Visit Northumberland and discover the best Northumberland has to offer. Whatever your interest Northumberland can accommodate; this historic county has amazing castles such as Bamburgh, Walkworth, Alnwick and Dunstanburgh to name a few; country houses such as Cragside, Wallington and Belsay offer fantastic insight into the great industrial revolutionists of the area , such as Lord Armstrong.
Rothbury is situated adjacent to Cragside House which was the home of Lord Armstrong and was the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. Currently owned by the National Trust there is plenty to do for everyone. With one of the largest rock gardens in Europe Cragside House has an iron bridge, formal gardens, lakeside walks, adventure play area and labyrinth especially for the children.
Other National Trust properties in the area include Wallington, Dunstanburgh Castle, the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island.
A short journey from Rothbury you can find Alnwick Gardens and Alnwick Castle. The Castle is still the home of the Duke of Northumberland and has been used as a film location for films such as Harry Potter, Blackadder and Elizabeth.
The Northumberland coastline offers some fantastic sandy beaches such as Embleton and Alnmouth to either spend the day or simply have a leisurely walk along. Bamburgh Castle located near Seahouses offers a great insight into the turbulent history of Northumbria from medieval times to more recent history with Lord Armstrong's family.
Rothbury is situated on the outskirts of the Northumberland National Park and offers an excellent base in which to explore the beauty of the park. The National Park offers something for everyone whatever your interest. Walkers love this area because of the spectacular trails throughout the area.
Kielder Water is less than 30 miles away and has a range of activities including; walking trails, mountain biking trails, fishing, horse riding, water activities, wildlife and adventure activities. Whatever your preference Kielder is an ideal location for a daily excursion.

The apartment was spacious and has a fabulous view, and there was an excellent welcome pack which included milk, eggs and bread. However, there were a number of issues that spoilt things a little. There were areas the cleaners had missed - for instance, the oven gloves were still dirty from the last occupants, the only kitchen hand towel was lying on the floor by the fridge soaking up spills, and the freezer wasn't very clean. The kitchen wasn't very well-equipped for cooking proper meals (e.g. no steamer, and only a small fine grater that took ages to grate enough cheese). And the master bathroom smelt of smoke. None of this ruined the holiday, but it did contrast with the attention to detail of the owners of the cottage we'd stayed in in Yorkshire the previous week.

Perfect location with excellent views over the river and golf course from the sitting room and main bedroom.We had the pleasure of staying for 7 nights in April 2017. The apartment Cheviot View was fully equipped with the added benefit of a log fire. A bit tired in places but nothing to affect our enjoyment.
We set of most mornings to different interesting places around Rothbury and had walks from the house in the evenings.
We had been in Rothbury 2 years ago and were looking forward to our return visit where the village was just a lovely as we remembered. We hope to return to Rothbury in the future.
Comfortable bed, fabulous views, well equipped, lovely and warm. Garden is not strictly enclosed as the drive opens onto a lane. Would stay again
We had a fantastic week staying at Cheviot View, the property was very clean with high end fixtures and fittings. The rooms were all very large with plenty of space for us and would easily have accommodated 4 people. The log burner in the living room made it feel very warm and cosy, and the heating kept the apartment a good temperature during our chilly week. Our dog loved the space of the apartment and exploring outside in the spacious grounds.
The kitchen was very well equipped, completely spotless and had every thing we could possibly need for our stay. It was great to see the owner had included many more cups, glasses, plates, utensils etc than 4 - this makes life much easier. There was also a lovely welcome pack with bread, tea, milk, tea cakes, and scones.
The owner was very good when we mislaid the keys to the apartment and appeared within minutes with a spare set (the original set was recovered).
The area is so beautiful we will definitely be back to explore more!
The property was as described on the internet. A very comfortable property. Lots to do in the area. We will definitely come and stay here again.
