Villa overview - owner's description

Four-bedroomed Villa Cankaya has all the holiday favourites – private pool, sandy beach on its doorstep and beautiful views across the sea – and then some. This charming Turkish villa – with its three spacious floors – is the ideal choice for larger groups and families. It's in Bitez, a laid-back town near the bustling capital of Bodrum. Thanks to its own mature gardens – set between a mandarin orchard – it's peaceful and quiet, yet is only a short walk from local shops and top-notch restaurants.

Perhaps the star of the show is the outdoor area. Think swaying palm and olive trees, as well as vibrantly-coloured flowers – all providing privacy. Relax on one of the cushioned sun loungers lining the swimming pool while the kids splash about in the waters or lean up against a tree with your holiday read. With a wall of flora surrounding the villa, you can sunbathe and relax in comfort knowing that you can't be seen from the outside. Oh, and did we mention there's a shaded pergola with cushioned seating underneath it, a barbeque and handy poolside shower, too? You're welcome.

Inside the makes-you-feel-good colour scheme continues. The cream walls and wooden furniture is elegantly contrasted with bright artwork and soft furnishings. The first floor is dedicated to cooking and lounging – say hello to a fully-equipped kitchen, comfy sofa and charming dining table, while the upstairs is home to three of the bedrooms – two twin rooms and a double. The remaining twin room is on the ground floor – perfect for teens wanting extra privacy or those with limited mobility.

When you want to go exploring, Bitez Beach is a short walk away. The curved sand and smooth shingle bay has shallow, sheltered waters and holds Blue Flag Status – making it ideal for relaxing or swimming. You'll also find watersports there and it's fringed by cafes for an afternoon pick-me-up. Bustling Bodrum Town with ancient sites, colourful markets and top-notch food is a 10-minute drive.

Location

The sleepy Turkish town of Bitez is known for its beautiful scenery and laidback charm. Although it's only a 10-minute drive from the vibrant capital of Bodrum, it has a quiet and traditional feel. Think classic white-washed houses and a bay lined with wooden fishing boats. When you're not lazing on Bitez Beach or strolling around the citrus groves, you can stop for lunch at one of the restaurants.

For a livelier scene, Bodrum Town is your go-to. The bustling capital boasts everything from a beautiful marina to colourful markets. It's also a must-visit for history lovers. Not only is it the site of one of the Wonders of the Ancient World – the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus – but it's also home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Here you can see ancient treasures recovered from sunken ships, and two reconstructed shipwrecks – one dating from the Bronze Age.

If you're on the hunt for souvenirs or food for cooking back at the villa instead, the bazaars are a great choice. There you'll find stalls selling everything from hand-made rugs and clothing to fresh produce. When the sun sets, the city comes alive with live music, so it's a great place to be.

For the sports lovers, there's an 18-hole golf course nearby, as well as tennis courts dotted around the peninsula. You'll also find plenty of opportunities to take part in water sports like sea kayaking, scuba diving and parasailing. Wolf's Point – a prime spot for stingray, groupers and stonefish – is just one of the top dive sites or you could hop on a boat tour and Sail along the coast on a gulet cruise.
