Cottage overview - owner's description

The Kaya Cottages are two restored cottages in Turkish Mediterranean style with pool in the idyllic rural village of Kayakoy on the "Turquoise Coast". A beautiful and relaxing, holiday getaway.

The Smokehouse Cottage

The Smokehouse is a large one bedroom stone built cottage with tiled floors throughout, whitewashed walls and wooden beamed ceilings.

As you enter the Smokehouse you pass through the rustic blue Cottage style kitchen area with a dining area and decorative fireplace. The verandah and outside dining area are just off the kitchen.

You then enter a spacious living room with large Turkish style fireplace, and two day beds perfect for relaxing or to sleep extra guests. A simple music player, games and a collection of books are available for guests use. This room acts as a perfect separate bedroom during summer months when the family will spend time in outdoors areas.

During cooler months a wood burning stove is installed and the room becomes a cosy haven after a days hiking or exploring. Perfect with a glass of red!

The bathroom has decorative blue tiling, basin, shower and hot water all year round.

The bedroom has an air-conditioning unit and ceiling fan, large built in cupboards and double doors opening onto a private terrace that has wonderful views of the Valley. A delightful breakfast spot.

Off the outside verandah is an outside shower room with a second WC.

The Smokehouse Cottage sleeps up to four guests in comfort.

The Kaya Cottages

Each cottage has a private area and the property is surrounded by gardens and a rustic stone wall.

Come to experience panoramic views of rolling hills and sweet scented pine forests with a mountainous backdrop. From the viewpoints above the Valley you can see the sea twinkling between the hills behind the abandoned Greek Village that forms the heart of Kayakoy.

At dusk you can relax in the Cottage grounds listening to the call to prayer echo around the Valley, the hum of the cicadas from the treetops or owls calling to each other.

The beautifully tiled pool area is raised above the property and overlooks the picturesque Kayakoy Valley. The pool area is flooded with sunshine all day then is lit up at night time for relaxing and star gazing or a midnight dip during balmy summer evenings.

Kayakoy is one place where you will find an unspoilt side of Turkey and experience Turkish culture and Village life. It is the perfect place to relax or to explore the forest trails, ruins and beaches and bays of the Turquoise Coast.

Neighbours can been seen tending to their animals and bustling about with domestic chores or collecting wood and herbs from the hillsides. A must is to sample their delicious home made yoghurt, cheese, honey, fresh Village eggs, olives, oils, jams and vinegars as well as a wonderful range of sun ripened fresh fruits and vegetables.

Visitors can find the hidden Monastery overlooking the Mediterranean, sample Turkish Cuisine and hospitality at nearby family owned restaurants or swim and chat with Turkish locals at Gemiler Beach amongst the many activities the area has to offer.

Kaya Village remains unspoilt by the mass tourism yet is easily accessible from Dalaman Airport (1 and 1/4 hr by transfer) and Fethiye Town (8km).

Kaya Village is located around the historic ruins of Levissi. Approx. 400 ruins of lie nestled against the hillside, forming a unique open-air museum. Levissi (or Karmylassos) was abandoned as part of a forced population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923. Exploring the site via worn pathways weaving between houses and churches is a wonderful experience.

The ruins of Levissi were the inspiration for the Louis De Berniere’s novel Birds Without Wings. Make sure you catch a glimpse from the pool area at Kaya Cottages.

My wife and I stayed in the smokehouse 24/9/16 for 7 days. The cottage is really lovely, very Turkish traditional feel about it., inside the kitchen is great with all you need, a very large living area with 2 comfy settees that can double up as single beds, bathroom with shower and a seperate double bedroom with loads of space for clothes etc. Only criticism is that the mattress was a little hard. Outside there is a good size plunge pool with seats and umbrellas . Around the cottage there are 3 balcony / sitting areas which were great for breakfast and late night drinks. Claire the owner was extremely helpful, and was always avalible if we needed her . I would recommend either the smokehouse or the stables if you want a nice peaceful relaxed holiday . We hired a car but it wasn't really needed as the dolmus stop was just over the road. There are lots of lovely places to eat and plenty of little " mini market " shops all within walking distance. Plus Gemlier beach was only a few mins down the road. Brilliant value for money.

Lovely peaceful location whilst handy for exploring the Fethiye/Olu Denis area. The cottage is well furnished, comfortable whilst being still traditional in character.

Only one word - amazing. Amazing in terms of location (surrounded by green valley with great views and beautiful pine trees and autumn flowers, short drive to the best beaches), amazing in terms of design and layout of old house (lovely furniture, rugs, fireplaces, tables and chairs - all in keeping with an old house, very good kitchen with all necessary utensils, pots and pans and cooking facilities for making authentic Turkish food (great local produce available)) and lovely terrace with pool - even in late October was good to be able to sit out in morning by pool in sun to have breakfast and to cool off when returning from day on beach or site-seeing

Might invest in microwave for kitchen - to help in those that cook to reheat left overs (pilafs, etc)

Excellent property and perfect host. Highly recommended.

We had a really wonderful holiday in this beautiful cottage, which is situated in a quiet village on the south coast of Turkey, near to Fethiye. Claire, the owner, is super friendly and incredibly helpful. She even secretly organised a cake for my wifes birthday. The cottage is really homely, with a lovely outdoor eating area and a private swimming pool and area to lie and soak up the sun. It is well equipped for cooking, has plenty of books (novels and local guides), and Scrabble. The bathroom is great, with a really strong hot shower, and theres plenty of space in the living area and kitchen.

There are loads of excellent restaurants within easy walking distance (most will pick you up and dro p you back if you dont fancy a stroll under the stars), including Cin Baal, which is an incredible restaurant specialising in lamb, where you can get a special booth to yourself and can cook you own delicious meat on a grill that they bring to your table - it is very cool.

The area is perfect for swimming, exploring ancient ruins, or accessing parts of the Lycian Way, which takes you along the breathtaking coast. The nearest beach, where you can hire kayaks and organise other activities is about 10 min drive away and other beaches are easily reached walking or by car.

Overall, the whole holiday was superb.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Smokehouse cottage. Clare was an excellent host - she left us to our own devices but was at the end of the phone or popped by every couple of days in case we needed anything. She was able to suggest days out, places to eat and there is information about the local area provided in the cottage pack. The setting is beautiful and very quiet. Cottage very comfortable and roomy for 2 people. Very clean pool which is swept every day and private. If you want to get away from it all but be well placed to explore this stunning part of Turkey then I would recommend staying here. The local Dolmus bus system is great too, although it is very safe to walk around as well.

The cottages were beautiful. Far more than what we expected. Claire was fantastic, providing lots of information on walks in the area and really going out of her way to help us. Whilst away from the tourist areas, this is a bonus. It is a wonderful place to relax after a day of seeing the sights or just to lounge by the pool! We used the public transport during our stay and we were there during off season and had no problems. There is plenty to do around Kaya Koy and places to eat what ever time of year you go. Truly an amazing find. Cant wait to go back.

Clean, well equipped.Great views. Claire the owner was friendly and very helpful indeed. No praise is too much for her efforts on our behalf. Top pool!

The cottage is exactly as described, but better than you can expect - the views up the valley, and the local environment make it a wonderful place to stay. Clare looked after us very well, making us feel a little part of the valley - and it really did feel like that after 10 days ! I would seriously recommend this for anyone wanting a get away form it all, warm, friendly, holiday, with the options of trips away, beach, town or mountain all within easy reach. We particularly liked the Village restaurant for local food, and Caspars for the turkish pancakes, and the ruins at Patara and Kandya made great day trips. At this time of year the flowers were wonderful - unexpected meadows of poppies in the vallay, and great natural rockeries on the slopes above & beyond Kaya "
