The beach at La Azohia is gently shelving with shallow, warm waters & a beautiful new palm-lined promenade stretching two miles ensuring a memorable evening stroll along the sea front as the sun sets across the bay. Much prized by the Spanish the sea here is considered amongst the clearest in Spain & has been granted blue flag status for many years with the deeper waters at Cabo Tinoso known by divers far & wide for their colourful sea beds & by the local fishermen who still bring in their daily tuna catches to the quaint marina.
The Costa Calida is a fairly undiscovered part of south-east Spain. La Azohia is a totally unspoilt idyllic Spanish fishing village on the Costa Calida. It lies at the sheltered end of the large Mazarron bay, just 10 minutes drive away from Mazarron with its wealth of shops, restaurants, and a wonderful large sandy beach. It is 20 minutes drive away from the large town of Cartagena, where Hannibal landed with his elephants. There are no organised tour operators here, and even in the height of the season you will be able to find virtually empty beaches in La Azohia and around the bay of Mazarron. The beaches in this area of the Costa Calida are fantastic - plenty of large, fine sandy beaches (including a number of blue flag beaches) for the perfect beach holiday.
Rest, relax … there is almost no pace of life here. For the more energetic, there is swimming, windsurfing, diving at all levels .La Azohia is a very well-known place for diving, sailing, boat cruises, golf, biking, river rafting, tennis, trekking.
Puerto de Mazarron
Just a short drive away is Puerto de Mazarron, with many bars, restaurants, super markets, banks, a children’s play ride which looks lovely lit up in the evening.
Further along the main road is also a small fair and local stalls which are opened in the evening.
The port of Mazarron has a Sunday Market, this is lovely, it has so much local flavour just like old Spain.
The Beach at Mazarron is beautiful, very large and flat and sandy with children’s park and swings, also lots of restaurants and bars, and if you like bowls there is a lovely club there which you can go in as guest.
For the golfers there are lots of places to go, there are three new 18 hole clubs between Cartagena and San Javier airport.
There is a 9 hole course at Campersol 20mins away the other side of Mazarron town.
Cartagena is about 20 minutes away and has some lovely shops, but the old town and port are worth the visit and it has very interesting and well conserved archaeological rest from Romans, fenicios and Carthaginians. The food is fantastic, and its people pleasant. Summer here it’s fantastic, but there is no word to describe how marvellous it is to spend you winter time here with no noise and an average temperature of 10-20 ºC
The Costa Calida and local climate around La Azohia puts claim to no less than 300 days of sunshine a year. Check for availability and book your stay on-line. Please note it is a no smoking apartment that pets are not allowed.
Due to economics the minimum booking of the apartment is 1 week
Payment in Stirling or euro's can be made by credit card or debit card via our our agents Clickstay, this is for your security and ours.
There are 4 dive schools in the immediate vicinity and the diving is reputed to be the 5th best in the world
A round of golf can be had within a 30-minute drive.
The Sierra Espuna is a beautiful national park. This is lovely days outing by car taking in stunning views and stopping at a restaurant for lunchtime “Del Dia “
Cartagena is only 20 mins away with history and shopping.

Well Equipped Apartment with Stunning Views
What a fabulous view from the roof terrace and almost every window in the house! I have stayed at the San Gines twice before but this is the best place by far. So well equipped, with amazing views from the solarium and the bikes, beach chairs and cool box were a welcome bonus. Communication with Robert was quick and easy and arrival and departure made so much simpler with the key box. I worried about not having a contact in resort but nothing went wrong and there was no need to contact Robert for anything once we got there, we just unpacked and lived like a local for 10 days.
La Azohia is a lovely little fishing village like Spain used to be many moons ago. Plenty of places to eat, our favourite was Bellavista, delicious food at very reasonable prices and always a warm welcome. There's a good sized Coviran in the neighbouring Isla Plana, only 5 mins by car or a 15 minute cycle along a lovely coastal route.
The apartment was spacious, great water pressure in the huge shower and the beds were so comfy. We would've preferred a double (king size) but just moved the drawers and pushed the twins together (at least I got to keep all my own covers this way!). Only a 10 minute walk from a lovely beach with crystal clear water and a lovely promenade walk to the Aussie Bar at the harbour, well worth the 20 minutes to see the view across the water to Puerto Mazarron.
We had wifi and English channels on the TV which was a bonus too.
I can definitely recommend The Escape to anyone wanting a quiet, away from it all, out-of-season holiday with plenty of amenities just a short walk away. We will be back :-)

very pleasant stay. The apartment was ideally located and very well equipped. The area was very quiet and peaceful. However because of the time of year a lot of the bars and restaurants were closed which we should of expected as it is a less commercialized area. We had a car though, which is a must, so it didn't spoil the holiday too much.
This was our first stay in apartment and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The apartment was like a home from home and really comfortable. We loved the area and hope to go back again. We drove down and having our car was certainly an advantage.
Brilliant apartment even better than we expected having read reviews; Rob replied promptly to the one or two questions I emailed him. Welcome bottle of wine on arrival was a nice touch, it was spotlessly clean and great value for money. The only "negative" (it's a personal thing so obviously no reflection on the apartment) is that the break confirmed that we just don't like Spain very much, we normally holiday in Greece and just don't get the same "feel" in Spain. If we could uproot the apartment and relocate it in a small coastal village in Zakynthos (for example) we'd be booking it twice a year!
Having said that if Spain is your thing then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Escape very highly.
very nice place with even better seaview than in the pictures. Heating worked great and so did everything else. Good beds and quiet. Wonderful Wifi that even worked on the roof terraze.
On arrival the shutters to the lounge window and patio doors would not work, but the problem was overcome eventually. Also found that toilet had been used but not flushed-not a major issue but still not something you want to find.On day three my wife took it upon herself to squeegee excess water from the roof terrace left by the automatic watering system and the tubular metal handle split and cut her hand quite badly.Could not access internet-no response from organisation handling its security.Despite these niggling issues we loved the area and the apartment--- we just thought we were unlucky to have everything happen at once and that the apartment needs a bit of TLC.

We are now both retired and have only this apartment to enjoy, we have furnished it for our own comfort and keep it up to a very good standard. It is in the very best position on the urbanization with views second to none.
I was with BT for 23 years and now work part time for the ambulance service. Angela was with the library service and now does part time admin work at home via the P C.
