite bedrooms in the main house, and next to it is the brewhouse, an original Elizabethan Lincolnshire longhouse that offers romantic and unique additional accommodation.
The house is set on 1.5 acres of private grounds on the edge of the popular village of Long Bennington. The 2 properties together create a great weekend retreat for up to eight guests. It also provides a superb and somewhat quirky location for photography, fashion, film and TV. The owners love to share their home and ensure that guests find the house as relaxing or exciting as they desire.
The imposing fascade conceals a fascinating interior, filled with light and colour and exotic excentricities. The property comprises two separate but neighbouring buildings, the Gerogian House and the Elizabethan longhouse.
The Longhouse: The Grade II listed Elizabethan Lincolnshire Longhouse sits next to the imposing stone Georgian Priory House, noted by TV appearances featuring its unusual interior.
Huge chestnut, oak and beech trees welcome you through the leafy wooded drive. Formerly the house would have provided ales to Priory House and its servants and it is now a romantic hideaway with a touch of baronial splendour and oodles of exotica. Relax in the flower filled conservatory. The spacious oak beamed living room combines the comfort ofcosy sofas with antique furniture and ethnic art. Curl up in front of the fire and the 42” plasma TV. A traditional Persian carpet softens the medieval style terracotta floor. A pretty little French chandelier illuminates the dining table and leopard skin curtains from the famous Biba’s in the 1970s provide extra warmth and privacy.
The Inglenook fireplace features a log burning stove. An intricately carved Indian screen covers one wall. A cast iron spiral staircase takes you to the minstrel’s gallery bedroom and a secret door in the screen leads to the kitchen and shower room. The Indian theme is continued in the designer built kitchen, incorporating an Edwardian brown glazed sink and a brand new Rangemaster cooker with ceramic hob. You will find everything you need including some basic provisions and condiments in the store cupboard. The shower room features a separate WC and the original decorated Victorian hand basin.
