Cottage overview - owner's description

Garden Cottage is a traditional stone built cottage at the heart of our Estate, 9 miles from St Andrews. 2 bedrooms+cot, free wi-fi, central heating. Short breaks - 3 nights 60%, 4 nights 70%, etc.

Sleeps 4 +baby. 2 bedroom beautiful, traditional stone built cottage set in our country estate nr Cupar in Fife. Free wi-fi. The tennis court is about 50 yards from the cottage and guests are welcome to use it by arrangement. The cottage has its own garden and overlooks a paddock and duck pond. It's an idyllic, peaceful setting and a perfect base for exploring beaches, historic Fife or to enjoy its many golf courses. Plenty of space for the children to play.Garden Cottage is right in the heart of our country estate in Fife, about 9 miles from St Andrews and its many golf courses, and we look forward to welcoming guests to our pretty cosy cottage. The cottage is detached, two storey, and set in its own garden, with a lawn to the front, and grass to the back, with woodlands at the side. It is sits on a private road, which is only used by cottage guests, and the very occasional tractor working on the estate. It is a peaceful place, with lots of traditional charm. Inside the cottage has a sitting room, dining room, kitchen and cloakroom with toilet on the ground floor, and upstairs, there is a bathroom which has a lovely showerbath, with fixed screen and power shower, toilet and basin, as well as 2 bedrooms - one with a double bed, the other with 2 twin beds. The beds are handmade by a local craftsman, from our own timber, and are made up with comfy toppers are cosy duvets. If you prefer hypoallergenic bedding or blankets, please let us know at the time of booking. There is also a full size cot, and we are happy to supply bed linen and towels for your baby. The sitting room is comfortable and well equipped, with an open fire for the chillier times of year, or even just for the fun of having a crackling log fire burning in the evening. What a great way to spend a comfortable evening. The sitting room has 2 big sofas, lots of cushions and free-sat television. There is also a DVD player and ipod docking station with radio. If you would like us to put a selection of DVDs into the cottage for you, just let us know! The cottage also has full central heating. The dining room can easily accommodate 4 or even 6 at the table, and there is also a piano. The kitchen is fully equipped with a cooker, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine/tumble dryer and microwave. Outside the garden is stocked with flowers and herbs. The woodland and adjacent stream are often visited by deer, especially in the early morning, and as the kitchen overlooks the woods, you might be lucky enough to see a deer while you make your morning tea. In front of the cottage, in an open grassy area, is our duck pond, which has many wild ducks. In the spring, there are also many ducklings, swimming in line behind their mothers. We are also regularly visited by Harry the Heron, and very occasionally, by otters.
In May, we host the Fife Agricultural Show in some of our fields. This is far enough away from the cottage that you will hardly notice it, but if you want to visit, there is lots to see and do, with show jumping, cattle, sheep and horse shows, as well as all sorts of traditional Scottish exhibitions and displays. Near to our house, about 100 yards from the cottage, is our tennis court, and guests are welcome to use it by arrangement. If you don't have room in your luggage to bring rackets, just let us know, and we'll provide some. Further afield, there is so much to see and explore in Fife. The Open Golf comes to St Andrews regularly, and was back again in July 2015. St Andrews itself has much to see, from St Rules Tower, the Castle and the other historic areas. On the Fife Coast, there are the pretty East Neuk villages, such as Anstruther, and Pittenweem, and the Pittenweem Art Festival is not to be missed. The beach and forest at Tentsmuir is well worth a visit. Even in high summer the long white beaches are clean and quiet, and seals can often be seen basking in the sun ( the sun does actually shine quite a lot in Scotland - contrary to common belief!!). Edinburgh is only an hour away by train or car, with the Edinburgh Festival in August, and so many sights and shops to see and visit.

The cottage also has free wi-fi internet access for guests to use. The cottage is about 9 miles from St Andrews, and so is perfect for golfers, or for visitors to the University. The cottage has a lawn and garden area to the front, with mature plants. At the side there is rougher ground and woodland. For small children we have a Little Tikes play area. It has slides and short ladders. A BBQ is provided for you to do some outdoor cooking.

It really is our pleasure to welcome you to Garden Cottage, and we will do our best to make your stay in Fife a happy memorable one. We take short breaks from 3 nights, and longer bookings. If you can't see a rate for the period you're interested in, please ask. We look forward to hearing from you!

The Black Family Jul 2016

My wife, two sons and myself spent 5 nights at the cottage and enjoyed it very much. It is about a fifteen minute drive to St. Andrews. It was very nice to have all the comforts of home to go to each night. We really enjoyed being out in the country, watching the chickens, guineas, and even pheasants walk thru the yard. Margo was very helpful answering all my questions prior to arrival and also having fresh bread, fruit and snacks on our arrival. Cuper is a nice town to explore with several restaurants nearby. I would highly recommend this property and will probably return on another trip

The cottage was as described on the site. It was in a peaceful and tranquil place. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. The fresh flowers were really appreciated. The owners were helpful prior to and during our stay. It was in a great location to enjoy the Fife country side. We spent most of our time in St Andrews for our sons graduation. The drive there was easy and not too long. We did several walks and runs as described in the book on walks in the cottage. The longest being the walk from Crail to st andrews, along the coast. We got fish and chips from the local place in town one evening and also ate at The Grange Inn, just outside st andrews. Great food and very friendly people. Beautiful location on a hill just above St Andrews. We also enjoyed a meal outside at The jigger inn, right next to the 17 on the old course. Lovely views from here. We booked everywhere we ate in St Andrews in advance. It was a busy week there. The only downside to our trip was the exit from Europe vote! We even ended up in a bar with Boris Johnson in St Andrews!
