Cottage overview - owner's description
Kaptan's Cottage is a newly restored enchanting 2 storey building 400 metres above the sea. A look-out balcony is ideal for a serene breakfast, watching early-bird yachts sailing by or blissful aperitifs with the sunset over a backdrop of mountains. The spacious garden is a panoply of olive trees and grape-vines - pick your own fruit as you will. It is possible for us to provide maid service and also to supply farm produce to guests staying here.
Kisla boasts its own beach. Little frequented and accessible on foot by a dirt road (30 minutes down, 45 minutes back!) or by 4 wheel drive vehicles (5 minutes). Iztuzu beach is a 10 minute drive and Dalyan only 20 minutes. There is also Ashikoy, an almost private deserted beach, 20 minutes away on rough country road.
A hire car or jeep is a necessity for guests unless they are seeking total seclusion.
The Hamlet of Kisla (pronounced Kishla)
Kisla has nothing but a hand of people living off small-holding farms. The village folk are friendly and helpful. It is delightfully peaceful - no sounds but sheep bells, a bird's cry and crickets chirping. There is no shop, no taxi rank, nor bus service, no asphalted road. We do have an open-air bar with breath-taking views which serves beer, cold drinks and the local speciality 'Gozleme' (savoury pancakes). Also a local couple serve meals and drinks (food excellent to order) on their terrace with another stunning view.
Walking, mountain biking and bird-watching are excellent activities for this unspoilt, hilly, forest clad terrain.
June Haimoff is a well known conservationist who, in 1985, initiated a campaign to ensure protection of Dalyan (Izutzu) Beach. This is an important nesting place of the endangered sea turtles - The Caretta-Caretta. David Bellamy, who contributed to the campaign, wrote of June "The Turtles love her, as do we all". Until today, Iztuzu beach remains under the protection of the Turkish Ministry of Environment. No building or developement of any kind is allowed. June speaks Turkish and is happy to advise and assist her guests if they so wish.

6 out of 6 people recommend staying here
The cottage, the host and the location cant be faulted. The cottage sits on the side of a hill looking west down a valley to the sea and spectacular sunsets are almost guaranteed. It is only a 25-minute drive to Dalyan (a beautiful drive, at that) but feels as peaceful and remote as if it is on another planet. For much of the day the only sounds are birds, insects and breezes. Its a challenging walk or drive through the pine forests down to the nearest beach but worth it as you can often get the place to yourself. The main beach of Iztuzu (Turtle Beach) is just a 10-minute drive away.
Its a great hideaway. Facilities within the property, which is full of character, are excellent, right down to a powerful torch for the occasional power cut, and books, guides and maps of the area.
A large bedroom/dining room/kitchen takes up the whole of the top floor. Breakfast on the balcony and barbecues on the patio. And when youre too lazy to cook, there is the Sunset restaurant/bar five minutes away (accessible by road or ladder!) where we had two fantastic meals (sea bream and cheese pie highly recommended) and a few beers in the company of the owners who couldnt do enough for us.
Lastly, a word of thanks to the cottage owner, June. Shes warm, charming, helpful and easy-going. A lovely lady I almost wanted to take her home. Shell make sure everythings alright but give you plenty of space for privacy. And shes led a fascinating life.
Were going back.
This property is ideal for anyone wanting to be away from the main tourist area in a beautiful and unspoilt location. The cottage is relatively small and the facilities fairly basic but that is all part of its charm. The view from the balcony is stunning and the quiet surroundings make it the ideal spot to relax and wind down.
Dalyan is 20 minutes away by car and once you get used to the windy roads the journey is pretty straightforward. Dalyan itself is a great spot with plenty of nice restaurants and bars although the constant touting for business can get a bit tiresome.
Kaptan June came round on the second day to make sure that we had everythjing we needed and was the perfect host. She is a fascinating lady and took the time to share many stories with us then and also later in the week when we shared dinner in her bungalow. June also invited us for breakfast at the nearby Turtle Sanctuary which was a real treat.
All in all this was a great experience and we would recommend it to anyone looking for something a bit different.
We love Kaptans Cottage. A beautiful location with wonderful views and a lovely mature garden. the accoommodation is very simple (one gas burner, slightly erratic water supply) but comfortable bed and just lovely to be there.

WOW!!!!!! We really landed on our feet. Met at the aiprport by the hirecar rep who drove us to Dalaman to pick up our car....(you will need one unless you are happy to stay up in the hills for your holiday. We hoped that we would have a chance to meet the amazing character that is Kaptan June and we did..Not only did she meet us in Dalyan, she already had food ready for us as wed got in a little later than expected and the drive up to the cottage is up a very windy mountain road, which for beginners,...is a little daunting in the dark....So we arrived to the sound of the crickets and ate food and drank cold beer on Junes beautiful terrace overlooking her Mastik tree and the sea. The next morning she invited us to the Turtle Rehab centre for a monthly breakfast that she holds. We met some lovely people there who are big fans of Dalyan and the surrounding area and its people. The cottage itself felt like home straight away, Basic and traditional but very comfortable..how could you ever be disappointed with the view during the day and the milkyway at night. We ate at the sunset REstaurant and climbed up a ladder to get there 9an alternative to walking the long way round) We were shown pictures of the Full moon by Bikir the owner as he has a telescope and although we had missed the full moon by a couple of weeks the photos through the telescope were phenomenal. You are surrounded by wildlife in Dalyan and up in Kisla we soaw tortoises ambling by the roadside, goats, sheep, woodpeckers, kingfishers on the lake. October is a beautiful time of year to go...we often had the beach to ourselves before 10am and even when it got late there was so much space to feel like you were still the only people there......
June made our stay here very special and we intend to return and help her with her never ending journey to preserving this a,mazing place!!
What a wonderfull place to relax and chillout. We spent some gorgeous evenings around the homestead with lovely gardens and views. Some excellent walks around the area and down to the beach ( which was a little steep on the way back up, but good excercise all the same)
We did yoga and meditation under the big tree outside June's cottage every morning which was just blissfull.
The cottage itself affords enough comfort and is cosy with basic cooking facilities. We got the barbie going outside one night with loads of candles for a very romantic evening!!! You'll need a car for this place but its definately worth it for somewhere to escape to. Dalyan is only 20 mins away by car and that place is just beautifull. Thankyou June for your hospitallity.
