KALKAN, BEACHES, ADVENTURE and HISTORY
KALKAN a Mediterranean town on the beautiful Turkish Riviera sitting at the foot of the Taurus Mountains. It gently rises from the bay and can be reached on foot, by taxi boat or by taxi from Patara Prince. Kalkan is charming with brilliant blue crystal-clear sea, ancient history and warm traditional Turkish hospitality. Narrow cobbled streets, lined with many shops and boutiques wind their way down to the pretty harbour and small beach. Kalkan transforms at dusk as it begins to bustle with activity. An abundance of restaurants, many of them set on roof top terraces offer a culinary delight, with wonderful views over the bay of Kalkan.
Kalkan Market - Thursday is market day in Kalkan and it is well worth a visit for wonderfully Fresh Organic produce brought down from the mountains by villagers, who also sell their various crafts and Turkish rugs.and a chance to buy some presents for your loved one's at home and don't forget to buy some Turkish Delight for your work colleagues! You want a bargain then negotiate on price the Turks love it and don't give in at the first offer they make.
PATARA BEACH with miles of golden sand features regularly in brochures as one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful beaches and was recently voted the 2nd best beach in Europe by The Telegraph. Entrance to the beach is through the ruins of the ancient city of Patara, with a triumphal gate, baths, a theatre and a few temples. At sunset the beach is closed as it is one of the few places in the world where endangered Loggerhead turtles come to lay their eggs.
KAPUTAS BEACH a lovely sandy beach is nestled at the foot of a striking mountain gorge. The water is always a brilliant turquoise blue. Kaputas beach is about four and a half miles from Patara Prince and a dolomus from Kalkan will take you there in the summer months or hop in a taxi.
SAKLIKENT GORGE is the ideal place to visit if you are feeling especially hot. The gorge is 18km long and so steep and narrow that the sun does not penetrate, so the water is icy cold. The gorge is approached along a wooden boardwalk above the river and opens out to a series of wooden platforms suspended above the water, where you can buy and eat trout at one of the specialist restaurants.
PARAGLIDING tandem or solo; take a trip to Kas where there is an excellent and well known paragliding centre.
SUNKEN CITY OF KEKOVA - from Kalkan or Kas you can take a boat tour of the sunken city. Along the shore of Kekova Island are Byzantine foundations and ruins, partly submerged in the sea - the Sunken City. The boat will stop in a cove, so that you can swim and perhaps explore those ruins that are on land.
XANTHOS a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the six principal cities of Lycia. Xanthos was the capital city of the Lycian Federation and its greatest city for most of Lycian history. It was made famous to the Western world in the 19th century by its British discoverer Charles Fellows. It is very old - finds date back to the 8th century BC, but it is possible that the site may have existed during the Bronze Age or during the first centuries of the Iron Age.
LETOON was the sacred cult centre of Lycia; it's most important sanctuary and was dedicated to the three national deities of Lycia - Leto and her twin children Apollo and Artemis. Leto was also worshiped as a family deity and as the guardian of the tomb. Letoon lies 10 km to the south of Xanthos. Letoon and Xanthos are often seen as a "double-site", since the two were closely linked and Letoon was administered by Xanthos.
TLOS best known for its fortress-topped acropolis, with its rock-cut tomb-covered sides and its 360 degree panoramic views. As one of the six principal cities of Lycia (and one of the most powerful), Tlos once bore the title under the Roman empire of 'the very brilliant metropolis of the Lycian nation. It is one of the oldest and largest settlements of Lycia and was eventually inhabited by Ottoman Turks, one of the few Lycian cities to continue it's existence through the 19th century.

2 out of 2 people recommend staying here
We had a lovely 2 weeks in Mia Apartment. To get up every morning and have breakfast looking out to sea was perfect. We have been to Kalkan several times but this was our first visit to Patara Prince Resort, the place is full of character and the facilities are great. I would certainly recommend Mia Apartment and hope to return soon. Thank you
