Whatever your interest Northumberland can accommodate; this historic county has amazing castles such as Bamburgh, Walkworth, Alnwick and Dunstanburgh to name a few; country houses such as Cragside, Wallington and Belsay offer fantastic insight into the great industrial revolutionists of the area , such as Lord Armstrong.
Rothbury is situated adjacent to Cragside House which was the home of Lord Armstrong and was the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. Currently owned by the National Trust there is plenty to do for everyone. With one of the largest rock gardens in Europe Cragside House has an iron bridge, formal gardens, lakeside walks, adventure play area and labyrinth especially for the children.
Other National Trust properties in the area include Wallington, Dunstanburgh Castle, the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island.
A short journey from Rothbury you can find Alnwick Gardens and Alnwick Castle. The Castle is still the home of the Duke of Northumberland and has been used as a film location for films such as Harry Potter, Blackadder and Elizabeth.
The Northumberland coastline offers some fantastic sandy beaches such as Embleton and Alnmouth to either spend the day or simply have a leisurely walk along. Bamburgh Castle located near Seahouses offers a great insight into the turbulent history of Northumbria from medieval times to more recent history with Lord Armstrong's family.
Rothbury is situated on the outskirts of the Northumberland National Park and offers an excellent base in which to explore the beauty of the park. The National Park offers something for everyone whatever your interest. Walkers love this area because of the spectacular trails throughout the area.
Kielder Water is less than 30 miles away and has a range of activities including; walking trails, mountain biking trails, fishing, horse riding, water activities, wildlife and adventure activities. Whatever your preference Kielder is an ideal location for a daily excursion.

We had a fantastic week staying at Cheviot View, the property was very clean with high end fixtures and fittings. The rooms were all very large with plenty of space for us and would easily have accommodated 4 people. The log burner in the living room made it feel very warm and cosy, and the heating kept the apartment a good temperature during our chilly week. Our dog loved the space of the apartment and exploring outside in the spacious grounds.
The kitchen was very well equipped, completely spotless and had every thing we could possibly need for our stay. It was great to see the owner had included many more cups, glasses, plates, utensils etc than 4 - this makes life much easier. There was also a lovely welcome pack with bread, tea, milk, tea cakes, and scones.
The owner was very good when we mislaid the keys to the apartment and appeared within minutes with a spare set (the original set was recovered).
The area is so beautiful we will definitely be back to explore more!
The property was as described on the internet. A very comfortable property. Lots to do in the area. We will definitely come and stay here again.
I have already sent a review . the property was everything that your website stated and more we could not fault it. I have already recommend it to several friends, we will use the property again at a later date.
We shared this accommodation with friends for the weekend and it turned out to be every bit as good as the website/pictures/previous reviews. It is very spacious, well decorated, clean and equipped. There was even a small basket of 'goodies' when we arrived - tea, bread etc. The view frim the front of the house is excellent and we enjoyed watching the wildlife out on the lawns. The walk to town is only 15 minutes and Rothbury is a very nice place with some nice pubs etc. We would definitely stay again if visiting the area.
The apartment was beautiful,very spacious & well equipped as advertised.. Unfortunately we did not experience good weather until our last day at the property, so could not appreciate the wonderful views until then. We found the property was a bit further out of the village of Rothbury than tha advert had suggested, as well as up a fairly steep incline. Okay if you are good walkers but none of us were, so we had to use the car every evening to go for a meal. Rothbury village was excellent & had all we required. The people were so friendly & helpful to us. We were only there for four days but they were a delightful four days and we should all love to go back there providing some nice dry weather can be guaranteed!!
