Apartment overview - owner's description

This fabulous apartment has a large sunny terrace facing south west and free Wi-fi. The apartment is fully air-conditioned has two bedrooms a large master bedroom which is ensuite and has a full bath and a twin room with a second bathroom with a shower. The lounge diner is light and airy and is furnished to a very high standard. There is a large sofa with a recliner and a plasma tv . The internet tv system means you can have international programmes with movies and sports, There is free Wi-fi in the apartment to keep communicated. The dining area has a contemporary table and funky chairs and the colour scheme is uplifting.
The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing snacks, drinks and meals. There is a microwave, dishwasher, hob , fridge freezer and there is a utility room with a washing machine for your use.
The terrace has a lovely seating area for dining and a sunlounger to relax and sunbathe in private as it is not overlooked. There is a large pool and a small kiddies pool with sunloungers for your use.

The apartment is walking distance to shops, bar and restaurants and a stroll to the beach. There is a local bus service nearby although a car does make life easier if planning on lots of shopping or sightseeing.
The apartment is 25 minutes away from Malaga airport and only 10 minutes from Fuengirola and 5 minutes from La Cala de Mijas. There are lots of restaurants to choose from , seafood, spanish, Indian , Thai nearby. For those of you who wish to shop the Miramar centre in Fuengirola with provide all your needs with shops, bars , restaurants and a cinema with movies in English.
There is a water park nearby and our agents can arrange tickets for you. They can also arrange trips to Gibraltar, Tangiers , Granada etc.
There are several golf courses only minutes away and tee times can be booked in advance or locally. The beach is not overcrowded and they are beach bars with sunbeds called chiringuitos which also serve local fish and refreshing drinks all day.

The apartment is nice, modern, spacious. We found it generally clean, apart of the plates, cups, glasses and cuttlery which was filthy - looks like they haven't been washed in hot water for ages.

Location wise - you need a car. The description says there is no parking but there is loads of space for parking a car securely.

My main problem is with the management company Lets in the Sun based in La Cala de Mijas. Their services are very poor. If I was the apartment owner, I would immediatelly move it to a different management company.

It started with the reservation. Clickstay's T&Cs clearly state that we are not allowed to make any payments directly to the owner/manager of the apartment. All payments must be made via Clickstay. Lets in the Sun gave us confusing and incomplete instructions and asked for the payment. They didn't specify how to make the payment and gave us an incorrect phone number when we enquired about it. I asked if we could pay online or via Paypal for security and buyer protection reasons. I was told this was not possible. I checked with Clickstay and was advised to pay via phone since Lets in the Sun are their old client. So I called a number I was emailed and gave the lady the debit card details. I am not paranoid, my company processes online payments and therefore I know how giving card details to an unknown individual over the phone is risky. I just hope the piece of paper with my card details are not just left on a desk in their office in full view of people who walk in.

We got the detailed instructions about picking up the keys and getting to the apartment. It was late night when we arrived. I opened box A with the provided code to find it empty. I had to call the emergency number to be told "Sorry there is an issue with box A, we left the key in box B". Why they didn't email/text/call me about it?

I was told there was parking in the garage and to use the remote key to open it - this didn't work, the remote wouldn't open the gate. Doesn't matter, there was plenty of parking space around the building.

The apartment is advertised as "SPEELPS 6". There is a double bed, 2 single beds, and a double sofa bed. We booked it for 5 persons. When we arrived to the apartment we found the bedding only for 4 persons. This is VERY annoying when you have 3 small children, tired from a journej at midnight.

Yes we could call the emergency number but this was not practical given the circumstances. Total failure on their side.

The apartment comes with the lovel salt water pool, as advertised on the website. However, you do not get the key to the pool area so you rely on people from other apartments to let you in and out, or you can jump over the fence.

We had to chase them for the return of security deposit (200 EUR). It feels like they were hoping we'd forget about it.

To sum it up, the apartment is nice, location good (if you accept to be far from everything and have a car), but the management company Lets in the Sun is not doing their job properly.

We very much regret having accepted your booking , you paid €57.10 for this bookings and were nothing but trouble from start to finish. Your refusal to pay your deposit despite emails and phone calls with very clear instructions was the first sign of trouble. Your phone was turned off when you were travelling making communication difficult. The issues you mention were not communicated to us although you state you had the emergency number and also knew where the office was, otherwise we would have explained to you where the linen was in the wardrobe and the pool key and remote were both working perfectly before your arrival. The sofa was badly stained and the owner had to have it steam cleaned after your use. He had asked us to hold the deposit as they were checking for more damages, in the end he agreed to cover the cost of cleaning the sofa himself. I would have thought for a special offer and various discounts to get a quality apartment for €57 for a holiday you would have been more pleasant to deal with instead of managing to be rude to every member of staff you dealt with. We will not be accepting any more bookings from you in the future.

Unfortunately this apartment is NOT one I would recommend to friends & family. LaCala Mijas is a great holiday location and we visit the area a lot - we were only renting because our own apartment in LaCala Hills was being used by family. Unfortunately for us, this apartment did not come close to the standards we set for own apartment or those we would ordinarily expect to see where ever we holiday around Europe. The directions to the apartment assume one route only and are inaccurate - arriving after midnight, it took us 2 hours to find the place! And when we eventually arrived, we were shocked to see that the kitchen, hallway and bathroom were infested with ants and other insects, the garbage had not been emptied, the flimsy shower curtains were badly stained and the floor had clearly not been properly cleaned - it was sticky, dirty and dusty. The agents did a good job leaving the keys out for us and subsequently getting their cleaners in PDQ to clean the place post-complaint, but we had to deal with the insects ourselves - $80 Euros worth of ant repellent later! Such a pity because the apartment block is well located; although it could be better equipped and serviced. The other failure is the agents policy of charging for so-called extras that should be included as standard (they are at my apartment and elsewhere) - i.e. beach towels, late checkout (even though no new guests are expected on the checkout day!) and so forth - very off-putting. We did try to contact the owner re: all of the above but apparently he/she is based in Canada and could not be contacted. Ultimately, we did not let it spoil our stay in LaCala Mijas but I would not recommend the apartment and I would advise the agents to review some of their policies in a market that is all about value-for-money and being seen to go the extra mile on customer service.

I am sorry you encountered some difficulties in finding the property, we provide directions upon booking confirmation and never had this problem reported before and we will look at the directions and make them more accurate. The shower curtains have now been replaced with new ones. I am very sorry that there were insects in the property when you arrived, we did send the cleaners to help you with this issue. The late check out and extra towels fee is stated on arrival and are not compulsory extras. Regards

The apartment was really clean and well furnished, it actually looked like it hadnt been used before. The space was amazing, just what we needed with a little one running around. The apartment was very quiet, although this might have been due to the fact that not all of the apartments in the block were occupied. The apartment is a little bit out of the way (though only a 10 minute walk to the main road and bus service) but as we always hire a car whilst on holiday it was fine for us. Lauren (the member of staff we communicated with while organising the rental) was great. She let us know that the fair was in town while we were there and that the Monday was a bank holiday so to take plenty of nappies and food for the little one. Information that we greatly appreciated. We would definitely return to this property in the future.
