Villa overview - owner's description
meaning Poppy House, faces South and has views over a valley towards the sea. It is a modern, spacious 3 bedroom villa, all on one level, located between the villages of Cajiz and Iznate. It is set in the ‘Campo’, countryside, just 7kms inland. There are olive and almond trees around the house and fruit trees at the bottom of the land. There are good sized outside terraces to the front (which is covered) and the side, which is the best spot to enjoy the sunset whilst sipping a glass of vino. The living area is modern with comfortable sofas, television, Android box which shows Uk television and also some other nationalities channels, Wifi internet, a CD & a DVD player, a wood burning stove, a large dining table and 6 chairs and open-plan fully-fitted kitchen. There are two good sized double bedrooms (one with en-suite) and also one bunkbed room with full size beds. The family bathroom has a full size bath and shower over. We also have a cot, high chair, carry chair, baby bath, walker, and hand-blender... if you require anything else for your little one(s), please ask.
Hiring a car is recommended for you to fully appreciate the area but if you just want a 'get-away-from-it-all' holiday then we can arrange airport transfers with a visit to the supermarket on the way.
Iznate is a traditional white Spanish village set in the Andalucian countryside. It only has 900 inhabitants and is surrounded by olive groves and almond trees. Mules and goats are taken through the village daily and will occasionally be driven on our track to graze along the roadside. The local bars and cafes serve local food and drinks typical to the region. The village is characteristic of the area with narrow and raised streets adorned with flowerpots of geraniums and jasmine. On the outskirts of the village, there is an excellent outdoor swimming pool, with children’s paddling pool, tennis courts, restaurant and bar, toilets and changing facilities.
Iznate is on the ‘Route of the Sun and Avocados’ between the coastal resort of Rincon de la Victoria and Torre del Mar. The village has 2 small supermarkets, 2 banks (unfortunately no cash machine), post office, bread shop, butchers, and fish shop. There are 5 bars, most serving food, with 4 situated around the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento) area.
Venta La Loma, the local bar/restaurant, serves excellent local food and is within walking distance of Casa Amapola.
It is the ideal place to enjoy a peaceful, secluded holiday and yet you are not too far from amenities, places of interest and facilities that offer you the opportunity to have a more adventurous, action packed holiday. The choice is yours…..
Distances and things to do
Casa Amapola is about 35-40 minutes drive from Malaga airport. From the airport the drive is pretty straight forward travelling East along the coast (either on the motorway or the coast road) and then take the Iznate exit which is signposted Cajiz/Iznate. A more detailed map will be provided upon booking.
A similar distance again takes you to Nerja, further East, which is well known for its Blue Flag beaches and excellent restaurants and bars. The coast and Torre del Mar is 10-15 minutes drive away. The town of Torre has many shops and also here you can find a marina and aqua park next to a large shopping mall with hypermarket, cinema, bowling, Burger King, Dunnes department store (Irish owned) and numerous other shops.
Also, there are two 18-hole golf courses that are just 15 minutes drive away.
BEACHES Our favourite beaches are heading West, at Benajarafe (which has many beach cafes and children’s play areas) and at Rincon De La Victoria with its cavelike walkways along the front to get from one beach to another. Also at Rincon, you will find many delightful shops, restaurants and bars. Heading towards Torre you can pull up at any point to enjoy a more secluded spot and maybe take part in some fishing.
RESTAURANTS & BARS There are five bars within Iznate with many of them serving food. They are mainly dotted about the Town Hall area (going into Iznate from the main road it is signposted – approximately the third turning and as you enter the town you pass a planted seating area with exercise equipment).
The restaurant at Venta La Loma is excellent and as in many places the menu comes in English. There are many places to eat in Torre del Mar, i.e. Chinese, Italian, Thai, German and we haven’t come across one bad one yet.
ACTIVITIES and PLACES TO VISIT The list is endless. During your stay you may be tempted to go golfing, scuba diving, horseriding, sailing, walking, wine tasting and even skiing between the months of December and May.
The fishing port and yachting marina of Caleta de Velez has many restaurants that serve excellent seafood. Also, not too far are the resorts of Marbella and Puerto Banus.
For the more adventurous, why not take a day trip to Sierra Nevada, Granada with its magnificent Alhambra Palace, or Seville, Cordoba and Gibraltar which are all manageable in comfort from Iznate.

7 out of 8 people recommend staying here
Access to villa is poor half a mile down unpaved deeply potholed road and then a steep mostly mud track. We were driving an suv but we could not avoid bottoming even at 10 mph. Pool was good but faced north and didn't get sun or warm up until mid afternoon. Patio space was a good with a great view.
One bed was good the other stained and dirty. Ensuite shower and washing machine when in use emitted a terrible smell of sewage, in the other bathroom the bath drain was blocked
All cutlery and crockery was very dirty, obviously put away without washing. the villa was generally grubby and nothing like the upmarket villa portrayed in the pictures. We left the villa early, we had booked 3 weeks, and we left it somewhat cleaner than we found it.
Would we go there again definitely not. Would we recommend it again definitely not.
The place was a huge disappointment
From first contact to the completion of our wonderful holiday the owners were a pleasure to deal with. We were given fantastic directions, and help prior to our stay, and whilst there. It was great knowing they were nearby! Both my daughter and I fell completely in love with their gorgeous dogs! Casa Amapola is just lovely...the house is well-appointed, clean and comfortable. The pool, terraces and outdoor area are fantastic. We went for a restful holiday, and that is just what we had. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend to anyone, and fully intend to re-visit as soon as possible! Thank you so much!
We have just spent 10 fantastic days at Casa Amapola. Several factors really made this property stand out.
First, the location. I hadnt realised it when booking, but it is built in what is primarily cultivated land. This means that there are lots of crops such mango trees and artichokes in the vicinity. The great thing is that these activities never intrude on privacy, but theres always something interesting going on to watch from the balcony. Plus, the house is not surrounded by lots of other holiday villas, but stands on its own. By the way, being high up on a hillside means the views are fantastic.
Second, the different balconies mean you can choose where you want to sit, eat or sunbathe according to how much sun or shade you want, whether you want a view or complete privacy etc. The main balcony with the pool is an absolute suntrap, and we roasted ourselves at a regular 30degC with the occasional dip into the pool to cool off. Bliss.
Owners Rob and Juliet were discreetly attentive, which is exactly what you want from a secluded villa holiday.
In summary, highly recommended.
Lovely spacious villa set in beautiful surroundings, perfect quiet getaway location with sun all day long great swimming pool and terraces.
Villa was very well equipped & the welcome pack, especially the cold beer & wine was appreciated!!
The owners Rob & Juliet made us very welcome & were on hand if required.
We would definitely recommend Casa Amapola & will be returning.

We have now been renting out the villa for 6 years and have never recevied a complaint, in fact glowng reports on how great a time they have had. We have been together for 20 years, and married 10 and after looking around for a while for a holiday home to buy for ourselves, decided on Iznate which is an ideal place to enjoy a relaxed holiday and come back again and again, because there is never enough time to explore and enjoy the views, the towns, beaches, etc.
