Wonderful accommodation, fabulous views and grounds leading to the estuary and Aldeburgh. Tony and Debbie were most welcoming and helpful. Would definitely return.
We had a lovely stay despite freezing weather, snow, ice and a ferocious east wind. We did not move the cars for a whole week. Snow drifts blocked surrounding roads and the trains were not running. However we were very peaceful, warm, comfortable and in beautiful surroundings, even if the weather was a bit wild! Tony and Debbie could not have been more helpful and their dog even took himself off for a walk with me one day.
Thank you. hopefully next year we shall have a 'Spring' holiday over 1 March, which is actually the official first day of Spring, though this year it was about -5 and there were ice floes on the estuary.
The cottage was perfect for our needs, which was to enjoy country walks from the cottage with the dog. It was great to have use of the owners grounds - the views are exceptional over the estuary. Tony and Debbie were very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive.
We had a thoroughly marvellous time at Beaver Cottage. Debbie and Tony could not have been more helpful and friendly (offering us the use of their own freezer as the cottage fridge/freezer could not cope with our dogs frozen meat!) and Jesse the dog became firm friends with our 2 whippets, coming for walks with us around the vast grounds. We were lucky enough to be there for three weeks so the cottage became home. It had just about everything needed for our convenience. The modern kitchen and bathroom are very stylish. The beds comfortable and linens of great quality. We did have a quick chat with Debbie and Tony to give them feedback about some things which affected us (due to us being there for an extended time) which would not normally be an issue at all for anyone staying for a week or two. For example we had loads of clothes to cover all weather conditions and we could really have done with more storage space. I used the wardrobe in the master bedroom and my husband (and a couple of friends who came for five days) used the hanging rail in the single room. If all three bedrooms had been in use we would have struggled for hanging space. I know Debbie is looking to see if another wardrobe could be accommodated in one of the other bedrooms. We could also have done with more saucepans as we did have to cook being there for three weeks. That said, we managed and everything was absolutely fabulous. The grounds are to die for, especially if you have children and/or dogs. There are many nooks and crannies with seating such as the gypsy caravan, the summer house and the wooden gazebo. You have the use of kayaks on the lovely atmospheric river Alde at the bottom of the garden. We picked huge parasol mushrooms and made soup, we picked apples from the orchard and made blackberry and apple pie. It’s a forager’s dream. The Aldeburgh area was beautiful, not commercialised at all and many of the fabulous local restaurants allowed our dogs in. The smokeries on the beach were a regular ‘go to’ for us. The walk into Thorpeness we did regularly and thoroughly enjoyed it. We did all the usual trips to Southwold, Framlingham Castle, Orford etc. We were also fortunate enough to be there for the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival at Snape Maltings which is highly recommended. We will definitely return and are missing Debbie, Tony and Jesse very much already. We were made to feel like family.
Perfect place to enjoy area with added bonus of extensive grounds to explore.
