Sitges is an attractive town that started life as a fishing village and, unlike some, has not been spoilt by tourism. Elegant villas line the clean streets leading to the palm lined promenade and the broad, well maintained sandy beach. Renting an apartment or villa in Sitges offers a stylish beach holiday with sophisticated nightlife. This liberal town is family friendly as well as offering a more cosmopolitan holiday destination.
Sitges is not overrun by tourist attractions and is a destination in itself because of its easy going charm, immaculate beaches, art galleries, museums and pretty winding streets. Everything is within walking distance and holiday makers come here to enjoy its seventeen beaches – including gay friendly, family, and nudist beaches – classy shopping and upmarket restaurants. Easy day trips from your Sitges villa or apartment include vineyard tours throughout the Penedès wine region, traversing the great outdoors in the nearby green hills of the Garraf National Park, visiting Roman ruins in Tarragona, and golf clubs aplenty. Barcelona is only 35 kilometres away and at weekends well-heeled Barcelona residents flock to the excellent seafront restaurants in Sitges. The town also hosts a number of festivals throughout the year, the best known of which are the International Film Festival in October and the lavish Mardi Gras celebrations in February.
Sitges has seventeen sandy beaches so you have plenty of choice. All the beaches are family friendly but Platja de la Fragata is a favourite because of its clean sand, space and facilities. Sitges also has a few gay friendly and nudist beaches which are all friendly and unintimidating. Aside from that the popular Port Aventura theme park is only an hour away by train and once there you'll struggle to drag the kids away.
The warmest weather is between March and October averaging over 23 degrees Celsius. Between June and September temperatures peak between 24 and 28 degrees, cooling off to a more moderate 15 to 20 degrees in the evening. But it never gets too hot because of the cool coastal breeze. In the winter months the peak temperatures drop to around 12 to 15 degrees and evenings can be cool although temperatures rarely, if ever, drop below freezing. However Sitges is a proper town and the shops, bars and restaurants are open all year round making this a great out-of-season holiday destination too.
Renting a two bedroom apartment in Sitges for four people typically costs between £700 to £1,500 (€770 to €1,650 at £1 = €1.10) per week in July and August. Our Sitges villas are usually larger, so a four or five bedroom villa with its own private pool will start at around £4,500 (€4,950 at £1 = €1.10) for the week. But these rentals can offer great value as they can sleep up to twenty people and make the perfect place for a large family holiday.
