Our 2nd visit here and love it.You access the apartment through the main Front door and then go down 2 flights of stairs to the back of the house where French doors open on to a walled garden. The lounge/sleeping area is large with a comfortable bed , a sofa,TV with Sky ,an iPod dock and table with 2 chairs . There is a dressing room with a washer/dryer A small kitchen with full oven ,fridge,microwave toaster and cooking pots etc. Every thing that you would need is in the apartment even down to a small 1st aid box. It is in a Quiet location but with plenty of bars and restaurants near by and just a 5/10 min walk to Princes St.(uphill) .

The apartment was in an excellent location. The bed was very comfortable. Evelyn was easy to deal with.

The one major drawback was the entrance to the apartment, down two flights of dreary steps, with a smell of mold. Not a good first impression. Also, we were not able to leave our luggage there before checking in which is the first time that I have encountered that.

Overall, a nice apartment that could be nicer.

We very much enjoyed this apartment. It was well located, quite, cozy and well appointed. Just as advertised.
We had problems getting the TV to work properly, but maybe it was just that we were not familiar with the controls.

Wir haben uns wirklich sehr wohl gefühlt in diesem Apartment. Schon die freundliche Begrüßung durch Evelyn war ein guter Start. Zunächst waren wir überrascht, dass wir zwei Treppen tiefer in den Keller mussten, doch auf dieser Seite lag das Apartment dann ebenerdig mit Zugang zum Gärtchen. Außer der Doppelglastür zum Garten gibt es keine weiteren Fenster. Die Wohnung hat alles, was das Herz begehrt, auch die Küche ist gut ausgestattet. Einziger Nachteil: Sie ist so winzig, dass man sich kaum drehen kann, so dass wir davon Abstand nahmen, uns dort warme Mahlzeiten zu bereiten. Konsequenterweise ist dann auch der Esstisch nur gerade groß genug für ein Frühstück. Dafür ist die Dusche recht geräumig. Der Internetzugang ist sehr bequem. Wir haben kaum den Bus gebraucht, denn die meisten Dinge sind gut zu Fuß zu erreichen. Die Wohnung ist besonders für Paare zu empfehlen, die einfach die Stadt erkunden möchten.

The good points of this apartment are: the price is reasonable compared to Edinburgh hotel rooms, it is in an upscale neighbourhood and it was very nice to be given a bottle of wine at check-in. However, there were some frustrations. To enter the apartment, you have to descend two levels and use either three or four keys. Admittedly, you end up level with the back yard but it still feels like you are deep in the basement. In general, the web info overstates the level of luxury. The actual furnishings seemed to me to be generally good but not spectacular. In fact, the bathroom sink is very small and therefore hard to use and the bathroom mirror is actually two small mirrors attached at right angles which I found very unusual. To access the back yard, you have to deal with an iron bar which a large sign tells you to handle carefully. There was only one small table in the apt and once I put our laptop on it there was no surface to eat at. However, the kitchen, though small, has all one needs (but no table).

We were told that all necessary info was in the big manual but the instructions for the TV made no sense. Evelyn straightened that out on the second morning by email. We also had trouble getting our clothes out of the locked combined washer/dryer. Perhaps Europeans are used to such contraptions. Evelyn just referred us to the operating manual which was hard to figure out. In retrospect, I dont think the 30 pound nonrefundable deposit is appropriate or justified. The apt is not full of expensive antiques at risk of breaking. Finally, although the apt qualifies as "central" in practise it is too far from the main Royal Mile sights to walk back to for a short break.

My partner and I had a week staying in the Playfair Garden Apartment at the start of September 2014 and really enjoyed our time there.

The apartment is in a great location in New Town, its nice and quiet yet close enough to hop on a bus or have a stroll into the centre of Edinburgh.

It was perfect for us as a couple with a well appointed kitchen if we didnt want to eat out, a sofa to curl up on and the bed was so comfy.

Evelyn was very accommodating and met us on our arrival, she showed us round the place and had left some supplies so we could have a cuppa without having to nip to the shops. She had also laid on one or two other items but that will have to remain a surprise for any future guests reading this review.

Overall we could not fault the apartment, it was a great base for exploring the wonderful city of Edinburgh and I would definitely look to stay here next time were in town.

This is a great place to stay in Edinburgh. Located in a quiet zone, its near to the principal streets and monuments of the city. You can be in Princess Street in five minutes by feet. The apartment is very comfortable and has everything needed for a perfect rest after long walks through the city. (Big comfortably bed, a small but useful bathroom as well as the kitchen, full equiped, and the main room which have all the modern facilities availables). The owner was very kind with us and very concerned to explain all the details of the apartment.
