Four-bedroomed Villa Vinkara ticks all the boxes for a family-friendly holiday in Turkey. The charming villa is in the sleepy town of Bitez – a 10-minute drive from the bustling capital of Bodrum – on the sweeping southern coast. Thanks to its large outdoor area –surrounded by tall trees and pretty flowers – you'll feel like you're worlds away from any hustle.
If you did want to go exploring, the colour-popping markets, exciting historic sights and pretty harbour in Bodrum await. There's also plenty of opportunities to take part in water sports like scuba diving, snorkelling or sea kayaking at sand-and-smooth-shingle-fringed Bitez Beach. Or, jump on a classic wooden gullet and explore the shore's pristine and secluded coves. When you get back, cooling air conditioning, comfy candy-coloured sofas and bright, welcoming bedrooms await. There are two twin bedrooms and two double bedrooms to choose from – all with en-suite bathrooms.
Outside, the extensive terrace overlooks the private swimming pool making this an excellent villa for large families and friends to while away the afternoons. There's also a stone barbeque, alfresco dining table and modern, fully-equipped kitchen so meal times are a breeze. For picking up fresh local produce and other culinary delights to cook your dinner, you can take a short 250-metre stroll to the nearest supermarket. You can also head to the bazaars in Bodrum. For those evenings you'd like to dine out instead, Bodrum boasts some of the best Turkish restaurants.
So, when you're sunbathing on one of the loungers, dip your toes into the pool or find a quiet spot under the shade of one of the trees. Bitez is a peaceful town on Turkey's southern coast. Although it's only a short 10-minute drive from Bodrum, it feels like it's worlds away. The sleepy town is filled with traditional white-washed houses and boasts a pretty bay that's dotted with fishing boats. You can explore the citrus groves or head to the main beach. Here the shore is lined with soft sands and smooth shingles and is the ideal place to swim or snorkel because of its calm, clear and sheltered waters. You can also take part in watersports like sea kayaking and there are waterfront restaurants for when you get peckish.
There's also an 18-hole golf course nearby, as well as tennis courts dotted around the peninsula. Scuba diver? Whether you're a beginner or a pro, there are plenty of top-notch dive spots to get your teeth stuck into. Wolf's Point is a prime place for spotting stingray and stonefish.
For a livelier atmosphere, you could drive or catch local transport into Bodrum Town. The capital boasts everything from a beautiful marina to colourful markets and exciting historical sites. Visit Bodrum Castle, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus and Museum of Underwater Archaeology – camera in hand. At the latter you can see ancient treasures recovered from sunken ships, and two reconstructed shipwrecks. For shopping, there are markets selling everything from hand-made rugs to leather goods. Look out for fresh golmeze – tasty dough balls. When the sun sets, the city comes alive with live music, and is a great place to watch a sunset.
