Villa Sophia is a luxury, detached villa on a small complex of 23 villas, the Azelea Villas, right in the centre of Yalikavak. Most of the villas in the centre of the village are residential, and not available for holiday rental. The majority of holiday rental properties are well out of the village, high up on the hillsides, making car rental a necessity. Our villa is in a flat area making it ideal for push chairs and the less able. It is less than 10 minutes stroll along the flat to the sandy beach and village centre. Here you will find a beautiful old, unspoilt harbour with a variety of shops and restaurants.
It is set in landscaped gardens and shares a large swimming pool and separate childrens pool with the other villas on this small complex. The villa sits at the edge of the development and has beautiful views of the surrounding hills and mandarin groves from its large roof top terrace and first floor balcony. It is west facing and so gets the evening sun. Super for an evening drink on the balcony.
Downstairs there is a large open plan living space providing a well equipped kitchen area with barbecue terrace, dining area with large dining table and chairs as well as a sitting room with TV (no broadcast channels), DVD player and hi fi system. There is a large ground floor terrace leading out from the sitting room which provides a lovely outdoor eating area. As the villa is set back a little from the pool, this is very private and not overlooked. The ground floor also features a spacious cloakroom and toilet.
On the first floor the master (double) bedroom has an ensuite shower room and its own private balcony. Relaxing chairs and a table are provided making it a lovely place to finish the day.The second bedroom provides twin accommodation. The third bedroom has a set of full size bunkbeds. There is also a foldup bed, if required, for a seventh person. The main family bathroom is also on this floor. There are mosquito screens in the bedrooms for your comfort at night.
The stairs lead up further to the spacious roof top terrace with spectacular panoramic views.
The villa is beautifully finished to a very high standard. As it is used as our own holiday home it is better equipped than would be expected. We have decorated it with original paintings and artwork, giving it that special touch. It has plenty of wardrobe and other storage space.
Wi-Fi internet is connected to the villa complex. This is FREE for you to use . However, we have no control over it and cannot guarantee its availability.
We understand the difficulties of travelling with young children/babies, especially with the current luggage restrictions. To this end, we provide the following items:
Baby cot (with linen),high chair,childrens crockery/cutlery, potty.
We can supply nappies on request (extra charge payable locally).
PLEASE NOTE - the maximum capacity of the villa is 7 plus one baby in the cot. Unfortunately the system is not yet able to accommodate this. If your party is 8 including a baby in the cot please contact me.
We reserve the right to withold your damages deposit should there be evidence of smoking or overoccupancy.

Yalikavak is a traditional Turkish fishing village on the northern (quieter and less commercialised) coast of the Bodrum Peninsula. It has yet to appear in the mainstream travel brochures and so is a perfect retreat for those more discerning of travellers, looking for a quieter holiday but in easy reach of the hustle and bustle of Bodrum. The Bodrum Peninsula has a wonderful bus (dolmus) service with regular buses serving all the different resorts. A car is therefore unnecessary. If you really want to explore though, it is easy to arrange car hire either in advance or locally.
Although Yalikavak has its own sandy beaches you might want to explore some of the others nearby. There are so many that you hardly need visit the same one twice.
Yalikavak itself has some wonderful restaurants, naturally specialising in local seafood. There are many other restaurants easily accessible around the coast. There are also many bars in Yalikavak, but for more active night life visit some of the nearby neighbouring resorts.

Further afield
The Bodrum Peninsula is one of the most beautiful parts of Turkeys Aegean Coast. There are numerous small fishing villages and resorts around the coast, each with their own individual character. There are many beaches to choose from both with and without watersports, to suit all tastes. Please see our photo gallery for examples. There are boat trips to be had from many of these harbours. Both Bodrum and Yalikavak have marinas. For those wishing to partake in a little more serious yachting, yacht charter is available.
Those wishing to venture a bit further might like to take the ferry across from Bodrum to the Greek island of Kos or the beautiful Datca Peninsula.
There are many land based places to visit. These include Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the stunning pools at Pamukkale, the royal rock tombs at Dalyan, the temple of Apollo at Didim or St. Peters Castle, built by the crusaders, in Bodrum itself.

Luxury detached villa, right in the centre of Yalikavak. Only 10 mins flat walk to the beach.Fully air-conditioned and beautifully furnished. Cot and highchair provided.

The Villa was clean and tidy the surroundings and pool were great, the security staff were excellant and very helpfull. Although a little overpriced the Villa was just big enough for a family of 6. The Villa is in a nice position away from the pool and has of privacy. However there is a very dangerous road that leads to the town, yes it is ten mins flat walk but you would need to be extremly carefull with on coming traffic ,especially with children and and elderley like we were, I would not advise walking in the dark as we found out it was life threatening at times, so we used Taxis on a regular basis. The management staff are very helpfull but also on the negative side they were a little to keen on just walking in the Villa and telling you not to use aircon with doors open! which happened twice when we were having a few small problems and we needed assistance. We did only use aircon as we were told! but were charged extra 40 pounds because we used aircon to much! or so we were told! So be very cautious ,as were not warned off this one of the main reasons for renting a vlla with aircon was our priority.
Owner reply:

The villa is very spacious for six/seven people. There were only five people in your party. Under occupancy may have made it seem a little overpriced. The road in question is not a busy road, with rarely two vehicles travelling in opposite directions at the same time. You only have to walk along it for a short distance. All roads in Turkey are dangerous and you always have to be very careful. The local manager visited you in the villa several times, at your request. Air-conditioning is included in the price of the villa. Information is given to guests about the correct use of it to try to prevent wasting electricity. The manager had to ask you repeatedly to take care when using the aircon. In six years of renting out the villa we have never had to make any kind of charge before for overuse of the aircon. You were not actually charged anything for the excessive use of aircon, a deduction was made from your damages deposit for which you made a one-off payment of £25, as it was for other damage you caused during your stay.

Waaay too big for the two of us but loved the views and the weather was outstanding for October. Would recommend to friends
Owner reply:

It is perfectly clear in the advertisement that the villa has three bedrooms and is a large villa for 6 people. I think it is unreasonable to give it a low star rating because you booked a villa that was too big for you.

This was a fantastic villa furnished to exceptional standards, the description of the villa was absolutely accurate and had many extras to feel like "home". The villa management company could not do enough to ensure our stay was enjoyable, and though we visited in peak season the complex was always quiet and tranquil. The setting was perfect for our 2 young boys with a brilliant pool and safe gardens. The added benefit of night security was also re-assuring. Overall we had a perfect holiday in a perfect location and a perfect resort! Thank you.

I thouht the holiday was a bit overpriced particularily because we could have rented villas on the same complex for a £100 less.We couldnt get access to the villa until 4pm having arrived in Yalli at 7.30 am with a small child,it was lucky that we had previously holidayed in yalli and had already made friends so they were able to luck after us until then .There were no basic essentials available for us to use in the villa ,this we have never experienced before on any of our holidays abroard.
Owner reply:

Your party was changed from 5 to 4 people at the last minute. The villa sleeps up to 7 people. This will always make accommodation seem more expensive. There may have been other villas available cheaper, which you could have booked instead, if you had wished. They are advertised on the same websites as mine. The arrival/departure times are clearly stated in the information provided before you booked. You declined the offer to book an extra night at the beginning of your stay, which would have allowed you entry to the villa at 730am. The villa is very well equipped as a self-catering holiday home. Im not sure what "basic essentials" you are referring to for a weeks holiday.

Positives-This villa was in a nice complex with lovely gardens and pool and was a great size for a family. It was well placed for the town and beach and there was a brilliant market on the Thursday. The security and garden staff were delightful and the management company were very helpful. Negatives- We visited at the end of the season and the villa would benefit from some general minor maintenance eg sofa cushions ready for cleaning and curtain tie backs falling out of the wall. However these were only minor points and we had a lovely holiday.
Owner reply:

Thank you for your helpful comments. The cream sofa cushions on the sofas are cleaned at the end of each season. General maintenance is also done at the end of each season. UPDATE: the sofa cushions have been replaced in June 2011.

"Just to say how much we enjoyed visiting the Villa Sophia. Thank you for everything." - Robert Meech, September 2006
"We had a lovely holiday thanks and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the villa." - Kevin Horrocks, August 2006
Had a fantastic week, gardens need to mature to make the setting. Furnished very well.
Fabulous location for a good family holiday. Lived up to all our expectations and more. The villa and its location were accurately portrayed by the owner, and the complex offered a safe environment for children - even for our Down syndrome daughter (a first for us!). Would recommend it highly to families.
