Beautiful 4 bedroom villa in a spectacular bay 5 mins walk from sandy beach and restaurants. Spacious gardens and swimming pool.
This is an extremely spacious villa of 200 square metres covering three storeys and comprising 4 bedrooms (2 double and 2 twin). The downstairs double bedroom also features a sofa making it a suitable "family room" sleeping 4 people. (This brings the total number of people the villa can accommodate up to 10.)
The three first floor bedrooms have air conditioning whereas the downstairs bedroom and ground floor are cooled by ceiling fans. There are two bathrooms, each with a shower. From the first floor, stairs lead up to a large rooftop sun terrace which offers magnificent views of the local countryside and sea.
The ground floor is a substantial open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The kitchen is well equipped with a large fridge freezer, full-sized oven and hob, toaster, kettle and full set of pans, crockery and cutlery. The dining area seats 8 people and can be easily served from the kitchen. The lounge is roomy with comfy chairs by the fireplace, and a large sofa facing the TV and DVD player. The DVD player will also play CDs and MP3s so bring your own music and play it through the TV's speakers. A hammock hangs by the terrace door which you can take outside and attach to a tree and the terrace railings to relax in the garden.
Outside, the covered terrace is furnished with a dining table and chairs to seat up to 8 people - perfect for outside dining. The villa is part of a site of only 6 houses which share the pool and gardens, ours occupying a prime position overlooking the pool. The garden is generously spacious with plenty of lawn space and many beautiful flowers and trees. The whole grounds are maintained to a very high standard by the site manager who lives on the site and will be happy to help with any matters.
The villa is located just a five minute walk from the beach in the beautiful bay of Kucukbuk (meaning literally "little bay" and pronounced "koo-chook-book" except the "oo" sound should be short like a "u"). Despite new villas having been recently built in the area, sites are still separated sparsely enough to show plenty of natural greenery. The beach is sandy and has several restaurants which, in the evening allow you to dine on the beach or on the wooden jetties which protrude into the sea.
Kucukbuk is on the outskirts of the larger bay and village of Gundogan (pronounced "Goon-dhwan"). Gundogan is a 20 walk or 5 min drive and offers a greater selection of restaurants and shops, within a larger bay. Despite this, the village is largely unspoilt and has a rural feel with locals herding their cows through the streets and selling their home grown produce. Seafood is a speciality on the waterside restaurants and you will often see local fishermen selling their catches of the day directly to the restaurants. Gundogan also caters for many watersports such as sailing and windsurfing, and boat trips operate from here visiting local islands and bays further along the coast. (You can arrange to have them pick you up at Kucukbuk if you ask.)
Yalikavak is a 15 minute drive away and offers a good shopping street, a marina, beach, bars and restaurants. On the road between Gundogan and Yalikavak are two major supermarkets, Gima and Migros, where you can stock up on provisions.
At Ortakent (half-way between Yalikavak and Bodrum) is a large water park. It is opposite the KIPA hypermarket which is part of the Tesco chain and sells many well known Tesco products as well as local and international brands. Gumbet and Bodrum are only 30 minutes away for those want the busy night life and bustling resorts.
Also look out for the markets, typically the Turgutreis one on Saturdays. Yalikavak is usually on Thurdays and Gundogan on Wednesdays. There are no fixed prices so don't forget to haggle.
Hiring a car is the easiest way to get around, but you can manage without one. If you're staying for a few weeks you may like to save some money and shed the car for some of the time and use the local dolmas, or mini-bus service, which operates cheaply and efficiently throughout the peninsula. Yellow taxis are good for short journeys but can add up a bit on longer ones. Many people hitch around the area and it is not uncommon for lifts to be offered by drivers who are going the same way as you.
The Emerald Resort is a lovely place to stay. The facilities cater for everyone, young and old. There were always plenty of sun beds available and with a large pool area, a variety of spots to choose from. The weather was beautiful and the beach a short walk away and bars & resturants all within afew minutes walk. The language barrier was a little difficult at times but you can get by.
Ravda isnt a very busy place but a short bus journey away is Nessebar and the old town is lovely, further on from there is Sunny Beach and if you like a real buzzy atmosphere then this is for you but prices here are more expensive, having said that its still cheap. An average meal for 2 in Ravda with a bottle of wine & other drinks cost us at the most £25. Fantastic value for money in the right resturant.
The only down side if there is one is that the appartment although advertised as self catering, didnt really cater for this- with no kettle, bread knife, toaster or can opener, it didnt provide anywhere near enough to even make the basics as i expected so i was a little dissapointed not to have a cup of tea in the morning.
All in all a nice way to relax for a weeks break.

Thank you for your comments and we have taken them all on board!! We have added more cutlery; plates etc. as well as another electric kettle and toaster. Hopefully this will make for better facilities in the future alongside the many restaurants and bars around locally. Thanks Mike Hodgkinson

This is a fantastic place if you want a chill out holiday. Very peaceful location and local shops. Other villages and local supermarket are easy to get to without car hire by using the Dolmush (shared transport). If you want to go further afield a car would be necessary. People very friendly and plenty of restaurants to choose from. The only negative comment i have is that we emailed the owners to see if they could recommend a way to get a transfer from the airport and had no response. In the end we used travel republic to arrange transfer over the internet. The caretaker Ramasan speaks hardly any english but is very helpful/friendly and you can generally get across what you need to say. A big thanks to him!!!

The villa was wonderful [and] the complex was lovingly looked after by the site manager and his wife. We had a very relaxing time in comfort - just what we needed - we could not fault a thing - thankyou. - Sarah, May 2006
A selection of games (backgammon, chess, ludo etc.) are provided in the house. The grounds also provide fruit (depending on the time of year) such as lemons, mandarins, figs, olives and bananas which can be picked when ripe.
