Stayed Jul 2015 - Family
We rented villa Uzumlu for 3 weeks as a 3 person family. When we arrived we were greeted by Keith, a wonderful ad very helpful man who showed us around the villa and helped us settle in. The villa was very clean and tidy on arrival and comes with air conditioning at an extra cost of £20 per week, which we were a little disappointed didn't come free considering the cost of the villa and every other villa we have stayed in previous has come with free air conditioning. The villa itself is situated on a hill alongside other villas and overlooks the villages below and the mountains. The views from the villa are very beautiful and at night the stars are clearly visible and we caught sight of shooting stars almost every night- a pleasure we do not get in London! The villa is the last one on that level and has one friendly neighbour on the right hand side, to your left is a road/path leading further up the hill to other villas. The villa itself is in a quiet area and quite private, however as the pool is at the front of the house we found cars and passers by could see into the pool side area, which we would of preferred to be private, we found the fencing around the house could have been higher to give a little more privacy, however it caused no real issues. The pool was kept by a Turkish lady across the road who came every morning (early before we got up) to clean and maintain the pool and plants around the house. We were left a little disappointed with a few things in the house, we found the bed in the master bedroom very uncomfortable and woke many times every night due to the springs digging into us and just a generally uncomfortable mattress. The air con in the room is situated above a high wardrobe which we found blocked the air from cooling the room properly, which was very disappointing, especially as we were paying extra for it, so we often woke up too hot in the night. The second bedroom has 2 single beds and the air con is situated on the wall opposite the beds, as the room is a lot smaller than the master bedroom an the air con is placed in a much better position, this room cooled very quickly and the beds are more comfy too. We were also disappointed that our linen and towels were not changed once during our 3week stay and we had to wash these ourselves, this often became a problem as sometimes if we were out during the day our bedding would not be dry in time for night and we had to wait up for the sheets and towels to dry. We were also only given 4 towels, which were not changed either and if you are using them in the day around the pool area, you were left with dirtied towels for showering with, which was also unpleasant as we ended up having 2 towels for day use and 2 in the night between the 3 of us in order to clean them on rotation. We were also disappointed that we had to provide ourselves with certain household goods, which we felt should come prepared with the villa, things such as toilet paper, washing liquid, washing powder and fabric conditioner, bin liners and cleaning detergents. We had to go out shopping just for these things when really the villa should come with these readily available and have always been provided for with other villas we have stayed in. The villa is in a very safe area and the surrounding neighbours are people who have gone out to turkey to retire or live a quiter and more relaxing lifestyle, which you can certainly achieve if you live in that area. The house is very safe to stay in, with locks on all doors and gates that lock infront of the main doors too. The pool size could have been a little bigger, as it is the smallest out of all the villas around you and there is a lot of concrete space around the house which could have been put to better use. The villa is about a 7minute walk down a hill and into the small town. The town has many newsagents and small shops, however we had to travel about 20minutes by car to the nearest big supermarket so do a proper food shop. Turkey itself is very cheap compared to london, and the restaurants and shops in the village are very cheap. We spent on average £35 per meal for 3 people, including starters, mains, dessert and drink. There are a few nice restuarants in the village, the secret garden, cardiana restuarant, grape garden (our favourite) and wine house. All have very friendly staff who are very welcoming and the food is good!
The village is around a 40minute drive from the beach is fethiye and holiday activities. The villa has brochures of activities to do, we would recommend the camel ride, horse riding through ghost town, paragliding and speed boat hire. It is better if you rent a car though as we did not and found it a little expensive to keep getting transfers into fethiye and the roads are quite steep and rocky in certain areas so walking became very tiresome.
Keith also offers a lift to the supermarket and will either help you with your shop or wait whilst you shop and take you home for 30 lira which is about £7! we found this very helpful and he also showed us around the town and recommended different places to eat and visit. He was extremely helpful the whole holiday and often drove us into town for free to collect dinner when we had take aways etc. We also made use of the bbq but again we had to go out and buy the coal and fuel for it.
Unfortunately the villa does not come with wifi which we also were very disappointed with and thought should be included in the cost. We ended up paying a lot of money for internet use on our phone to research restaurants or directions to places and things to do and also could not check in online properly so Keith took us to a car hire place to use their internet for free and print our boarding passes for departure. All is all we had a very nice holiday in this villa, and although the villa needs some adjustments and certain things included in the cost, we enjoyed our time there very much, although certain things like the linen change which was written in the villa description and not provided, left us disappointed and gave us extra work we didn't really want on a relaxing holiday.
Thank you clinton for allowing us to stay in your villa and having such excellent contacts like Keith and Karen on board to help. Our holiday would not have been as good without them!
