House Location

The house is in a village named Kuzdere, which is only 9km from the Mediterranean resort town of Kemer. Apart from the calling from the nearby mosques, (which one soon gets used to) it is a very quite and relaxing house. The area surrounding the house is ideal for walking, hiking and mountain bike riding. It is very green with many fruit trees growing all around. In the season you can pick oranges from the bedrooms & patio. This general area of the Mediterranean is known as the Monte Carlo of Turkey. It is very green with pine forests covering large areas, from the sea to high up in the mountains. Although this is a Muslim country there are no restrictions on drink or dress code. This is a very liberal, peaceful and safe area to walk around..

If you like climbing, hiking, walking or mountain bike riding there are excellent trails that lead up into the nearby mountains. An approx 25mins walk will take you over to a 1st class horse ranch, which offers both instruction for the novice and guided tours up into the mountains. From the house it is a short 10mins walk to the local bus stop, where you can catch a bus into Kemer. It takes approx 1 hour to walk into the center of Kemer. In Kemer you can catch a bus or coach too many different places of interest including Istanbul. This journey takes around 11hrs by an air-conditioned coach, whereas a plane from Antalya takes approx 45mins. You can catch a bus over to the city of Antalya; the journey takes approx 50mins with the road offering spectacular sea & mountain views. Bus and coach fares here are very reasonable, with it being much cheaper to catch the bus to Antalya than to go by car. There are two beaches in Kemer, one being of pebbles the other being sandy, both being clean and the sea safe to swim in. Friends, who came out on holiday, stated that the water here was clearer than it was in Antigua. There are a variety of sea activities including swimming, diving, sailing, paragliding and fishing. You can book on a variety of trips out, including a day trip on a Gullet (wooden boat) that goes out to Three Islands, before calling in on the way back to the historic city of Phaselis. This is a beautiful site was made famous by Alexandra the Great, he apparently liked it so much that he stayed there for two years. Apart from the ancient ruins that in themselves are well worth a visit, it also has three fabulous sandy beaches.

Kemer itself is not a very large town, having a fixed population of approx 12,000, during the summer months however it is very busy and full of holidaymakers. In Kemer and the surrounding villages there are very few foreigners who live here permanently. There are however, many holiday homes in the area that are mainly owned by Norwegian, English & German nationals. For shopping the best buys in town are high quality leather, and gold & silver jewelry, but as in most places in Turkey one has to barter to get a good price. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from offering a large variety of European, as well as traditional Turkish dishes. Apart from a number of bars that usually have live music, there are a couple of very good discos. There is an excellent marina situated at the bottom of town, which is always very busy both in & out of season. Each year around the month of May, the town of Kemer hosts a yacht rally that attracts a large number of participants from various countries.
