Javea is a small, old coastal town on the Costa Blanca. The stunning Montgó Mountain and Natural Park provide a breath taking backdrop, as well as plenty of walking and hiking opportunities for nature-lovers. However most visitors choose an apartment or villa in Javea because of its ease of access (it’s a little over an hour’s drive from two international airports, Alicante and Valencia); its old-town charm and its fabulous family-friendly beach.
Renting a villa or apartment in Javea provides an ideal authentic Spanish holiday. The attractive old town dates from the 14th century and doesn't have any high-rise developments. The sandstone buildings, Gothic features and historic food market makes Javea is an ideal destination for a holiday rental. The tourist industry is well nurtured here and you won’t be short of things to keep the family entertained. Activities like golf, horse-riding and water sports are easily accessible as is the nearby beach. A major attraction of renting a holiday villa or apartment in Javea is the wonderful weather: the town's protected position means that it doesn't get too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter. In July and August, the warmest time of the year, temperatures average 26 degrees Celsius with a peak in the day of around 30 degrees. In December and January, the coolest months, temperatures fall to an average of 12 degrees Celsius but can still reach around 17 or 18 degrees during the day.
Playa de Arenal is the main beach in Javea and is ideal for children. The sand slopes gently into the clear blue Mediterranean and the beach is sheltered between two rocky headlands. A lengthy promenade lines the beach with a large range of bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and ice-cream parlours. The port is also worth a visit - it is a lively working fishing port with fresh fish for sale and a real sense of community. But it also caters well for holidaymakers with its waterside restaurants, tapas bars and attractive yacht-filled marina. Javea port hosts the climax of the annual bull-running festival (typically in June); in fact Javea throws a number of boisterous and colourful fiestas throughout the year, but in general is known for having a quieter and more refined nightlife than some other Spanish resorts.
Despite all its attractions Javea offers an affordable holiday. It typically costs around £700 to £900 (€770 to €990 at £1 = €1.10) to rent a two bedroom apartment that sleeps 4 for a week in July or August although places near the beach cost a little more. A villa in Javea with a private pool for the same period starts at around £1,100 (€1,210 at £1 = €1.10) for the week.
